Brand new images from the updated Home
You may have read yesterday that Home is changing. The extensive beta program has yielded a good amount of feedback for the SCE team, and now we have the first screenshots of Home's revamped look. See some of the beautiful new vistas you can implement for your Home Space, and see the new Central Square, which looks far more vast than before. Overall, these changes look for the good. Perhaps, we'll actually see this release in Spring, as promised?

This is going to be so sweet when it comes out. Even though I would love to have it out now, I'm glad they are taking their time to fine tune it so it makes a big splash when it does come out!

This is going to be really good. I know that I'll enjoy Home, looks better every time I see it
brettjr @ Feb 1st 2008 11:00AM
So where was this feedback done anyway? Cause I have some feedback of my own I wish to get out.
Dahk @ Feb 1st 2008 11:00AM
Hmmm, you think Architecturing folks could potentially use Playstation Home as a venue for either promoting or testing out the impact of their designs?
I mean if Sony is able to shoot out cheap PS Home dev kits for constructing buildings with some CAD software or something.
I know quite a few Architecture students, so it could be something where they can really test out how everyone else views their designs and whatnot. Heck hold contests even.
I dunno I'm just throwing this idea out there =P.

Can I jump off the balcony or do I have to walk up to the elevator, push the button , wait, get in, listen to elevator music...
Can I buy a segway?
mji245 @ Feb 1st 2008 11:06AM
so guys where do u want your home to be as for me i will say next to the beach like in that photo
rbanke @ Feb 1st 2008 1:16PM
Personally, I hate tropical environments...I prefer overcast/wintery scenery.
KayRazy Ken Kutaragi @ Feb 1st 2008 11:14AM
kudos to Sony for taking their time with this. As much as ignorant fanboys love to bash the PS3, it made alot of sense for Sony to hold Home back until it was ready.
And kudos for Sony on taking the beta testers seriously.
2008 the year the PS3 will dominate.
Praise be to Home.
Michael @ Feb 1st 2008 11:23AM
Just want to burst your bubble and let you know that I have been a home beta tester since day one. Not only is it still a broken piecer but you can't do hardly anything they have promised yet. Also this update you speak of happened about 3 mos ago at least. Don't get excited yet folks its not even close to release or open beta for that matter.
L @ Feb 1st 2008 11:27AM
Thank you someone Tell us how it is.
Plus when it does come out someone is going to have to pay for the sever ..... it won,t be SONY
Carlton @ Feb 1st 2008 12:15PM
@ L
It will be ad-supported. They will also make money from selling "virtual" items. There are plenty of potential revenue streams available without having to charge users for the service (a.k.a. Micro$hafting).
Vince UK @ Feb 1st 2008 2:41PM
This update hasn't happened yet Michael, take a look at the pictures.
TheSh0wstopper @ Feb 1st 2008 11:39AM
Here's how sony should do the Living spaces:
Those people that want a "free" living space should live in apartment building or "Projects", sony could even have little pixel rats running around. But those who are willing to pay for living spaces should be able to get houses, condo's, or even mansions depending on how much they are willing to spend. And the people living in free spaces who suck at online gaming should be evicted and forced to live on the streets (Homeless), but only in areas near the apartment buildings and projects. The people who pay for their houses shouldn't be bothered by the homeless gamers moping about asking for spare change... unless they could sick attack dogs on them or something.

lol. greatest. idea. ever.
but is this Home or New York city?
i would probably live in the projects though cause ill be dammed if im paying for a virtual house that doesnt do anything to add to my gaming experience.
DMeisterJ @ Feb 1st 2008 11:54AM
Can't wait for this
Brian Spence @ Feb 1st 2008 11:58AM
It looks like some of the new interface has a "Little Big Planet" feel to it.
Brodie-san @ Feb 1st 2008 12:04PM
@brettjr
Home is in beta and there is a "secret cadre" of people testing it right now offering opinions to make it better.
I'd love to see some of these test cases cause the one were the dev mentioned that the bowling alley was too far away had be in stitches. Tut tut. Gives another meaning to the term "Lazy developers".
;)
Nate @ Feb 1st 2008 12:31PM
The answer to "too far away" and "it takes 12 seconds to walk up the steps" should be pretty simple - let people run... as fast as they want. hell, let 'em fly, like in Second Life. This isn't an MMO where strictly controlling movement between places is at all important (they don't call it World of Walking for nothing).
Come to think of it, teleportation seems perfectly reasonable. I think I remember that you could instantly move back to your house or whatever... no reason not to allow that everywhere. If you want to maintain the in-game illusion, just put teleportation chambers everywhere instead of just poofing in and out of existence.
Anyway.... whatever it turns out to be, it's definitely better than not having anything.
Fiery Food Dude @ Feb 1st 2008 12:37PM
I can understand virtual items such as +5 sword being cool. But, this concept/design seems feminine to me.
Popfrogs @ Feb 1st 2008 3:43PM
I agree with Nate. I'd accept a Star Trek-style teleportation effect on people that wanted to warp from place to place. The only reason you'd want to walk around is to bump into new people anyway.
chris.westermann @ Feb 1st 2008 1:29PM
My big question is, are there any technological issues left with Home preventing its release, or is it just a matter spit and polish? I really wouldn't care if they released Home only to change the environment based on user feedback, but if all they are doing is implementing fancy looking buildings and environments and art under the guise of wanting it to be perfect for release, then just release it already because it won't be perfect on release anyways. Part of what I like about Sony and the PS3 is their continued dedication of improving it after the fact, Home will be another product they will continue to tweak long after its released.
Brodie-san @ Feb 1st 2008 1:50PM
My japanese is still somewhat limited. Can anybody explain why the bed has the word Raku beneath it? The Google, it does nothing.
Lars @ Feb 1st 2008 5:49PM
Brand name?
Robert @ Feb 1st 2008 7:34PM
From another person learning Japanese language :-), It says ragu (ラグ) that means "rug", maybe the graphics depicts a rolled up rug
OTAM @ Feb 1st 2008 2:36PM
As a PS3 owner I will say Home is going to be released when Final Fantasy comes out.
At the earliest.
TheSh0wstopper @ Feb 1st 2008 3:34PM
As a Final Fantasy fanatic I can tell you that Final Fantasy will not be released (in the US) until 2009 (at the earliest)...
-TheSh0wstopper
Lars @ Feb 1st 2008 5:47PM
The language is all gobbledeegook... does that mean it's coming to Japan in Spring and the US will see it later, if ever? (see PSP TV, Cam, GPS, etc.)
Brodie-san @ Feb 2nd 2008 9:41AM
Ah, I think you're right, it is Ragu. It's hard to make the voiced notation in the screenshot. That makes a lot more sense
;)

@TheSh0wstopper
just lmao at ur comments....anyway, i'm still mad at them for not including me in the beta :(
facepalm @ Feb 4th 2008 11:42AM
are they going to come out with just a simple interface like Live fo people that just want a little more to the minimum? I'd rather be able to look at videos, chat with friends in game, compare their games played with mine, and look at achievements in a way that's 100x faster than walking around apartments and such.
I don't see myself ever getting into this kind of stuff.
AC2020x @ Feb 4th 2008 6:40PM
IDK if I'm more excited for this or little big planet, Home is gonna pwn getting people connected in games and stuff, I can't wait!!!
