Alone in the Dark tech demo shows off lighting, inventory system
While the last Alone in the Dark video seemed to focus less on actual gameplay and more on various methods of chair destruction, this new tech demo video is far more worthwhile. In fact, we'd go so far to say that our anticipation for this game has risen significantly. The lighting looks stunning and the mix-and-match inventory system looks like it could be great fun, especially with the abundant use of sticky tape. We love sticky tape.
The inventory screen looks awesome and finally removes that "so where am I keeping all this junk?" question that pops up in the back of our mind during so many game. It's also nice to see some actual enemies, even if it is from a distance, along with multiple ways to splat them. Alone in the Dark is another game we're picking up from our "Don't Care" pile and sticking firmly on our radar.

Now thats some nice technology that should actually benefit gameplay... Very cool demo.
I was on the fence about this title, thinking it might be a crappy attempt at a money grab using the famous franchise, but seeing stuff like this pushes it up the ladder a couple notches.

exactly, it feels like the thinking man's Silent Resident Evil. : )

seems like the thinking man's Silent Resident Evil Hill. : )
not sure how i feel about the perfect straight line the fluids create when you throw them. but i guess it has to work with the game mechanics.

Yeah, because in Silent Hill you just mash buttons and shout at the television.
ryan @ Feb 17th 2008 7:07PM
why yes, i have found myself mashing on buttons to make a pipe actually cause damage.
i meant a thinking man's survival horror. combine anything for any situation. not just pick up weapon x and kill like said Silent Evil Resident Hill titles.
all titles have puzzles, this one evolves the survival horror aspect.
(and once again, i find myself replying to myself instead of replying to Philly. FIX THIS! it is soo annoying!)

this game has surpassed my expectations, to say the least. It is impressive how you can utilize pretty much anything in the environment.

If the retail matches this gameplay mechanics and more, I think the game industry will evolve to a new standard.
upz @ Feb 17th 2008 10:19PM
Looks good, but the "duct tape fixes everything" play mechanic won't be nearly as deep as this video implies.
