Worldwide PS3 releases for the week of January 27th

Rejoice, for January is almost over. That means we're halfway through the most tedious 1/6th of the year (not just in terms of games - we just hate Jan and Feb). Game releases are starting to pick up as we get further into the year and, while the Western world hasn't got anything to get excited about this week, this could be the best Japanese release week in quite some time. Possibly ever. Here's the full release list:

Conflict: Denied Ops

Conflict: Denied Ops? Don't worry, we've never heard of it either. It's by Eidos so we'd advise being cautious about buying it. Who knows, though - it could be good? We're looking forward to seeing an upturn in PS3 sales this week in Japan, what with the release of two well loved Japanese franchises. Not to mention Assassin's Creed finally being released on PS3 over there. Unfortunately us Westerners have another week to wait before we can get our hands on Devil May Cry 4. Not long now, though. Not long now ...

If you're really impatient, however, you can go ahead and import any of the above games. Your PS3 won't mind - in fact, it loves it. Release dates are constantly subject to change (which is our way of saying "don't blame us if we're wrong!")

Thats a pretty good week in Japan. Am I the only person who is confused by Japanese writing. Sometimes its in letters(english), sometimes its in symbols(japanese). It doesn't make sense to me.

The Japanese use the English alphabet for proper nouns, as well as loan words, or word taken from other languages. Usually they are translated into a phonetic spelling in Japanese, but that is not always the case. I think that eventually writing in the English alphabet became 'cool,' just as here in the States many people think Japanese Kanji and characters are cool. (Though obviously not to the same extent)

How can you not say the western world hasn't had anything. Burnout Paradise is one of the best games on the system IMHO.

I was in stiches last night with the other 7 players as the winner of races pulled stupid faces into the camera for everyone else to see.

hmm, I wonder what review score will Gamespot give for Conflict, and who will 'let go' because of it. ;)

And no, I've never even heard of this game and I hang out in game blogs/forums quite often.

I think its pretty pathetic how a "professional" game site doesn't know about a game being released. I don't know the last time I have not known about a game being released.

... I don't think ANYONE knows the last time they haven't known about a game - because... they didn't KNOW about it!

Aside from that, it just means some sort of combination of: having a crappy marketing crew, lack of advertising, creating a low budget game, uninteresting gameplay - and it just puts the case forward that (as Jem was saying) it could be a risky 50/60 bucks for the consumer.

I remember, the first issue of Official U.S. PlayStation Magazine that I bought had, on its demo disc, a demo of Conflict: Desert Storm II: Back to Baghdad. So, yeah, I've heard of the series before, and Amazon recommended Denied Ops to me the other day, but I do think that, at least here in the US, this series does not seem to be well-advertised at all. As far as not hearing about the game, as Wikipedia will tell you, Denied Ops is the fifth game in the Conflict series, which is developed by Pivotal Games, which has its headquarters in the UK.

Hmm I read your review Yoon. The multiplayer feature sounds very interesting with the run gunner and sniper co-op thing, but the rest of the analysis turned me off :( I'm not a fan of FPSs, but I wouldn't have a rejected a good/creative/fun multiplayer game
