Rumor: Frontlines canceled on PS3
Kaos' upcoming multiplatform FPS may be dropping the PS3 version. The title was originally planned for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 release. However, the PS3 version has mysteriously vanished from retailer databases. Comments from moderators do little to quell the fear that the PS3 version has been quietly axed. An official comment from THQ is yet unavailable, but we wouldn't be surprised if the game was either canceled altogether, or significantly delayed. Once again, could this be yet another title that has fallen by the wayside due to the PS3's uniquely difficult architecture? And more importantly, do any PS3 fans care about the loss of this FPS, in light of upcoming releases, such as Haze and Resistance 2?

I don't think too many of us cared about Frontlines, but this seems like furthur proof that Ken Foreman made this thing too damn complicated.
evilJaze @ Jan 21st 2008 3:47PM
If you read on, there's evidence that it is just being delayed.
Emophia @ Jan 21st 2008 3:48PM
*Sigh*
How depressing...
Did I buy teh wrong console?
matthew_neitzer @ Jan 21st 2008 3:56PM
Well, I wouldn't have planned on buying this, but Resistance 2, that is a game I am looking forward to.
Arno @ Jan 21st 2008 3:59PM
I don't think you guys will be missing out on much.
Waldex @ Jan 21st 2008 4:39PM
Perahps Crysis, there has been a masive rumor the past days, i still cant tell why PS3Fanboy did not reported it, and the other places did do it
Anyway, if by some miracle we indeed get Crysis and the stupid xbots dont, then who cares about an inferior game as frontlines
deaftly @ Jan 21st 2008 5:29PM
i can tell you're the creative one in your family because you said "xbots"
Haiddasalami @ Jan 21st 2008 4:57PM
Weird having your game design teacher involved in the development of frontline. I was hyped for this game but if its out for pc, I can get it. With Haze coming out, I think Ill choose haze over frontlines
doc j @ Jan 21st 2008 5:05PM
Whoa. I'd never heard of Frontlines until just now. Sad excuse for a fanboy I am. Anyway, I am not specifically sad that the PS3 will not be getting Frontlines, but I have to be honest and say that games being cancelled/indefinitely delayed for your console cannot really be a good thing.
At least the real big hitters for later this year are more or less guaranteed to exist at least at some point. (LBP, Resistance 2, MGS4, Killzone2 etc. etc.) With those titles, I doubt many people will really be missing Frontlines.
Dahk @ Jan 21st 2008 5:11PM
Like everyone else, I'm not exactly moved by this event (even though this was like a week old =P). But eh, I guess it's still another loss for the PS3 which implies that developers still don't view the PS3 as a machine worth developing for.
Still from a consumer's standpoint, I rather get Haze =).
Organic_Shadow @ Jan 21st 2008 5:28PM
The fact that is has drivable/useable vehicles and RFOM2(as of yet) has no vehicles, and Haze seems to have limited vehicle use, the loss of Frontlines seems pretty crappy to me.
I guess UT3 and Warhawk are the only types of games like that we get to play for a while. Frontlines seemed to actually be doing new things with the sandbox+war+vehicles+online genre, and I have no money for a PC overhaul.
Carlton @ Jan 22nd 2008 5:14AM
Resistance 2 and Haze have both land and air vehicles available in single and multiplayer, the difference being that R2 and Haze are from highly acclaimed developers with an excellent track record, whereas Frontlines is from a bunch of noobs.
That doesn't mean it won't be good, but I'd be interested to know what "new things" the game is doing. To me it just looks like a generic Battlefield clone.
It'll have to get some pretty spectacular reviews before I consider parting with any cash for it (on PC). The previews I've seen for it weren't exactly glowing.
heckteck @ Jan 21st 2008 5:38PM
i played the demo on my 360.....it really didn't grab me so i'd say we are not missing anything if this does get canceled......plus i'm getting tired of all these FPS's dammit we need more RPG's....starting now dammit
MetalgearV2 @ Jan 21st 2008 5:47PM
I played the demo that was release a little while back, in short it wasnt great..hell is was pretty awful. the new battlefield and haze is out in march so losing this game shouldnt be on anyone's radar.
mike @ Jan 21st 2008 6:30PM
Well that would explain why the demo was only available on the Xbox 360 Marketplace.
Austin @ Jan 21st 2008 7:18PM
it's not cancelled just delayed
gooftroop @ Jan 22nd 2008 7:59AM
been playing multiplayer of this for months (pc version) - suffice to say I wont be getting it on any format as it just wasnt special enough to get me really excited about it/want to play it
Leobebes @ Jan 21st 2008 8:14PM
How did Haze end up becoming a PS3 exclusive, since it's from Ubisoft?
Microdot @ Jan 21st 2008 8:34PM
they were unable to make the game work on the 360... disc constraints, processor, etc.
that should adequately fan the flames of war.
Jason @ Jan 21st 2008 9:02PM
another FPS >.>
like heckteck said, we need more rpgs
getting sick of FPS-es
Miz3ry @ Jan 21st 2008 8:42PM
I got a call on Friday from the Gamestop automated service telling me the PS3 version of Frontlines was cancelled by the developer.
Waldex @ Jan 21st 2008 9:19PM
CHECK THIS OUT.... DAMN WHY DOES THIS SITE DO NOT UPDATE THE NEWS LIKE IT SHOULD???

mmm people... go and check the PSU, Frontlines was NOT cancelled only delayed, they got official response from the Development team, go and see it for yourselves
rob @ Jan 21st 2008 11:33PM
I really don't care about this game. And I think a lot of people don't. There are just way too many other choices out there.
Consolcwby @ Jan 22nd 2008 12:51AM
I remember hearing about this game, I believe it was a rather generic shooter, but I could be mistaken... No biggie if it was canceled or delayed. With PS3 exclusives coming this year, it may get crowded for these multiplatform generic shooters. Maybe it already is...
Efeez1986 @ Jan 22nd 2008 2:13AM
Who cares about Frontlines? It looks like a generic ass shooter. I'm tired of shooters, after i get Haze and Killzone 2 i'm done with shooters.
deafraiders @ Jan 22nd 2008 6:09AM
Haze and R2 all the way i wouldn't care how many FPS we currently have. Enough to keep us going throughout the year with COD4, the best FPS PS3 game made to date.
Furry_Monkey @ Jan 22nd 2008 8:04AM
*'My dad is a developer for the company making Frontlines and he said that it's coming out a little late, but will be the best FPS for online multiplayer battles ever made.'
*This is a lie.
PS3 pink clan killer @ Jan 22nd 2008 8:16AM
I was actually thinking about getting this game on the PS3. If it is delayed I will just get it later.
Lard @ Jan 22nd 2008 4:32PM
A fps not coming to PS3?
I'll live.
More RPGs please!
bamf @ Jan 22nd 2008 7:42PM
the developer have already said that the game is coming to PS3, its just been delayed.
