It's finally happening: Sony is developing hologram technology. Just check out the above video, where the fog/vapor/whatever from a lake is used to create a truly haunting 3D image of everyone's favorite lake monster. At least, we think there's some fog. If there isn't, we have no idea how this was done. But we need them mass-produced and put in every lake around the world. Just for fun.
It looks great, although this effect has actually been around for years. It's technically not a hologram, as It's a fine screen of water sprayed into the air, and then a laser image projected onto that screen. Very similar to how a television works. I've seen the effect in Darling Harbour in Sydney, although not on this scale.
Actually packaging is a big part of this technology. It doesn't take much to have a projector running a video and some fine water mist sprayed into the air.
It reminded me of a prototype screen I saw before that used a small projector and a carbon dioxide bar that trickled out "smoke". As the smoke fell from the bar it formed a sheet of gas that the image was projected onto. Pretty neat.
Yeah, it's fog. I seen something like this on a TV show called "Beyond Tomorrow"... where they had these signs with a fine fog screen from top to bottom... an dyou could walk through it.
Its really not fine "prayed water" as some say.
It's just fog, you can barely feel it.
Sony's just expanded on this & made the effect larger.
If you look at the japanese documentary about this hologram (on youtube too), you would know there is no fog, it's laser made (as all 3D hologram till now) it's 15 meters in height, and it's the very first 3D hologram of this size (the max size for a full 3D laser hologram was 30 centimeters till now). So you can watch it from any angle, it's 3D, it always has a full shape, with a front, back, and sides (so depends from where you watch it, you never see it from front, you can be on the other side of the river and so see the back, or be on the bridge and see the side). Oh and it's used as commercial for "The Water Horse" movie.
By the way, making a 30cm laser 3D hologram is easy, many company propose now to make a 3D version of yourself for just $40. You can then offer it to anyone. You can choose between red or blue laser, and so have a reproduction of yourself in 30cm in 3D in your room ^^. You don't need anything else to watch out (like fog :P). Just take the base, turn on the hologram, and you appear ^^.
They have this techn ology at disney world for their "fantasmic" show. its awersome. they spray water mist into the air and tyhen project an image on it. was to go sony on doing something cool with it and not just showing mickey mouse.
I dont think it's water vapor or fog. I think it's just a couple of giant pieces of glass and a lot of high powered projectors like in the outdoor movies.
Don't you lot read the previous comments? Khaliel said it was lazer technology. i've seen something similar to this before where lasers created 3d images. It was in the opening ceremony of the last olympic games.
