FCC filing for PS3 updated with white model

Sony may be planning to release a white version of its 40GB PS3 system in America soon, according to updated photos presented to the FCC. The photos submitted showcase a very sleek looking white system from a variety of angles. As is typical for the 40GB model, it appears it only has two USB ports in front, and no memory card readers. This listing doesn't necessarily mean the white system is confirmed, but it does make it much more likely that PS3 shoppers will get a new color option in the future.

A SCEA rep responded: "As you may know, there are many FCC filings like this each year. We haven't made any announcements about upcoming PS3 plans, but are comfortable with our current two sku strategy. We are continually evaluating the market trends and consumer input to determine the appropriate PS3 models for our territory. "

I still like the black one better, maybe if it was a glossy white like the black one and had chrome to accent it, I'd totally buy one, but since it looks flat white, and doesn't have chrome it looks ugly

Okay, I just looked at the pictures and it is glossy, and it seems to have a gray (grey) color to accent the white, but chrome would be better like the one that was on ebay for $1600. I'd buy a chrome one, but not with that gre(a)y.

I'm sure some of you are like why not just keep the black one? well to answer that, i'm one of those mindless guys that buy new stuff just because it's new.

Any chance of having a little shake with this new white system, hm? A little rumble in the box, hm? A little rattle with the gameplay, hm? Some trembling perhaps, hm? A shiver, hm? A quiver, hm? A shudder, hm?

If you're not following me...is there a dual shock 3 controller with this system? Which is basically what I was asking in a Family Guy like manner. If so that would be great.

Eeek! This system is just too white. I mean, it's like an albino type of white. I can imagine not even being able to see this thing in an all white room. I'm sorry, but it's just too darned white.

Now, if it had some black or chrome to break it up, fine, but right now... it just looks like an inexpensive and ugly toy. =(

Really?? It must be a Japanese system. I would imagine they imported it, like absolutely everything else in that mall. Either way, ill prolly swing by there (i havent been there since i bought a dvd burner years ago lol) and check it out. Hey do they still have that bomb ass water massage table thingy? Every time i go, i have to stop and get a water massage...lol

I personally prefer my black one. It looks so much more sleek, I just dont think that white is really that great of a color choice for the ps3. If what they say is true, then black is a slimming color. The ps3 is by no means a small slim machine. The white probably makes it look a lot bigger to the human eye. Besides, if you are forking out the money for a white one, then you will probably want controllers and other accessories to match. While this is fairly easy for controllers, other accessories such as headsets, and cords and other things will probably be harder to find. Just seems kind of pointless to me...

I hate the chrome on the ps3 (or the 360) so this would be very, very tempting. If I could mod my ps3 so as to not void the warranty, I'd do that instead.

I love the black much better, but this is good news and IF this has any correlation to the rumored price drop of the 40GB PS3 to $299...Sony is in for an extra-great year. (As if the game line-up didn't ensure this already)

I have a white DS3 and I love it. But I don't think I want a white PS3, although my friend who has seen one says it looks great.

It DEFINITELY should come with a DS3.

It's great. To be honest, I don't value rumble all that much anyway though, I just don't seem to feel it a lot of the time. I thought I had it turned off on my 360 for a long time, but I just wasn't noticing it.

But the controller works well. Good battery life and the rumble seems good when I notice it, much like the DS2 rumble. I've played Uncharted, Motorstorm and lots of PS2 games with the DS3.

The sticks click to easy on my DS3, at least easier than I would like. Otherwise, I love it and think it should be the standard one.

I personally can't wait for it. I have been on the fence about importing one but I could wait a little bit if it was to be confirmed before summer or so.

Question: Can PS3's talk to each other? I have a black 60gb already and I want to have another in my bedroom (the white one). Will they network with each other? Regular files are not that important because I can just stream them from mac, but I am mainly concerned with game saves. Can I import a game save from one to the other for each playing session? How about downloaded games off of PSN? Can I even have the same PSN account shared across two playstations?

hmm yes but mostly no... obviously you can't copy PSN stuff but a savegame isn't a problem. and it does LAN games like warhawk.. still you do need 2 copies to play.

You can't just copy PSN games, but once you've paid for them you can download them to 5 different PS3's (at least I think it's 5 - it's definitely more than 1). That excludes stuff like Warhawk or Tekken, though.

Looks like it has the same chrome accents as the black PS3. Maybe its just bad lighting and therefore not reflecting the light properly. The faceplate is already shining much more than the white paint on the rest of the PS3 in the shot above. I would think that they would use the same accents for both colors to make it more cost-effective.

Ahh, so you guys are finally going to get a white PS3 eh? I have the exact same model and I love it much more than the typical black.

Why?

For starters, everyone's got a black PS3. I'm the only one with a white model! Secondly, it's not a huge fingerprint magnet like the black one. You still get the fingerprints, but it's not as conspicuous.

Why are people complaining about it possibly not having chrome? Is a strip of shiny reflective material that special? Also if its anything like the white PS3 out in other regions then yes it does have the same chrome bits...

the white one would just stick out to much......

I hope the white console has a matte finish...to match the dualshock 3 controllers I already picked.

You don't want shiny white; the matter finish is very nice, if you haven't seen it before.

In response to someone asking whether this white 40 gb PS3 will come with a DS 3, the answer is no. Having looked at the instruction manual Sony provided the FCC, it appears that Sony is being a bunch of stupid f***s and not including the DS3 in the box. They really need to phase the sixaxis out IMMEDIATELY and start bundling in the DS3.
