CryENGINE 2 to be shown on PS3 at GDC
Cevat Yerli, Sten Hübler and Bernd Diemer will host a GDC session entitled "Crysis in the Making", providing a behind the scenes look at the challenges of developing Crysis and the CryENGINE 2. Other Crytek staff will also be in attendance at various programs during the show: Chris Evans, Technical Art Lead, Tomas Neumann, Crytek's Audio Programmer, and Tiago Sousa, R&D Graphics Programmer. Crytek will also host a series of public presentations at their booth #6611 in the North Hall.
Game Developer's Conference begins on February 18th in San Francisco. PS3 Fanboy will be updating live from the scene. Stay tuned.[Via NeoGAF]

I guess those "Crysis coming to PS3" rumors weren't too far off then.
WTangoFoxtrot @ Jan 29th 2008 11:13AM

If this is true, poor PC gamers, the last great exclusive, the only thing to justify the 500 dollars video card is gone.
:)

I'll have to look into this while i'm at GDC. Too much stuff to remember to look for.

Played the game on the PC and it was clear that Crytek was only concerned with making a great graphics engine and not a great game. I was really amazed with just how boring this game is, I loved Far Cry, but Crysis was just weak.
Having the engine on PS3 is great, but as far as the game itself goes, MEH.
Rowdehaj @ Jan 29th 2008 11:53AM
All the while it was a very empty experience when I played it, but that might just have been my graphics card :P
Seriously though, the game has no interesting storyline, characters, only a few cinematically grand moments, and I was wholly underwhelmed by the aliens.
MINION9000 @ Mar 6th 2008 10:06PM
They are putting the engine on there for Farcry 2, a game that also uses the cry engine. your just feeding of rumors if you think they are porting crysis.
wocyob @ Jan 29th 2008 12:17PM
wait so crysis is going to go on the xbox 360...i thought it could not handle it
Byron517 @ Jan 29th 2008 12:11PM
I just hope that the engine itself will showcase the power of the PS3 and how it can pull itself apart from the rest of the crowd!! Here's hope'n!!

If they do it right, I think they could do a hell of a lot with the PS3's many parallel processors. I'm a little worried that they'll just do the dumb port and as usual, it'll run better on the 360, because it's closer in architecture to the PC.
However, if they put as much effort into the PS3 version as they obviously put into the PC version, maybe it'll give the PS3 a chance to shine.

I hope the same =)

Sucks for PC owners. Wasted all of that money and now they can play it on their PS360. Pity really. But now that's all the confirmation we need that it's coming to consoles.
marklar @ Jan 29th 2008 3:05PM
yeah, sounds like the last throes of PC exclusive gaming - it's definitely cheaper to own a console these day
Rookas @ Jan 29th 2008 3:19PM
It's too bad the game sucks, it's just a showcase for the pretty graphics. I'm not that shallow, I'll take gameplay over pretty any day.
Popfrogs @ Jan 30th 2008 2:31AM
Yeah, I'm waiting for Resistance2 also.
jaisimar @ Feb 10th 2008 10:11PM
can u just explain what the poor gameplay was , no please i really want to hear about it ?
ppl dont even play the game but just keep bashing it !
bamf @ Jan 30th 2008 4:32PM
What site said it was being shown on PC and PS3, no mention of 360?
Merkwurdigelieb @ Feb 8th 2008 8:08AM
Wow, you people bashing PC owners about this should put a sock in it.
1) This is probably for Far Cry 2
2) I can't wait to see how turd-like the CryEngine will look playing at Medium settings at 1280x720 with no AA or AF @ 25 fps
3) My high-end graphics card cost me $300. Have you ever heard of the 8800GT or the 8800GTS G92 Revision?
4) My entire system cost me $1200, taxes+shipping, everything, assembled piece-by-piece with brand new parts that I personally chose myself, and I'll be way ahead in computer graphics for a long time to come, as all current games I play, save for Crysis, run way beyond 100 fps: CoD4, UT3, Orange Box, BioShock, GoW, etc. etc.
I just don't know how you people can deal with 25-30 fps, I guess you've been conditioned over time to accept the lack of smoothness... Yes, I've heard that CoD4 runs at 60 fps, good for those developers to put a good effort into managing resources well, but the game still looks likes sh*t at 600p and lowered graphics settings (textures and all that jazz)
klunky @ Apr 20th 2008 11:53AM
they are noy using cryengine in far cry 2 they are using the dunia engine
