Sony sells 1 million PS3s in United Kingdom

Who ever said the PlayStation 3 was in trouble? Well, for those of you who subscribe to that line of thought only need to keep reading because you'll see why you're wrong. Sony has announced that it has sold more than one million PS3s in the United Kingdom. What makes this feat even more impressive, especially to the naysayers, is that Sony reached the milestone faster than it did with the PlayStation 2, which took 50 weeks to hit the mark.
Sure, some might sum this up to the video game industry becoming more popular throughout the world, but if Sony can keep up this momentum, it's possible that EA's prediction of the PS3 overtaking the Xbox 360 in worldwide sales could come to pass.

The PS3 is catching up!!
Jay @ Feb 13th 2008 12:06PM
And, more importantly (and noteworthy) nearly three months quicker than the 360.....
Tranando @ Feb 13th 2008 7:09PM
Don't forget, 360 took 60 weeks, with a MARKET TO ITSELF.
PS3 did it 3 months quicker, whilst fighting with 360 and Wii for sales..
I think that clearly puts anyone's Xbot claims of PS3 not selling in the firmly in the Microsoft book of fairy tales.

Now now, lets not become consoletarded please..We should just rejoice these excellent sales and expect a good future for the ps3.

This one is a tad bit better.

But completely irrelevent to the discussion at hand. This blog entry is comparing PS3 sales to the PS2s and to the 360s, which my chart does and yours does not.
It's a well known fact that the Wii is pwning all competition, you don't need to cry every time someone neglects to mention the obvious.

I like this one:

To not be a goof, good work PS3. Keep it up.
Popfrogs @ Feb 13th 2008 2:30PM
@Hyams: This is apples to apples with the PS3 thrown in for good measure:

Hyams @ Feb 13th 2008 2:42PM
Yeah, that chart is better than JerJerBinks's. But again, the Wii isn't relevant to this PARTICULAR discussion (we're comparing PS3 to PS2 to 360) so it still doesn't quite work.
JerJerBinks @ Feb 13th 2008 5:15PM
Yeah so, I dont have a Wii, and you sir are a perfect example of John Gabriel's most famous theory.

Ummm, yeah Kthx4playing.

I didn't realise you had such thin skin. If I offended you so much, then I give you my apologies.
Phoenix8387 @ Feb 13th 2008 12:12PM
Congrats to Sony on this one. The PS3 is definitely beginning to gain some ground.
The only country who doesn't seem to be adopting the PS3 at an ever increasing rate is the US. Could be having something to do with M$ propaganda thats been going around quite some time.
brettjr @ Feb 13th 2008 12:24PM
Well US has something with Microsoft and PC gaming so Xbox still standing strong and if you compare USA only Xbox vs PS3 stats I don't see Sony possibly taking over Xbox or even catching up in America.
But the thing is in the EU and Asia the other places in the world the PS3 is doing a lot better then Xbox 360. Xbox wont sell at all in japan and PS3 have been outselling xbox for months and months in the UK. Those two territories will probably give Sony the overall boost to match microsoft numbers.
ComicShaman @ Feb 13th 2008 12:42PM
Now if they could prevent retailers from adding a ridiculous "PS3 tax" to multiplatform releases like Devil May Cry 4 in the UK, that would be excellent.
Steve Childs @ Feb 14th 2008 3:10AM
I know what you mean, one shop was selling Burnout for £5 more on the PS3 than 360. So I went to Asda and got it for £39! A full £10 less than Game
Livi70590 @ Feb 14th 2008 2:37AM
And then you go on to GAME's website and that's a tenner cheaper than store.
Xiru @ Feb 13th 2008 1:04PM
Yes the Wii is beating them both but who cares? Its not a real gaming machine. Its targetted at casuals, which has HUGE market as we've all seen. When the blockbuster games start moving to Wii and getting good reviews, then I will consider it more than a toy. Right now the battle is between the 360 and the PS3 for true gamers. And I choose PS3. :)
Popfrogs @ Feb 13th 2008 2:32PM
I totally agree. The attach rate with the Wii is so bad nobody but Nintendo will make games for it. Just like the Gamecube.
Alien @ Feb 13th 2008 1:34PM
Great news for the PS3 :)
Dahk @ Feb 13th 2008 2:40PM
"We should drop canvas, Sir."
"She can hold a bit longer."
"What's in your head, Captain, that puts you in such a fine mood?"
"We're catching up!"
Byron517 @ Feb 13th 2008 3:56PM
All HANDS ON DECK SIR!!! READY TO ARMS!! LMAO Awesome comment!!!
The Sound @ Feb 13th 2008 4:01PM
A whole 13 weeks faster than teh 360?
Holy sh!t Batman!
George Arauz @ Feb 13th 2008 4:04PM
I love my PS3 and my 360.... hell and my Wii... But lets face it.. I want to see sales in the USA go up.. not stinky Europe. The developers look at mostly USA sales rather than European ones.
parkd @ Feb 13th 2008 7:07PM
Not really. EA's been noticing the ps3's worldwide sales.
dartmerc @ Feb 13th 2008 7:48PM
George Arauz why do you think that? I'd look at worldwide sales while possibly looking at japan individually for some types of games rather specific to them.
dartmerc @ Feb 13th 2008 7:41PM
JerJerBinks is an idiot.
