Dead Head Fred wins Writer Guild's very first game writing award

Now that the writers are back on work (hooray, TV!), it's time to take a moment and reflect on the Writers Guild of America's first ever choice for best video game writing.

The winner? Dead Head Fred for PSP. It's a game that (shamefully) almost no one bought. The more cynical of our readers may be asking, "But why them?" in a year that has so many great options. Mass Effect, Bioshock, Uncharted all come into mind. Well, these awards are limited to members of the WGA's New Media Caucus. Even with the limited candidate pool, this is a great first step for the industry -- we need more video game writers to be recognized for their efforts.

I received this game for Christmas and I must say, this game has a pretty good story. The noir setting makes for intriguing storytelling and Fred is a very likeable character. The only thing I would change is the gratuitous swearing, but maybe it makes sense....the guy has lost his head after all.

Poor Controls

I return the game because I got stuck on the Broken Bridge. Too Bad.

I've been playing this game tons recently, but I doubt I'll finish it. The writing is indeed great, the voice acting is sweet too, but sadly the gameplay and design are what pull this game down. I want to like it, and I hope anyone who has it is having fun, but I can't recommend it.

Personally, I love this game. Sure, it has its flaws, but the great graphics and characters more than make up for it. And yeah, it ain't a simple adventure game; requires patience and exploring, which I like. It's sad that most users aren't risking to try new products, they rather stick to old franchises like God of War and yadda yadda.
It won't come as a surprise when developers just quit trying to make original games and contents.

Dead Head Fred was such an awesome game, I'm pretty glad it won this award. Maybe now it will get the attention it deserves.

Also, it was one of those few games that made me laugh. I especially like the beginning, when he sees his head for the first time.
