Budget-priced PS3 titles on their way to Japan
It appears that Sony is set to launch a PlayStation budget line in Japan titled "PlayStation 3 the Best." A Japanese retailer posted the first lineup, which includes Resistance: Fall of Man, FolksSoul, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Gundam: Target in Sight and Ridge Racer 7 priced at 3,800 yen with a March 19 ship date.Like the Xbox 360's Platinum Hits, PlayStation 3 the Best line will be more expensive than the last generation, and while there's been no official announcement, it's probably fair to reason that once the budget titles come stateside, they'll be priced at $30.
It's about time the Greatest Hits comes our way, and we think it's a great way for Sony to continue the positive momentum it gained over the holidays.

How many sales until a game is considered a greatest hit?
halebound00 @ Feb 3rd 2008 11:01PM
I think it was a million copies (for PS2 games at least) before they made Greatest Hits.
PoloS3 @ Feb 3rd 2008 10:32PM
Whats Folkssoul I have never heard of it
AF @ Feb 3rd 2008 10:36PM
It's the Japanese title for Folklore.
kingofwale @ Feb 3rd 2008 10:41PM
I would pick up 3 titles if it comes out to US (greatest hit titles)
Ninja Gaiden, Resistent and Folklore.
Good idea Sony.
OAKside @ Feb 3rd 2008 11:01PM
I always tried to avoid the Greatest Hits versions for PS2, with their big red "discount!" banner and all. But at least that means great games for less and recognition for the Best.
xvertigenx @ Feb 4th 2008 12:48AM
Agreed. Something more aesthetically pleasing than the big red banner would be nice. Come to think of it, the green banner for ps1 games sucked too.
tyrizzle @ Feb 4th 2008 1:17AM
A cobalt blue would do nicely

i always laugh at the alien skull wearing the WW2 helmet. i can only imagine how his last few moments must have been..."I'm on your side, honest baby!"
Jeremy @ Feb 4th 2008 3:12AM
How does this work? Are they the full game? Is it just a packaging/marketing change?
Figboy @ Feb 4th 2008 4:11AM
Jeremy, it's just a packaging, marketing change.
the games are 100% intact, but instead of paying $60 for them, you are paying $30-$35 for them.
great deal.
and to halebound, on the PS2, in order to be considered for the Greatest Hits line, the title had to sell 500,000 copies or more, not 1 million.
as for the red banner on the PS2 greatest hits lines: i buy video games to enjoy the *GAME, not the box that it ships in. as long as a game like, say, Metal Gear Solid 3 is *AWESOME, i don't care what kind of packaging it has. it could be a black box, with a post it note saying, "Metal Gear Solid 3" and it wouldn't affect, in any way, my enjoyment of the game.
yes, it's not very aesthetically pleasing, but i don't play games to look good. i play games to have fun. a nicely designed package will surely make you say, "oh, that's a cool cover," but once the disc is home, it's popped into my PS3, and the only concern on my mind then is "this game better not be scratched or broken in some way."
xvertigenx @ Feb 4th 2008 8:49AM
You're completely right. In the end it doesn't matter. But sometimes the artwork and packaging are just a part of the game it self. Final Fantasy VII for instance, had a beautiful/epic cover. And every time I look at it I get nostalgic. But the big green strip on the side of the greatest hits just cheapens it, yanno?
Not a big deal, but still...
joshua @ Feb 4th 2008 4:37AM
hey this has nothing to do with the greastest hits, but i was wondering if anyone knows how to get the X,O,square, and triangle symboles for clantags on cod4. and also how to change the color of the gamer tag on cod4
Ciaran @ Feb 4th 2008 5:49AM
Hit me up on the PSN: xXShadowSlayerXx and then you can tell me your MSN (If you have one?).
In the UK these are called Platinum Hits, they were pretty damn nice. But the US "Greatest Hits" just looks ugly.
Phizzy @ Feb 4th 2008 7:23AM
Yeah, the platinum range is a lot less ugly than these horrible red things, but I still had to put them on a separate shelf... Black/silver didn't go with the normal blue/white boxes.
joshua @ Feb 4th 2008 4:33AM
does anyone know how to get the circle, square, triangle, and x symbols on cod4
Khaliel @ Feb 4th 2008 4:36AM
As said before, it's not a million copy, but neither 500 000 ^^ The game need to sell 400 000 copies in less than 6 months to be accepted in budget line. The 6 months timeline is important, not so many games are able to do it.
And SurferGirl already said it, budget line for US and EU will be launched in march with "Resistance", "Motorstorm" and "Warhawk". Then to come later this year, "Heavenly Sword", "Assassin's Creed" and "Uncharted".
But no Folklore, Gundam and so on for US/EU, they didn't sell 400 000 copies in 6 months.
rawd @ Feb 4th 2008 9:32AM
Sweet! I want Resistance, never got around to picking that up yet
cycopl @ Feb 4th 2008 10:24AM
No offense, but some of you guys sound pretty OCD... avoiding games because of the greatest hits label? Putting them on a different shelf? Kinda crazy... I just play the games, I don't care what the packaging looks like. :P
Saffie @ Feb 4th 2008 10:43AM
Ewww... greatest hits. I always dislike that red Greatest Hits logo.
OAKside @ Feb 4th 2008 3:53PM
Thank you. Perfectionist gamers unite! (Or something.)
Damian @ Feb 4th 2008 11:57AM
As I only purchased a PS3 two weeks ago this is great news for me so far i have got Call of Duty 4 , Assassins Creed and Warhawk but because i waited a year or so to get my PS3 i can now take advantage of some of the original release titles particularly Resistance at a much cheaper price . Couldn't give a flying duck what the box looks like you guys are crazy , do you match your shoes with your outfits ? jeez men aren't men anymore !! (jokin) .
OAKside @ Feb 4th 2008 3:57PM
I wear white shoe with black outfit. No match. I MAN!!
