A primer to the world of PSP homebrew
The PSP homebrew scene can be quite scary at times. Technical jargon, confusing instructions, shady websites -- they all seem to be part of a world that many casual PSP users just don't want to be a part of. Thankfully, our friends at Download Squad have written up a simple, easy to follow introduction to the scene. It chronicles the interesting history of the homebrew scene, and how it's developed to this day.Check it out.

Now i have heard that homebrew psp's are the way to go but.......... what can i do with it? if i make it homebrew enabled what does it do? is their a website that i can download things. is their a way to UN-Homebrew your psp? What benifits are out their for me?

Google is your friend.
driven2sin @ Feb 4th 2008 4:59PM
you can brick it for sure
ryan @ Feb 4th 2008 8:31PM
You can brick it, but you don't really need to worry about it because you can use a Pandora's Battery to un-brick it.
Mentality @ Feb 4th 2008 4:51PM
Abit brief and incorrect in places, the GTA exploit was used to downgrade 2.50 - 2.71, the Lumines was used for 3.80 (if im correct) and the 2.00 was an exploit in the firmware via tiff.
zoen151 @ Feb 4th 2008 5:02PM
No, Lumines was used to downgrade 3.50 I think.
HAAS599 @ Feb 4th 2008 4:52PM
I would like to get some of the apps and emulators but I dont want to brick my psp and I dont want to miss out on the new "official" psp updates.
Also i have the latest firmware so i cant go back to 1.50 to get the homebrew firmware installed.
i'll check out this guide and see if there is something that wasnt there a couple of months ago.
Mentality @ Feb 4th 2008 5:38PM
You don't need to miss out on the official firmwares because the customs are released like a week or two after and have all the same features as the official (minus locationfree player if you install the 1.50 Kernel) and you have practically no risk of bricking, I never heard of anyone bricking in a long time, specially since the release of pandora which unbricks ANY psp.
d4nk42o @ Feb 4th 2008 6:03PM
with the pandora battery u can downgrade any psp back to 1.50 then upgrade to M33 cfw.
Maninatrunk77 @ Feb 4th 2008 7:48PM
How and where do you get this pandora's battery, and how does it work?
Daniel @ Feb 4th 2008 8:43PM
Yeah please explain pandora's battery, is it an actual battery? I know nothing about it but am curious.
NotAFanboy @ Feb 4th 2008 9:52PM
The person who wrote this is a homebrew noob. So many mistakes.
emaxximus @ Feb 4th 2008 10:32PM
Its all as clear as mud to me now!
GoBob @ Feb 4th 2008 10:52PM
Hey guys! I found this new website called Google! You just type in what you're looking for and it gives you the information!!! You should try it out sometime!
HAAS599 @ Feb 5th 2008 1:04PM
stfu about google already
yeah you can type in something and find a site but I would rather get a recommended site from a homebrew expert than just pick random sites.
GoBob @ Feb 5th 2008 1:11PM
I really don't understand what the problem is. I had to learn about the PSP homebrew scene from searching google. I'm hardly an "expert(moar liek n00b, amirite?)," but I know enough to do what I want. If you really want someone to hold your hand, fine. psp-hacks.com is a good start. Really, any PSP modding forum is a good place to start. Don't talk, lurk. Search threads, because someone already asked your question and they got an answer.
HAAS599 @ Feb 5th 2008 1:46PM
yes i've done all that already.
everyone knows what google is and how to use it.
your not helping anyone, everyone on this comment thread should know what a forum is and what google is.
So instead of making sarcastic comments, I'll post something productive like a good tutorial that is on youtube.

Do you know what youtube is GoBob?
If you dont got to google and type youtube and go to some forums and lurk around to figure it out.
GoBob @ Feb 5th 2008 2:32PM
Then why are people asking silly questions that can easily be found? My problem is I'm tired of people who want answers spoon fed to them. I find that you learn more my researching something yourself then asking everyone else to give you the answers.
I like that youtube comment. That's a nice dig. However, it's unfortunate that you have to use a youtube video instead of reading a much more detailed tutorial off a mod forum or the like. Then again, I'm sure you'd need help with doing something as simple as DOS commands.
GoBob @ Feb 5th 2008 2:44PM
Anyways, I'm done participating in this little pseudo flamewar.
HAAS599 @ Feb 5th 2008 2:52PM
yeah me too, it was fun and funny.
