amazon.com does another Blu-ray sale
It's been a while since amazon.com has assaulted our wallets with a Blu-ray sale. Unfortunately, it looks like they're up to their money-draining schemes again. This Buy 2, Get 1 Free deal isn't as sweet as their holiday BOGO offers, but for those that are newly building their Blu-ray collection, this will certainly fit the bill. Buyers should be confident knowing that Blu-ray is the format of the future. Heck, both Netflix and Best Buy agree.
Our recommendations from this sale? Pick up Blade Runner (Five-Disc Complete Collector's Edition) for $28. Or, one of the Harry Potter movies.

I don't get why Blu-ray holds 50gb of data but Blade Runner is on 5 discs? The reason I went with Blu-ray was because of the amount of storage and the hope that even with HD graphics we could get away with multi-discs once and for all. The movie plus all the extra content of previous DVD's on 1, that's what I want.

Forr spiderman the high definition trilogy i asked myself the same thing.
Kabapu @ Feb 12th 2008 10:22PM
... Yeah ... what's the story on the five discs. I can understand the Spider-Man Trilogy as simply repackaging the movies as a set, but for just Blade Runner with extra features? This seems a little extreme.
why not the LS2/LS7? @ Feb 13th 2008 1:14AM
That's a good question, especially since it is 5 single-layer discs. Why not 3 double-layer discs? To make people think they are getting a better value than they are?
The "final cut" version of the movie is alone one one single-layer disc, while the theatrical release, directors cut and international release version all have to split 25GB. The "workprint" version (which suffers from poor quality unfinished source materials) gets its own 25GB, as do two separate discs of extras.
Maybe this is all because the disc layouts were preserved on HD-DVD, and so it has 5 dual-layer discs? I mean, putting 3 movies on one 15GB single-layer HD-DVD would be pretty ugly.
If I were laying this out and it were BluRay only, I guess I'd put the director's cut, workprint and two release versions on one dual-layer disc. I'd put the extras on one dual-layer disc, and I'd put the final cut on one disc, preferably dual-layer.

Not sure if anybody posted this one, but I saw this deal on highdefdigest.com. Some good deals on new discs from half.com http://movies.products.half.ebay.com/_W0QQfmtZbluQ2drayQQsortZ88QQsoZ1

$27.99 is not a deal. I got my 5-disc Blade Runner collection for $30. Each disc has different things on it. The first blu-ray disc contains the remastered final cut. There is another blu-ray disc and I think it has the original movie with all the different international "cuts". The other 3 discs are DVDs. One contains interviews with the director. I am too lazy to go check exactly what each disc contains but if anyone would like me to check, reply to this comment and I would be glad to check.
why not the LS2/LS7? @ Feb 13th 2008 1:16AM
If $28 isn't a good deal, then you really got ripped off.
BTW, I paid $28 for the collection.
yomama07024 @ Feb 13th 2008 7:11AM
@why not the LS2/LS7?
I said I paid $30. That is the normal price which is actually pretty cheap because it has multiple blu-ray discs included. A movie on blu-ray usually costs about $30. The point of me saying that $28 is not a deal is because that is the normal price of the thing and Amazon is not giving a discount. They just want to make it look like it.

I looked at the list on amazon.com and did not see the Blade Runner set as one of the Buy 2 Get 1 Free deals. Amazon does have the Blade Runner Blu-ray 5 disc collection for $27.95 though which I guess is a pretty good price.
