Mein Bratwurst @ Feb 14th 2008 5:15PM
And still no Theme Hospital here in the US. Sigh.
Ishimaru @ Feb 14th 2008 5:16PM
No Minna no Golf 5 demo either :( Guess I'll have to create a Euro account as well.
DMeisterJ @ Feb 14th 2008 5:17PM
All around, okay day, as I finally get the Patapon demo, but for non PSP owners, this update really sucked.
Lars @ Feb 15th 2008 2:11PM
Speak for yourself. You and Jem seem to be on the same page there. I will agree with "sports? yuck!"
New LBP vids are always welcome. Plus some awesome songs for Rock Band! I suppose I'm a bit skewed on that, because my fav genre is punk. I was always a much bigger fan of older Police stuff vs their later junk, and Truth Hits Everybody is an awesome song.
Lars @ Feb 15th 2008 2:15PM
Oh, and seriously?
"The Final Countdown and Don't Stop Me Now"?
God, I think I just threw up a little in my mouth... just at the possibility that could be considered good Rock Band content.
Autopsy15 @ Feb 14th 2008 5:22PM
Yay! LittleBigPlanet content! Anything related to that gets me excited.
Mein Bratwurst @ Feb 14th 2008 5:25PM
Yeah, they need to open public beta already!
Autopsy15 @ Feb 14th 2008 11:25PM
Ahh! I'm dying for that beta to start!
Nate @ Feb 14th 2008 5:24PM
That makes me think.... why can't they have PSP games playable on the PS3? I know the resolution would be crap, but it should be equivalent to what you get with the TV out on the PSP slim? I think that would be pretty cool, and might sell more PSPs.....
TinyTim121 @ Feb 14th 2008 5:30PM
Good point. I remember PS2 Smackdown vs Raw compatible with PSP Smackdown vs Raw. Can't remember what though.
I think PSP to PS3 connectivity would own! I know its already compatible, but playing games and watching movies ect. would be the best.
I know the new PSP slim can play movies on your tv, and that should really have been in the orignal PSP. But why can't you view PSP UMD movies on PS3 via say remote play?
TBH i rarely use my PSP anymore. Only for killzone and GTA really when playing mates. I would love to see a lot more usage though.
Thoas @ Feb 14th 2008 5:29PM
Patapon is the only thing for this psn update worth looking at.
sgthalka @ Feb 14th 2008 5:32PM
Umm ... "sports? Yuck!" .. What are you, four? Baseball diehards have been salivating over this year's version of The Show for months. Even non-sports fans have been giving credit this is one of the best-looking sports games ever created.
Chigthemnky @ Feb 14th 2008 5:41PM
yea but take the roids out and you have no game let
Brett from Atlanta @ Feb 14th 2008 6:04PM
Agreed, just dropped my opinion of Jem down a peg or two. I've been personally looking forward to this for a while. What he needs to realize is that great exclusive sports games like the show bring baseball fans to the ps3 and increase the number of owners. More systems sold equals better games, sports or otherwise. He doesn't have to be a fan of sports games, but that doesn't give him the right to take away from the games credibility as great games and shit all over them. Grow up Jem.
The Sound @ Feb 14th 2008 7:44PM
It's what brought me to get one.
That, and MGS4, LBP, Resistance2, Uncharted, Warhawk and others..
OddyOh @ Feb 15th 2008 5:31AM
Couldn't agree more, wtf! I'm an NHL guy myself, but I'm looking forward to giving The Show demo a spin after hearing all the positive hype...EA could learn a ton from this game!
...That'd be like me saying "WWII-based 3rd person shooters...yuck!" :)
Christian @ Feb 15th 2008 8:13AM
Being European I have to say that I find few things more boring that Baseball and American 'footbal', but MLB 08 The Show looks so good I am for the first time in my life tempted to get a baseball game.
So how anyone could yuck getting a demo of this game is beyond me.
Jem @ Feb 15th 2008 1:55PM
I'm sorry you took offense to my off-the-cuff joke. While I don't enjoy sports games myself, that shouldn't detract from the enjoyment you get from them yourselves.
And seeing as how this update was devoid of interesting content for me, personally, at least all you baseball fans have something to get excited about. All I have is another week of waiting until I get to see something interesting. :)
Phoenix8387 @ Feb 14th 2008 5:36PM
This is a good update for anyone who like Baseball... otherwise Patapon is the only other worthwhile demo. Though the LBP video was a nice touch.
TinyTim121 @ Feb 14th 2008 5:39PM
Just an idea, but why not use the PSP to manage in game messages? So i don't have to quit out of my DMC4 boss battles?
Actually i think i would use that more than the in game XMB perhaps; leave my sleeping PSP by my chair, message comes up saying message recieved, i pause, flick on PSP, read message, reply, unpause and carry on beating the crap out of viper!
ClarkyCat @ Feb 14th 2008 5:40PM
Errr Burnout Accolades trailer?
Joshua @ Feb 14th 2008 5:50PM
"The only playable content is a demo of MLB 08 The Show (sports? Yuck!)."
I agree.
Psy @ Feb 14th 2008 6:05PM
consistent*
Just sayin'.
George Arauz @ Feb 14th 2008 6:08PM
New free stuff is always good.
playcrackthesky @ Feb 14th 2008 6:40PM
I'm from australia and would not have the slightest clue how baseballs works or whatever, but you cant deny the fact it looks great and the fact its an exclusive only helps. I dont know why some here would find it 'yuck'.
So that being said, was the baseballs demo any good?
The Sound @ Feb 14th 2008 7:43PM
Yes.
Game looks incredible, 'specially on a 46inch screen.
It made my father, who isn't too interested in graphics go, 'holy sh!t, look at those graphics!'
russell @ Feb 15th 2008 10:10AM
this game is mind blowing. it's so playable, but at the same time it's challenging, intuitive, and very innovative. there are a ton of controls to learn and lots of little details, so getting into this game is going to be great fun.
warhungry @ Feb 14th 2008 7:06PM
im pretty sure they put up the lost planet demo again.
jq71586 @ Feb 14th 2008 8:01PM
Little impatient much with the Rock Band DLC? I mean geez, it's cheaper and much, much more consistent then GH 2 or 3 DLC ever was or is. While releasing 3 songs a week, at least, they can't please everybody.
There is also tons of work that goes into licensing an entire album to be put into a video game. Patience young grasshopper.
NACHO @ Feb 14th 2008 9:24PM
Anyone know if Twisted Metal:HO is worth $15? Let me know.
mayamayouidiot @ Feb 14th 2008 10:08PM
Why the hell aren't there more comments here raving about the MLB 08 demo? It's effing amazing! The animation is incredibly nuanced, the players are dead-on replicas, and even the crowds look great. As for the gameplay, I'm new to The Show series but I can say with confidence that based on an hour or so playing this, this gives MVP 2005 a run for its money.
russell @ Feb 15th 2008 10:10AM
yep. another great point. the body language and interaction between the players, even between offense and defense (my second baseman gave the runner on 2nd a friendly sort of competitive shove between plays). i love the commentary too, they really pay attention to whats going on. i threw a curve, change up and strike, all 3 balls, and the announcer said "curve, change up and a strike and he just can't get it in the box."
Phizzy @ Feb 14th 2008 10:31PM
I can't say I'm familiar with BASE BALL, but that demo was quite horrible in terms of gameplay.
... Pretty, I suppose. Though it looked like it was rendering in a low resolution and they couldn't be bothered to upscale to full-screen...
russell @ Feb 15th 2008 10:13AM
haha. you just gotta play more baseball games. i think it's hard to make it innovative, and challenging while at the same time making it something that new players can just instantly start playing. it might take some getting used to but it definitely has amazing game play.
B1gC72 - PSN: KillaKornbread @ Feb 14th 2008 11:07PM
i noticed that the Lost Planet demo is back up, not sure when they put it back though.
and dont say "yuck" to MLB 08: The Show, according to the reviews, it's one of the best baseball games ever. i dont even like baseball that much (NFL & NBA 4 me) but im downloading that, the Patapon Demo, and the LBP video this week.
Phizzy @ Feb 15th 2008 12:44AM
This Patapon demo is twice as long as the Japanese version! :-O
I LOVE IT!
John @ Feb 15th 2008 1:11AM
If they added some Electric Six songs, I would buy Rock Band tomorrow.
Little Leaguer @ Feb 15th 2008 3:18AM
For what it's worth, my end score in MLB The Show was 50 to 1. That kind of lopsided score suggests that (a) it's too hard for novices to score against the "home team (50? WTF!) and/or (b) the pitching/batting balance is wonked. In all, it was not that much fun to lose that badly, and I *was* hitting the balls when my team finally made it up to bat. Looks great, though.
Fane @ Feb 15th 2008 1:35PM
The default difficulty setting is Expert (or whatever they call it), but you can change it to Rookie (or two other settings), which makes it playable for a noob (I won my first game, mostly played in Rookie, 2-1 and I've never played any MLB: The Show, though I have 2 PS2 baseball games).
russell @ Feb 15th 2008 10:06AM
OMGz i was 45 mins late to work just so i could play the MLB demo. this game is aaaamaziinnnggg. cannot freaking wait to play the full version. only a few weeks away!
RankHypocrisy @ Feb 15th 2008 10:42AM
You're complaining about the Rock Band DLC being songs from the Clash, the Ramones, and the Police?
Kids these days...
mizzourah slim @ Feb 15th 2008 12:31PM
It's a big world out there Jem, lots of folks with different tastes.
Leave your biases at the door, and you'll garner more respect in your future posts.
I sure would be ticked off if one day they decided 'enough with the ingrates...no soup for you!'
XDragon @ Feb 15th 2008 1:06PM
I feel that our PSN content has been pretty lame lately.
We need more full games to download, even if they are low cost arcade classic ports kinda like the 360 had going on with TMNT and the Contra games.
russell @ Feb 15th 2008 10:13AM
when did pixeljunk racers come out? I just saw it for the first time last night.
russ99 @ Feb 15th 2008 1:36PM
I'm a Show skeptic and big 2K/MVP fan, but I have to say the demo's pretty good. Visually, it's quite amazing. The graphics and animation (amount of different animations too!) is top notch. I wish we could sub or bring in relievers...
The gameplay seems very realistic as well, but I have a few issues:
The baserunning is worse than 2K, and that's saying something. The power swing is darn near useless and I've had the Rox hit 3 inside-the park HRs in 4 games so far. Is there no speed burst for outfielders??
Also the pitching is way too hit or miss, that strike zone is very rigid and especially with men on base it's hard to throw a strike. With variable umps on 2K you can find an area of the strike zone that the specific ump will call even though it's borderline.
Still this is very intriguing and since they made the guess pitch batting optional, I may pick this up.
However, MLB 2K is upgrading visuals as well so I have to say unless 2K really messes things up it should still be my MLB game of choice.
