PS3 responsible for Turok delay

We're expecting Sony to receive a nice "Thankyou!" hamper from Turok's developers any time now. All joking aside though, with the amount of games that were released during the last quarter of 2007, especially shooters, Turok would've been swallowed up and ignored. No doubt the game is receiving far better sales now than it could have in November, considering it has the entire month of February to itself with regards to the first person shooter market. Epic have gone on record to say that the engine is now fully optimised for the PS3 (and has been since UTIII was released, so this should be the last delay of this type that we see. Hopefully.

I totally agree; I made it to the "stealth" portion of the game, got caught, and died quickly. The fact that the PS3 caused a delay is irrelevant to me.

I thought the demo was alright. Kinda fun for an FPS. To be fair I'm not into FPS's that much right now, they all blend together except TF2. I thought Halo 3 was pretty weak, especially for all the hype. But anyway, on topic I thought Turok was mildly entertaining. I liked stabbing stuff and sneaking around with the bows.
I'm not surprised that they delayed it to polish the PS3 version. The demo looks pretty good for a cross-plat. A hell of a lot better than Conan, that's for sure.

I thought the idea of me fighting dinosaurs would be awesome but i guess not. I played it for I think 2-4 mins when you first encounter the dinosaurs and deleted it in the next 15 seconds.

Im so high... but if Developers started their builds on the PS3, they would surpass 360 by a long shot. Multiplatform games are started on the 360 and then are ported to the PS3. Games that are developed using the PS3, such as The Getaway 3, Eight Days, Killzone 2, ect. The true power of PS3 will start to emerge. Right now the PS3 is only using the same power that the 360 has, yet the 360 has been out for a year longer and the ps3 is at par, close to surpassing, and it still has another year to have the same release time, same amount of time for the developers to understand the dev kits as the 360 developers have already had.

I don't understand why companies release these finger-pointing comments out onto the net. Do they enjoy starting fanboy flame wars just because they have the power to? Why is it absolutely necessary to know that the PS3 was the reason behind the delay of Grand Theft Auto 4 and Turok? What good does it do me? Am I supposed to feel guilty because I was planning on picking up the PS3 version or something? I was especially pissed off by Rockstar's confession, considering GTA4's importance to the PS3's library. They might as well have said "It was the PS3's fault that Xbox 360 owners had to wait for this game, when they could have gotten it on October 16th 2007. So if you know someone who was going to get the PS3 version, bash them into the dirt."

Well actually if it wasn't for the 360 we would be playing this on the PS2/Cube/Xbox. Competition is good though if it wasn't for that console makers wouldn't be willing to operate at a loss I bet it would be at least another year or 2 before Sony Justified an upgrade. Its not a suprize that the PS3 version took longer to code everyone has said it, it's more unique hardware that requires way different design philosophy's a weakness and a strength.
But regardless the game demo was not that great may rent it to give it a better chance. But I think its best it was delayed cause had it came out for end of last year it would have been completely lost anyway in the glut of great games.

I agreed with some of you here saying the gameplay sucks, because it for sure does. The slow controls, the bad combat system and so on got me to delete the demo as well.
The graphics and frame rate wasn't what I expected either, and that's why I BLAME Propaganda Games for... it's not the PS3 fault, it's THEIR fault for being cheap and not recruiting enough PS3 developers and/or push enough money into the project.
They could have hired a couple of Sony engineers and got their game title working rapidly fast. Too bad they choose the WRONG platform. Now all kiddies in the US will just download Turok and burn it for their X360, while they could have produced a GOOD game for the PS3 and made LOADS of money from it...

I think even if the UE3 engine is fully optimised, we will still see these kind of statements. It is just easier to point the blame on the PS3 than to blame yourself for the delays even though the PS3 might not be the problem.

It's called a SPE. Learn how to use one and maybe, just maybe(Definitely), you dev's will not have performance issues. If you are not going to use the PS3 how it's made, then why bother?

Ok this fanboy crap is stupid, somethings are just truths and need to be said. Im far from a fanboy and bought all 3 nex-gen systems as any REAL gamer will, im not waiting for any game to decide for me. But somethings I saw were just what your average 13-14 year old "fanboys" say about "their" system and they need to stop you just make yourself look stupid. Did you ask your parents if you could get on the internet first? Does Sony or MS pay you for your thoughts? I didnt think so.
The one thing that really comes to mind for the PS3 is
"They havent fully used the PS3 power" or "If they used the PS3 as lead it will blow the 360 away". Now heres where thats just all wrong. The GPU (RSX) was nothing more then an Nvidia 7800 and trust me has been WELL used. You must face the fact that the RSX is nothing more then your basic GPU NOW and the Cell can only do so much. Im so sick of everyone thinking that the Cell is some magical alien technology that if you pair a beer can with it, it will turn it into a fighter jet. Face it the PS3 has limits and one of those is not the 360 its the RSX.
Another common "fanboy" comment is "The 360s DVDs are to small and now PS3 owners are suffering cause we have Blu-Ray and have unlimited space". Ok that statement is so wrong, why is it that COD4 came out on PS3, 360, and PC but was the same? Last time I looked my 300 gig HDD was 10x bigger than a BR. Time to realize that developers are trying to make games to be realeased to make money, not to make a game that lasted 2 years and took 7 years to make, all due to the simple fact that there is more space.
One major thing "fanboys" want to believe is that last gen the Xbox came out a year later, and people saw a BIG difference in terms of Graphics. Well now the PS3 comes out and was claimed to be superior, but time after time post after post you are constently defending your system. Some truths that fanboys dont want to believe but have to is this. The 360's GPU (Xenos) is better then the RSX, BUT 360 "fanboys" the Cell is undeniably better then the 360 CPU (Xenon). I mean can you even begin to think of a Cell powerd handheld yummy. IIRC the PS3 was gonna have a 2 Cell set-up one for Graphics and one as the CPU but, Sony decided against it in favor of a more common GPU cause it would be a nightmare, which thank God they did as all your "fanboy" comments could be right.
But one thing I think most "fanboys" wont admit about the 360 is that the GPU on THAT system is actually not fully being used. IMO the Xenos and the PS2's GPU (Emotion Engine) are so close in design its scarry. And if you look at what the PS2 did just these last yeasrs is just amazing (God of War for example).
Now you can call me an idiot or comment on everything I said but I dont care. If your a true gamer you have all 3 systems if you dont its your problem not mine cause ill be playing Super Smash Bros, Halo 3, MGS4, Bioshock, FFXIII, and GTA4.
Oh just one more thing to think about all 3 of my systems sit right next to each other and dont fight so why do we?

Close to surpassing? It already has surpassed. The X360 can't do games like R&C: Future and Uncharted, and MGS4 Konami says would be nearly impossible to port over (too complex).
This is the year of the PS3, most of the delays are behind us, and all of the huge games are due this year. It's a good time to be a gamer no matter what platform you own though.

Nice flame, but unfortunately, lacking in facts. Konami HAS said that the X360 can't handle MGS4 if they plan on doing a 1 to 1 port at some point in the future. Don't even get me started with storage space either. Uncharted probably wouldn't work on the X360 either. These aren't "who owns the IP" problems, these are technical problems that aren't easily solved without getting poor results.

Uuuh, yeah we all know the 360 hasnt reached it's full potential whatever that full potential may be, but the point you forget is that the 360 now what what devs call its 2nd gen games (having gotten familiar with it's hardware) have a very minut measure of edge by simple pixel sharpness (in the sense of multiplatform games;in some cases even this is no longer an issue) over the PS3's first gen games.
In that same respect we dont know what the PS3 is fully capable of either and you cant forget that this is brand new technology that has to be tried and tested . Ask your self, why do automanufacturers make cars? they believe their model is better, what they have inisde the car and under the hood. If they believe that another car is better than their model why put it on the market?
This sounds like nintendo doesnt it? But this even includes Nintendo. They believe the Wii has something much better than what the other two consoles are offering.
I think in a case like this you have to look at Microsoft's exclusives compared to Sony's exclusive. Judge by graphics. When you look at what the PS3 is putting out right now at this minute in a concentrated development you cant deny the differences.
Some developers have even stated that because of the similiarities of the 360 and PC coding it's easier to develop ports for it. I deduce this would also work in the from scratch development.
So taking that into account it's like comparing a new born to a 5 year old. Being angery and yelling at a baby that was just brought into the world to walk and speak properly then saying "look at that five year old, they can do it already".
If that analogy sounded obsurd to you then good, it's the same way people stating that, "As good as sony claims the PS to be it should be looking good NOW."
When developers have had little time to fully optimize this new technology to some degree. Sony's 1st party games (and even a few third party devs i.e. Konami, NamcoBandai, SquareEnix, NaughtyDog) Have been very successful in bringing out what strength they can with this new hardware thus far.
Certainly neither the PS3 or the 360's visuals are going to get any worse, only get better. But the question is where do the limits fall for each system? Sony seems to have prepared themselves for a long run while I believe M$ is trying to make their market penetration go as far as it can for the hardware they are working with. The 360 isnt really lacking in any Unf, but neither is the PS3.
