Another pretty unexciting PSN update rounds off the rather uninspiring month of January. Fans of
Folklore will be happy to receive the final set of download content for the game.

- Folklore add-on 5 ($3.99)

Still no Pixeljunk Monsters demo? That's a real shame.
Nate @ Jan 31st 2008 4:47PM
If it looks like a game you'd like, it probably is. If it doesn't, it's probably not. It's 8 bucks, it shouldn't be that big of a deal.
Really... I think we're getting jaded here at PS3F. DLC for two games and a demo is a bad update?
Lars @ Jan 31st 2008 4:58PM
I was always interested in PJM, but I showed it to a couple people who were like "umm, what the hell is that? Is this the Wii?" Once I forced them to sit down and play some multiplayer, they were loving it. It's simple to play, but hard to master. It becomes quite challenging as it goes on, and I think that the balance of simple design + frantic difficulty = win.
It's like dual-analog shooters... pretty simple concept, but if implemented correctly, they can be very fun.
HAAS599 @ Jan 31st 2008 4:58PM
thank you Nate.
If you want the monsters demo so bad go get off the japan store.
ArmiMaan @ Jan 31st 2008 9:53PM
I'm on the fence about Pixeljunk Monsters and would like to try it out before I buy, without having to go through the trouble of creating a Japanese account. As I understand it, the demo is already in English, so there shouldn't be any reason for it to not be put on the North American store.
Ah well, I guess it'll show up eventually, and I'll try it then.
Popfrogs @ Feb 1st 2008 10:33AM
Just buy it, it's one of the best PSN games of all time.
aiko.adonia @ Jan 31st 2008 4:51PM
meh :(
JKPierce @ Jan 31st 2008 4:52PM
Have to agree, Nate. This isn't an altogether bad update.
Loves me some Smashing Pumpkins.
Lars @ Jan 31st 2008 4:53PM
"again, these are quite uninspiring"
Huh? Wha?!
I'd say that about the Oasis week, but not this week. Three different bands, two of them awesome... I could care less about Coheed & Cambria though.
"Another pretty unexciting PSN update rounds off the rather uninspiring month of January."
Again... Whaaa?!?!
Pixel Junk Monsters = awesome!
DMC4 demo = yes!
Tons of Folklore packs = splendid! (I'm still enjoying Folklore)
3+ Rock Band songs every week = amazing!
...and the rest.
Solace @ Jan 31st 2008 5:13PM
I was about to post the exact same thing.
How quickly we forget what it was like a year ago *ahem* Nancy Drew and no demos...
I'll take a "disappointing" month anytime if that means I get:
- big demos like DMC4
- constant stream of DLC for RockBand
- heavily supported DLC for sleepers like Folklore
- upgraded demos like Burnout Paradise's new updated online demo
- two PSone games in one month (for NA, that's a big deal)
- awesome surprises like PJM
- goodies like themes and wallpapers that we NEVER have to pay for
warlock7 @ Feb 1st 2008 12:34PM
Where's the albums?!?!?!
I want Who's next and the Black Album already!!!!
What about all those Grateful Dead tracks?!?!?!
HaloEleven @ Jan 31st 2008 4:56PM
Uninspiring Rock Band DLC my butt! That's a GREAT choice of songs by Smashing Pumpkins, and the Working Man cover is excellent (although, I'll have had enough Rush after this, thank you). I was never a fan of C&C until I heard "Welcome Home" on Rock Band, so I look forward to a new song of theirs too.
SQUIRTFORCE @ Jan 31st 2008 5:03PM
Is anyone else tired of all these bland buddy first person shooters? The thing that bugs me is they don't seem to use the same button layout as other fps's so you have to learn a new setup for each one of these turds. And they always use EVERY SINGLE BUTTON. God i'm old.
emaxximus @ Jan 31st 2008 6:00PM
Tired of them? HA! I NEVER liked them to BEGIN with. But I guess that wont stop us from being bombarded with a bunch of mediocre to poor rehashes of the same old crap with different control layouts.
Jeremy @ Jan 31st 2008 5:07PM
I've really started to look forward to Thursdays, but this sucks.
chris.westermann @ Jan 31st 2008 5:09PM
Wow, more Folklore add-ons. What is the real cost of this game, $299? When a game starts costing as much as the system, perhaps they should only release free content.
Solace @ Jan 31st 2008 5:19PM
I guess math isn't your strong suit.
game: $60
bundle 1: $7
bundle 2: $7
bundle 3: $7
holiday bundle: FREE
contest bundle: FREE
TOTAL: $80 (ish)
We're getting:
- 20 extra quests
- 8 new folk (6 paid for, 2 for free)
- 8 new skins (6 paid for, 2 for free)
Considering expansions go for about $20, I'd say that this is pretty reasonable.
Heck, even if you're too cheap to pay for them, you still can get free stuff.
aaron_k7 @ Jan 31st 2008 6:11PM
10-Key's FTW friend! Just in case, looks something like the following:
7 8 9 +
4 5 6 =
1 2 3

DMeisterJ @ Jan 31st 2008 5:32PM
...?
Agente47 @ Jan 31st 2008 5:37PM
uninspiring???
Smashing rocks! This is great news.
aaron_k7 @ Jan 31st 2008 5:38PM
I want a Folklore Deluxe add-on pack: all the add-on's in one downloadable package. Then, and only then, will I buy the game.
As an aside, how in the world could you hope to capture the greatness of Coheed with a cover band. Eff that...
ArmorForVictor @ Jan 31st 2008 6:05PM
yes i also agree that they should of used a master track, but i'm still downloading it anyway.
MrSlam @ Jan 31st 2008 6:47PM
dear sony,
people love retro. retro is very now. see: nintendo's virtua arcade. fancy shmancy psn remakes are nice. but originals are fun as well. please start flooding psn with ps1 games. being able to play them off the hard drive and on psp is a wonderful thing.
wocyob @ Jan 31st 2008 9:48PM
wow i didnt think a game could be worst then kane and lynch but this conflict is worst or on par with kane and lynch...just a really bad game
JKPierce @ Feb 1st 2008 5:23AM
My wife and I enjoyed the Conflict demo infinitely more than the poorly-controlled Kane and Lynch. Just turn your brain off and don't expect the AI to be on par with Resistance.
Popfrogs @ Feb 1st 2008 10:34AM
I thought the same thing. Controls are goofy, graphics are poor, lighting is poor, night vision goggles fade in and out. It's another stinker.
NACHO @ Jan 31st 2008 9:52PM
yea, i'm starting to realize why the gertsmangate (i have no idea how to spell it) controvercy was blamed by eidos, they blow xD
chimaera9 @ Jan 31st 2008 11:35PM
I'm annoyed that Theme Hospital is only for the European update this week. I was really looking forward to that! It's one of those rare games I think I could actually get my wife to play. I hope Sony is bringing it here, too!
JKPierce @ Feb 1st 2008 5:24AM
I take my Smashing Pumpkins comment back. The song is infuriating on expert drums.
TheSh0wstopper @ Feb 1st 2008 8:29AM
I am VERY SUPRISED that there is already 26 posts and I am the first person to say that COnflict Denied Ops is a piece of garbage!!! Oh my God how does trash like this get developed. No I realize every game cant be on par with Call of Duty 4 but I really cannot see ANYONE playing this game after experiencing COD4, or rather picking this game up when COD4 is on shelves next to it. The funny thing is I was playing the Turning Point Demo on Xbox Live and thought to myself "this is gonna be the worse FPS of the year" and then I played Denied Ops. Anyone who buy either games should have their nuts removed.
-TheSh0wstopper
Popfrogs @ Feb 1st 2008 10:35AM
Yeah, the only "denied op" should have been the order to green light this turd.
linebeginstoblur @ Feb 1st 2008 11:26AM
I am very surprised that you didn't even take a look at the comments, did you?

Then, on 2-01-2008 @ 8:29AM, you posted your comment.
As for your actual comment, I really did not like your statement, "Anyone who buy either games should have their nuts removed." Your opinion of the game is very subjective. And even if someone paid full price for a game like Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing, they don't deserve that kind of punishment. Okay, so it's not worth your time, but it may be worth someone else's time. I hate seeing comments as closed-minded as what you said.
TheSh0wstopper @ Feb 1st 2008 11:15AM
Also, Wat a load of crap that the Euro's got Theme Hospital and the U.S. didnt. Now I understand that we usually get things earlier and they get screwed and have to wait, but thats understandable... The U.S. is superior/more important.
The U.S. accounts for more revenue in the gaming industry than Japan and Europe combined (maybe slight hyperbole).
This should be the last time that those Metrosexual Europeans get any gaming content before us Americans. Afterall if it weren't for the U.S. they would all be speaking German.

linebeginstoblur @ Feb 1st 2008 11:50AM
And here's another post of yours. Please stop posting.
"The U.S. is superior/more important."
Okay, so you're arrogant and don't have an open mind for the rest of the world.
"The U.S. accounts for more revenue in the gaming industry than Japan and Europe combined (maybe slight hyperbole)."
It's a huge hyperbole. In fact, it's completely wrong altogether. VG Chartz says that, in the week of January 28, America sold about 51,000 PS3s, while Europe sold about 63,000.
"This should be the last time that those Metrosexual Europeans get any gaming content before us Americans."
This is also extremely offensive. This is a very rude and inaccurate stereotype. Also, for the most part, they get their games a long time after we get the same ones. They already have to wait a long time for the most part due to localization issues.
"Afterall if it weren't for the U.S. they would all be speaking German."
Wow. All I have to say to this is that I hope you get off the Internet, shut your mouth, and never say anything again until you can calm down, open your mind, and have some sense.
TheSh0wstopper @ Feb 1st 2008 12:05PM
@linebeginstoblur
Dude chill out! I am just joking around. Maybe you have never read any of my other posts. I'm not a brainless idiot with an internet connection. I make a few jokes here and there. If your soo sensitive maybe you should get off the internet. Geez, Who removed your balls and replaced them with a vagina.
Lighten up.

Ok - Conflict Ops is the worst PS3 game I have played to date! I had to turn it off before I threw up. What a waste of bandwidth! It looks like it was designed on a PS2 dev kit...horrile :(
I feel sorry for the devs.

If you were in any of my law classes using logic like that a professor would rip you to shreds.
1. You picked a single week and used that as evidence against a statement that referenced a broad timeframe. And furthermore you limited it to one product when I referenced the industry as a whole. I said that the US accounts for more revenue, not PS3 sales. So for that week Europe sold 12k more PS3's but what if the US sold 20k more 360's, 20k more wiis and 1million more game titles.
Come on bro, if your gonna argue use your brain.

I liked the Conflict demo.
Especially sniping by leaning, and giving commands, Co-op was good too.
Not a scratch on COD4 though.
