Our friend Spencer from
Siliconera laments over the strange pricing of Sony's
echochrome. The title will be available in Japan as a downloadable PS3 title (via PSN) and as a stand-alone UMD game on PSP. We can understand why the PSP version would be more expensive (it costs money to print those discs!), but the price difference is quite staggering. "A physical UMD disc for the PSP costs 3,980 yen ($37) while the downloadable PlayStation 3 edition only costs 1800 yen ($17)."
Other than having an inverted color scheme, no differences between the two have been announced. Hopefully, if SCEA decides to pick up the PSP version, they'll do the smart thing and release it on the PLAYSTATION Store (for the cheap!).
Update: Apparently, the UMD version of
echochrome contains two times the levels as the PS3 version. At least you're getting your money's worth!

Yeah, that way no one will be able to play it on their PSP. The PLAYSTATION Store sucks, pure and simple. Why they don't let you have a wallet and download straight to the PSP is beyond me.

looks like they wont be delling any copies of the UMD version thats for sure. I wouldnt pay $37 for this game.

Sony. If you want me to buy this game, you will cut the price to $29 or $19 bucks. At $37 dollars, I can get a used "next-gen" game. And I'm looking forward to this game, so make it happen. I mean, you did it with Patapon, why not this?

How this can sell for more than Patapon is beyond me :) I agree that this should appear as a pure download with a pure download price tag.

LMAO $37 for this games? i was looking forward to it but i dont pay 37 dollar for pencil drawings and stick figures. not even silent hill cost that much. oh well.

I'll be getting this for PS3 anyways because it's SIXAXIS controlled and I'd like to see how that works.
