Konami's generally beloved
Pro Evolution Soccer series has had a number of snafus on the PS3 with its
2008 title. We've already gotten one gameplay patch, but Konami has unleashed a second patch for all those experiencing gameplay troubles on your standard definition televisions. But really, if you have an SDTV, why'd you get the PS3 version of the game? This patch halts any picture stuttering you would experience on a standard definition TV -- but you've got bigger issues! Go get an HDTV and the problem will go away, too. It's just a much, much more expensive fix.

"But really, if you have an SDTV, why'd you get the PS3 version of the game? "
Because we have a PS3 and want the superior version? Seriously, Not everyone has a HDTV.
GamerGuyX @ Jan 29th 2008 2:18PM
We know that not everyone has an HDTV. Thats why this stupid patch was released. Everyone *should* have an HDTV. Otherwise the biggest benefit of the PS3 is wasted.
lawrence @ Jan 29th 2008 3:05PM
you mean "ps2" ah thereall good anyway

lol, the hdtv version of this needs patching more than the sdtv i reckon.
this probably wins the title of most buggy console game ever for me.
i actually had a shot that went in the goal and thru the net the other day. the ref ordered a goal kick.

I totally agree the replays still stutter like mad on my bravia hdtv. It`s not just sdtv that have issues with this gmae.I played my ps3 pro on a friends sdt.v and the replays was virtually stutter free and the slowdown and frame rate issues were virtually gone.So come on konami sort this out as this game was made specifcally for hd gamers. And if they can fix the sdtv problems also then great. All of us as consumers deserve glitch free titles wether we have sd or hdtvs end of

No offence but why did you went and spend money on a PS3 instead of getting a HDTV first?? Both the 360 and ps3 consoles today are primarily geared towards HD sets, playing either console on a SDTv is like you were playing on a xbox 1 or ps2.
Besides with the prices HD sets have dropped theres no reason not to pick up a set.
HAAS599 @ Jan 29th 2008 6:03PM
are you serious?
I had a 36" sony CRT with a ps3 hooked to it through component cables. it looked way better than xbox and ps2.
i think its smarter to buy a ps3 before an hd.
hd prices will go further down, you can build a blu-ray collection, and enjoy the games on ps3.
you spend big bucks on an hdtv and you have to spend more to enjoy it (hd channels, ps3). But you can enjoy a ps3 and blu-ray movies without an hd tv and when you do get one its like everything you have already bought is enhanced and you can enjoy your hdtv right out the box.
Dan @ Jan 29th 2008 7:22PM
@HAAS599
Yeah but theres a difference between having a Sony CRT 36' (w/component connections probably allowing at least 480i) and a little 15-25' inch sdtv with composite and s-video only connections.
Granted, if you have at least a higher end sdtv buying a ps3 can be somewhat justified. But if you got some middle to lower set then your just spending your money in the wrong area first.
Kane @ Jan 29th 2008 10:12PM
maybe because PS3/360 games arent just about graphics and how they look? I am enjoying every PS3 game I have on a standard TV -no problems and I am sure I am not the only one.
mattclarkie @ Jan 29th 2008 2:24PM
Damn you SDTV owners. You are adding extra cost to the average HDTV owning consumer. All these patches just because of 3 SDTV owners experiencing an issue cost a fortune in person hours, which as a result is adds to the burnen on us HDTV owners who have to save every penny to fuel or HD fetish.
Damn you all.
mattclarkie @ Jan 29th 2008 2:25PM
*burden.
andyscout @ Jan 29th 2008 3:40PM
screw you nick and all you other haters. Not everyone has the money for an HD set. I had to save up for half a year to buy my PS3. Then I started saving for an HDTV, but had to use the money to pay for a new PS3 after the first one was stolen. Not to mention that I'm a college student paying for books, food, etc... and I don't have a job anymore.
Not everyone's a rich, pampered momma's boy.

If your parents arent rich then Financial Aid is your friend, it sure as hell is mine. Don't cry to him because you couldnt find time for a part-time job, welcome to life.

actualy ther r difrences in gameplay between ps2 and ps3 versions as stated by reviews. and i have personaly xperienced this difrence my self, very diferent. dam it takes ages to type on ps3 lol.
Carl;)G @ Jan 29th 2008 3:11PM
Er you should be able to play ANY PS3 game on ANY T.V you got!!! SDTV or HDTV! You don't have to own a HDTV??? Its only this game that has this problem :-/
bigd7387 @ Jan 29th 2008 3:31PM
It's Sony's fault. Its why the developers are confused. They sell a HD game system and then give you regular SD hook-ups with it. I had to wait 2 days to get HDMI cables to see it correctly. You may not like the 360 but at least the Elite gives you a HDMI cables and the Pro version comes standard with Componet/Composite cables.
heavenlysword @ Jan 29th 2008 3:35PM
I dont get it why does it has anything to do with this? I mean, it is because some people complain and they made the patch. Thats pretty much it.
And beside why would I get an Elite unit just to get an HDMI cable. I bought my PS3 since the day it came out and was very aware that it doesn't come with an HDMI cable. So no biggie.
Consolcwby @ Jan 29th 2008 9:55PM
Am I the only person here whose HDTV CAME with HDMI cables?? O.O The PS3 is compatible with all HDMI cables, is it not? Why'd it take 2 days to get one? I'm kinda confuzed about this niggling point of people...
Kane @ Jan 29th 2008 3:34PM
"But really, if you have an SDTV, why'd you get the PS3 version of the game? "
uh you know maybe some people can not afford both HDTV and PS3 and decided to buy PS3 first?! you don't HAVE to own a HDTV to enjoy most if not all PS3 games.

Probably the biggest let down of 2007, PES2008 was a sack of foul smelling faeces - A core game hardly improved upon over the last 3 or 4 iterations (from PS2 versions), a terribly laggy on-line experience, an on-line registration linking the game to a single person's email address, horrific replays to the point that they were un-watchable and to top it all off, a patch a few months after release which actually cut the supposed high def graphics so that replay and in game slow down was less nauseating.
Konami knew they were releasing a bad product and they cashed in on the loyalty of football fans the world over. It was a cynical move from the company and one which has rightly lost many a loyal fan of its footy game, me included.
Am I bothered about the latest patch? Nope.
Have I entered the Play.com PES2008 on-line league? Nope.
Did I trade in my copy of the game shortly after the 1st patch was released? Oh yes.
Ian @ Jan 29th 2008 6:54PM
...and just one more rhetorical question - Will I wait and read reviews of future versions of the game before purchasing next time? Yes.
Konami, get your act together!
Liquid @ Jan 29th 2008 10:55PM
i have my ps3 with component cables in my standart tv Sony WEGA and it Look nice..
J.G.F. @ Jan 30th 2008 6:02AM
And you wonder why people hate on PS3 owners?
I am a new PS3 owner with an SD set and I come on here and people are telling me I shouldn't have even bothered buying a PS3 without an HDTV.
Considering how the PS3 is selling you should be welcoming people into the fold rather than pushing them out.
egofl2 @ Mar 22nd 2008 12:46AM
I have an hdtv with a 6 foot hdmi cable and the game looks better on the hdtv but suffers on both tv's about the same problem the game stutters like hell.
