Haze gets delayed again, moves to '08-'09 release
Doesn't this sound familiar? The oft-delayed Haze allows us to almost copy-paste a story we ran last year.
Looks like the somewhat-exclusive PS3 shooter Haze is delayed again. According to a statement by Ubisoft today, they revealed that the game will arriveQ4 of their fiscal calendar some time during their 2008-2009 fiscal year. Ubisoft fans can look forward to Rainbow Six Vegas 2 and Lost instead.
We haven't seen much of Free Radical's shooter in the past few months, which has us wondering what's going on with the game. While we're assuming the game will still release this year (the next fiscal year begins in April), we're certain that many PS3 fans are quite upset to hear this news.

Well, I didn't see this coming honestly. Usually something delayed and disputed about release as Haze doesn't fall into this. It didn't look that good to begin with, so at least this lessens the chance of failure. The other side is that it's now facing Killzone 2 and Resistance 2, so even if they fix whatever problems or tweak the gameplay, FPS games will have higher standards.
erx3 @ Jan 23rd 2008 2:02PM
Good point Dorito.
With all of the PS3 game delays, it makes me wonder if developers are figuring out better ways to utilize the PS3 everyday and realizing that they can make a game that much better with their newfound understanding.
wocyob @ Jan 23rd 2008 1:38PM
wow just wow
yea i am pretty upset i really wanted to play this game this year
well if there making the game better then why not i guess
dragonric @ Jan 23rd 2008 2:33PM
Why not?? They're not making it better dude.. they're just delaying it because they developers want to work on the other two games instead. That's not making it better.. that's just delaying the product.. period!
wocyob @ Jan 23rd 2008 2:45PM
man thats just lame then lol
Justin @ Jan 23rd 2008 1:44PM
Wow. No comment.
Free radical? Sony? What are you guys doing?
:(
davey @ Jan 23rd 2008 1:44PM
I'm getting a bit annoyed at this. If this game had came out when it was originally supposed to i would have bought it but with all the other great games coming out, i don't think i will. I don't understand how they could get the release date so wrong....
mberkowitz @ Jan 23rd 2008 1:50PM
Dammit! This was supposed to hold me over until GTAIV cameout. Hopefully I won't be burned out with Burnout paradise
Dan @ Jan 23rd 2008 1:50PM
After all these delays I'll probably now give this one a miss if it ever comes out.
watcher @ Jan 23rd 2008 1:54PM
Free Radical needs to speak to Insomniac if they're having programming trouble. This game won't survive another delay. This is a 1st year title that's supposed to compete with third year titles like God of War 3 in 2009? Good luck.
Carlton @ Jan 23rd 2008 2:24PM
Haze will be out this year, GoW3 won't be out 'til xmas '09.
gunman00 @ Jan 23rd 2008 1:57PM
All i'm gonna say is this game better be Game of the Year material, i so over it, i cant put it in words. I will definitaly no pick this one up and instead im will go with battlefield Bad company, or even Frontlines. Forget this game!
Carlton @ Jan 23rd 2008 2:28PM
Battlefield: Bad Company!?! Frontlines!?!
Just wait for Haze, dude. Or at least something better than those two.
dragonric @ Jan 23rd 2008 2:33PM
I'll say it again.. it's NOT to improve on what they've done so far.. read the article guyz.. it's to work on the OTHER ones instead!! They're not delaying it to make it better.. they're delaying it so they can get the other games out instead.. The Rainbow 2 and Lost are multi-plats.. they're thinking about the XBOX360Fanboys FIRST instead of the PS3Fanboys.
Matt @ Jan 23rd 2008 2:01PM
I had a feeling it was going to get delayed again. Amazon.co.uk has had the release date of 30 December 2008 for weeks.
Aaron @ Jan 23rd 2008 2:04PM
I dont get why people get all upset? Who cares if it's delayed. It will be a better product because of it. Plus there are a bunch of awesome games released for the PS3 this year anyway :)
miglaugh @ Jan 23rd 2008 6:34PM
Again like the one dude keeps saying, they're putting the game on the back burner to finish the multiplatform titles that they are also working on.
Erick @ Jan 23rd 2008 2:05PM
This is BS. I was looking forward to this game so much for December, then as my birthday present in January, then I could hold off until March. The only way this delay will be worthwhile is if they leave in all of the political content. I'm about to be too pissed if I come to find out that they dumbed it down for the casual crowd.
Organic_Shadow @ Jan 23rd 2008 2:08PM
Quit being so dramatic, bloggers. I highly doubt it's pushed as far back as 2009. A realistic estimate? APRIL.
WOW. That's wasn't hard was it. Here's another: MAY. Wow. See what I did there? I named two months that are not only both in the 2008-2009 fiscal calendar, but also aren't over exaggerative and dramatic.
dragonric @ Jan 23rd 2008 2:52PM
Not being dramatic or exaggerative.. just being mad! Read the article.. Q4 is lined-out to indicate that no it won't be in this year at all. 2008-2009 means next year dude. If they're delaying the game simply because they want to work on the other two games instead, two multi-platform games.. instead of an exclusive title (to boost sales of the PS3), then it's just not acceptable. We fanboys are tired of hearing of delays.. but most of the time it's to make games better.. this one title, one that has been one of the most anticipated for the PS3, is being delayed because they want to work on the other two titles. If you think this is drama or an exaggeration, then don't believe me.. read the article again. Go to Ubisoft and ask them.. multi-plats sell more games, why because there's more consoles.. Haze is a exclusive.. only for us PS3fanboys.. and why not get upset.. XBox360's getting their exclusives where's ours? Wait up Shadow.
dragonric @ Jan 23rd 2008 3:26PM
Just looked up the two Ubisoft games Rainbow 2 and Lost.. wtf? They both have release dates in Feb 08?!?! Why then is Haze being delayed till almost, if not, next year??
theone @ Jan 23rd 2008 2:08PM
geez...
I think I'm gonna start calling the console 'delaystation'
although it's not really the console's fault.....
Why do all good ps3 games get delayed anyway? Hard to create or something??
ninxf @ Jan 23rd 2008 2:20PM
XBox360 fanboys from mid 2007 called and they want their "Delaystation" joke back.
deaftly @ Jan 23rd 2008 2:33PM
almost as funny as the RROD jokes, creativity ftw.
Ruben @ Jan 23rd 2008 4:15PM
I would consider you original if you had said this in 2006.
stalyon @ Jan 23rd 2008 2:13PM
Duke Nu...HAZE FOREVER!
dragonric @ Jan 23rd 2008 2:14PM
This is SO typical of Ubisoft, tho I agree with Dorito876, I didn't see this coming at all. But come on, you know why this is, don't you? Because RB6:V 2 & Lost will be multi-plats.. and they will (as usual) f'g program the games for the 360 and then port it to the PS3.. I am aggravated beyond limits this time. I have been really wanting this game, and now due this ridiculous delays I just may take it off my want list altogether for spite. Dammit, why can't you (Ubisoft) simply finish Haze and then work on the others.. I think the fans of the PS3 are more interesting in Haze right now, and I'm sure I speak for a lot of PS3Fanboys that this is unacceptable. You've had a great deal of time, you've given us (ridiculously-several release dates) and now you want to delay it near another year?? Come Ubisoft get serious about your promises. We only found recently that Rainbow would have a sequel.. but Haze has been waited for a lot longer time.
Musouka @ Jan 23rd 2008 10:27PM
Get your facts straight, godd*mnit!
Ubisoft only publish games. They simply get a finished game, arrange for it to be put in DVDs, send around shops, and arrange advertisements.
Free Radical are the developers. They make games, and only one game at a time. They are the delaying party.
People who played the current builds of Haze just said how mediocre the game is, and Free Radical started fixing it up, while pondering on what to add. They are literally squashed by Resistance2 and Killzone2, in both timing and features. So, I can bet they'll be concentrating on the x360 version of their engine, as 2008 looks like a desert for that console. There 10 million xbots will simply buy Haze out of boredom. It's like taking candy from a baby.
WaSSaBi @ Jan 23rd 2008 2:21PM
shiet... if you inject Nectar into a PS3 controller, it rumbles... if you inject nectar into a PS3, the price falls... maybe, if they injected nectar into the developers... they can get this game out on time?
Ruben @ Jan 23rd 2008 4:16PM
Nice!
chiemmy @ Jan 23rd 2008 2:36PM
he dude.. the game is not being developed my ubisoft....only being published by them. free radical is the developer of the game and i think they are trying to make it better. but i really dont understand why ubisoft will let them delay it if its not far away from great
dragonric @ Jan 24th 2008 2:05AM
Ah.. yeah.. Ubisoft is the publisher, and Free Radical is a Ubisoft company, they are the developer.. but it's UBISOFT that's putting the delay on the game, NOT the developer. Ubisoft is taking the developers off the Haze project to work on Rainbow 2 and Lost (don't know why this would be the reason for such a drastic delay tho)...
chris ciancanelli @ Jan 23rd 2008 2:40PM
not surprising since they are a bunch of former Rare developers who, before Bungie, were the kings of delays
Vincent @ Jan 23rd 2008 2:52PM
PMBOK says Hello to Ubisoft.
stalyon @ Feb 15th 2008 12:29PM
Exactly. They needs some real PMPs. I'm available.
MCX @ Jan 23rd 2008 2:55PM
I think that after COD4 the bar has been changed. We all know how good a game can be. Don't mind waiting for a good product.
Zeus the God @ Jan 23rd 2008 3:04PM
i think they just missed the window to launch this game because just think about what the game looks like right now. in comparison with almost every game coming out this year its nothing less than lack luster the ideas gamplay sounds great but visually i dont think it will hold up with the holy trinity of great video games of now-gen consoles(graphics, gamplay and story.
Steven @ Jan 23rd 2008 3:06PM
This is getting delayed as if it were a Nintendo of Final Fantasy game! But as those two always provide, hopefully it results in a superior experience after the wait!
mike @ Jan 23rd 2008 3:08PM
Probably development issues. Seems like no one can make a game on PS3 without porting.
It's ashame, Well maybe you all should boycott sony PS3 and just get a Xbox 360. You'll have less delays, more games, a way better online experience and now a lesser chance of RRoD.
But for me, I'll stick with my playstation 3. I like games, but I can wait. Your speaking to a guy that choose Neo Geo Pocket Color over a Nintendo GameBoy. Games were few and far away
Ruben @ Jan 23rd 2008 4:20PM
Gee I didn't know Uncharted was ported from the 360 and Ratchet from the wii, thanks for the info.
Sauvage @ Jan 23rd 2008 3:12PM
Amazon.co.uk has had it listed as December 30, 2008 since December '07, so they knew at least a month ago. So it's no surprise to me at all. I think the game will be canned and it's doors will close. That's my Pratcher prediction, especially with the current economic climate.
whoiscraig @ Jan 23rd 2008 3:15PM
This definitely sucks but just to clarify to some of the posters who don't seem to understand: fiscal year =/= calendar year.
Kruegmeister @ Jan 23rd 2008 3:44PM
With Resistance 2 and Killzone 2 coming out this is a real bad move by Ubisoft.
Maybe they have some of the Guys from Duke Nukem Forever working on their Haze Project...
Of course, releasing garbage is a bad Idea too.
Rooslin @ Jan 23rd 2008 3:44PM
the fact that this games been done and couldve released last year now they just want to put it into there next fiscal year so there next year wont look like crap
MAXfromBelow1979 @ Jan 23rd 2008 3:44PM
WTF! and another one..
tboy @ Jan 23rd 2008 3:45PM
Well. This game is quickly falling off of my "must have" category. If it does come out in 09, then I will NOT be purchasing it. Not because I do not want to, but because I have plans that will take up a few years of my time.
frankyn @ Jan 23rd 2008 3:56PM
This is Lair all over again...delayed, confirmed, delayed, released early...then a terrible game.
Christian @ Jan 23rd 2008 4:06PM
Hmm, first of all I think the '09' release is just a hyperbole. My guess is that the game is almost finished, but that they have discovered that balancing a game with asymetrical sides is extremely hard and takes a lot of time and tuning.
myself @ Jan 23rd 2008 4:18PM
thats it...
no more haze in my buying list whenever it comes...
unless its voted by everyone game of the year....
when released,sometime.
Jared @ Jan 23rd 2008 4:37PM
LOL! My friend is going to shi*t himself when he finds out about this. He has so much anticipation for this game it not funny. He thinks its going to be the best since slice bread... I personally think it looks stupid. I sure hope that what their working on...
