FCC report: Sony changing PSP innards

According to documents sent to the FCC on February 14th, it appears as though Sony is attempting to change the specifications of the PSP. The company is requesting a change for "AK8PSP2001." That looks like the PSP-2000 series to us. The document states that "we change parts other than a wireless module. This is not to cause any modification to the mentioned electric characteristics and RF characteristics."

The other documents on the FCC site are rather unhelpful, as they demonstrate the various radio capabilities of the PSP. What changes will be made to the PSP are unclear at the moment, but we'd postulate that these are simple cost-reducing measures, and is not indicative of a new PSP series. Why? Sony would most likely file a new model number altogether in that regard.

We doubt Sony will give specifics regarding this situation, but stay tuned for any new developments.

If this is a change to the wifi card, which the news article doesn't say anyway but still, then I will go ballistic.

Nope...all the tests are in 11.b and it WOULD be a change to the RF characteristics.

Has to be a physical change of some type.

If you read all the docs they are testing 3 different batteries.

If you read the docs, there are 4 battery but they only test one. Hence the astrix in the corner of the top battery.

its probaly some wifi thingy, that when u go online and u have CFW it will brick ur psp, or a pondora blocker because a RF is the only way to stop the pondora battery bussiness The M33 Team is pretty clever to make a battery so useful =).

should have made that clearer: apparently there is a psp2000 motherboard that is immune to pandora-ing, i'm guessing that this filing is directly linked to that. sony want to stop piracy, and that involves stopping the pandora.

and before i get flamed, yes i agree with homebrew and opening the platform, but it's way too easy to get a torrent of a full psp game, copy it to a folder on memstick, and instant free game. so i'm guessing 90% of pandora users are actually pirates.
