Yahtzee really quite likes Call of Duty 4
It's been months since Yahtzee riffed on a PS3 game but today he's given his special attention to PS3 Fanboy's GOTY 2007, Call of Duty 4. Fittingly he seems to quite like it, though he doesn't quite place it among the high echelons of the likes of Portal - and rightly so. As usual his review is dead on.
If you're new to the world of Zero Punctuation and enjoy the above video, then make sure you check out all of his other reviews. We've been watching since he first criticised the Heavenly Sword(s) demo way back in the mists of 2007. Please Yahtzee, if you're reading this, review more PS3 games!

I can't seem to post, so I am trying a reply.
I have known about, but never watched a ZP review until a few days ago, and then I watched the MoH Airborne one whilst I had some free time at uni.
I crapped myself with laughter. Everything he says is correct, plus he adds lots of clever remarks and great animations. Sometimes he can be a bit hard to follow, but this stuff rivals the AVN in terms of funniness, actually he is funnier than AVN.
I can't watch this one because there is too much noise where I am, and I haven't got my headphones, but I will watch it ASAP.

Brilliant!

I wrote a long comment about how great these reviews are, but it refuses to post it.

Yeah, happened to me yesterday on the Sony plans to update PAL PSN. rofl

Even if you've seen all Yahtzee's ZP reviews, there's still at least one point in all of them that you can't contain your laughter. Excellent stuff! (Soap McT?)

Once again, dead on. The most honest reviews one can find are zero punctuation pieces. No bias, no BS. I mean Halo 3, Crysis, Bioshock...all of Yahtzee's reviews are spot on...and fanboys tend to love them until it's a game that they like that gets it in the ass. (Halo 3, Bioshock) Only THEN the guy becomes a "prick" and "is nit-picking". Great review; I'd suggest you go to the website and see them all in the archive. I promise you won't be disappointed...

I enjoyed CoD4, but it certainly isn't as good as the endless praise from gaming sites would have you believe, especially in the area of graphics. I mean, IGN gave the graphics a perfect 10, when low native resolution, muddy textures and the near complete absence of normal maps and shaders should've knocked it down at least a few pegs. That said, the on-rails Chernobyl mission was one of the most well realized and immersive gaming moments in recent memory.

@upz
i don't know what you are talking about nor do i care to argue, but i agree about the All Guillied up Level. very immersive and very replayable despite how on rails it is.
COD 4 is the only game in recent memory that got nearly perfect scores from everywhere i look. even those that aren't into military shooters tend to agree that the game is well built.

lol i just saw the heavenly sword video review and i thought it was funny as hell...best part was when he was talking about the RE5 trailer good stuff

Yahtzee is my freakin hero. I'm glad to know that the writers here agree.

That did make me laugh, a lot.
Would have made me laugh even more, but I had to restrain myself so I didn't get a right head ache from the wife for waking her up by laughing loudly at a humorous video on the Internet.
oh hum! ;)

Oh yeah, I still have to play this. It's been sitting next to me for two weeks now.
I love him too, and I'll even enjoy his reviews where he goes on about my favorite games. I am a mighty Bioshock whore/fanboy, and he was entirely right.
Not as right as Halo 3, but still damned right.
SuitCase @ Feb 6th 2008 6:31PM
I very much liked this review, but I'm surprised he didn't take issue with the 4 hours of playing time. In Portal he expounded on why it's OK for a game to be short, but in this one.. I don't know. CoD4 is less justified to be as short a game as it is because it's so less remarkable than portal (which, I still believe, should definitely be marked down for its lack of longevity).
I loved the actual cod representing CoD btw.

Just to show what a rock star he is, he visited Valve and Gabe didn't eat him. He's a lucky fool.
