Rumor: Guitar Hero: Aerosmith uses microphone and drum, like a rock band
For music fans, there's only one thing better than Guitar Hero. And that's Rock Band. Well, it looks like Activision isn't going to take this sitting idly by. If Best Buy's description of the upcoming Aerosmith-flavored game is correct, it looks like Guitar Hero will be matching Rock Band feature-for-feature. The text teases: "See if you can drum like Joey Kramer, play guitar like Joe Perry and Brad Whitford, play bass like Tom Hamilton and sing like Steven Tyler." Wouldn't that need a drum, microphone and bass peripheral? Looks like it to us.
Considering how Activision refuses to make Guitar Hero and Rock Band peripherals compatible, it looks like the music game enthusiast will have no choice but to buy yet another set of expensive (and space-wasting) peripherals. We say "boo" to that. But for those that really, really love their Aerosmith, this should be an opportunity of a lifetime. If this rumor is true, of course.

I don't think I'll be getting this. Thats just too much. Having more than one of the toy guitars is okay because you can stow them away easily, but I be damned if I'm going to have a collection of mini drum sets laying around every where.
HaloEleven @ Feb 17th 2008 11:10PM
For $59.99? I doubt it comes with any hardware. It's more likely that they made nice with EA/Harmonix and the RB/GH hardware will be interoperable in the near future
Mike Jenkins @ Feb 18th 2008 4:28PM
But the fact that they couldn't let me use my Rock Band guitar on GH III in the first place wouldn't make me want to buy any more of their garbage. I'll stick with my Rock Band DLC and wait for Rock Band 2, thanks.
HaloEleven @ Feb 18th 2008 5:13PM
I was about to play devil's advocate and ask why gamers aren't giving EA sh*t because Rock Band guitars don't work on GH. Then I read that Activision wouldn't provide Harmonix information required for compatibility. It's just stupid really on Activision's part. Interoperability would only sell more games for everybody. Nobody's going to buy two of everything, and Activision has already missed out on the "band concept". Of course, if they could offer an online band career mode I might have to defect! ;)
why not the LS2/LS7? @ Feb 17th 2008 11:16PM
Screw Activision. They lost all my music game dollars when they pulled this BS with keeping Rock Band from working with GH3 guitars.
parkd @ Feb 17th 2008 11:36PM
Agreed. Activision screwed up.
Haiddasalami @ Feb 17th 2008 11:27PM
sorry Activision you loose my money well because of not letting Harmonix let PS3 owners have the Fender play GH3 and you are know trying to milk me of every cent. May I remind people that another GH is due at the end of the year. sigh*
Chris Rah Osiris @ Feb 18th 2008 12:29AM
Won't be getting this
gdub @ Feb 18th 2008 12:49AM
Yeah, I've had enough of your greed Activision! go suck a bag of d1x
mccomber @ Feb 18th 2008 1:16AM
I'll be sure to add this to the list of things I don't plan to every purchase.
Joe @ Feb 18th 2008 1:36AM
I'm still not THAT big of a fan to get this thing, with or without drums.
adolson @ Feb 18th 2008 9:36AM
I'm holding out until they come out with Guitar Hero: MC Hammer Edition.
HektikLyfe @ Feb 18th 2008 11:47AM
Actually, I hate to be the Devil's Advocate but...
Until I heard this rumor I wasn't interested at all. Hear me out, "read me out."
The Guitar Hero III guitar is leaps and bounds better than the Rock Band guitar...do you see where I am going with this?
If Activision can improve the drums, more power to them. If they can improve the mic, more power to them.
Mike Jenkins @ Feb 18th 2008 4:30PM
Says you. I as well as several of my friends prefer the Rock Band guitar over the GH III guitar and the Rock Band guitar has many more features too. If anything Activision would just be copying Harmonix at this point, unless they add strings there isn't much more you can add to a plastic guitar.
John @ Feb 18th 2008 4:47PM
What a joke. The guitar hero guitar is inferior to that of Rock Band, for features, playability, etc. You obviously were planted, by Activision. Good luck.
RSly @ Feb 18th 2008 4:58PM
*Wah* You dont have the same opinion as me so you must but the president of Activision trolling blogs! *Wah*
The GH guitar is better than the Rock Band guitar IMO, and in Activisions opinion too because thats the only reason that they are blocking the functionality for Rock Band
John @ Feb 18th 2008 4:43PM
Not worth it for Aerosmith or for Guitar Hero's subpar graphics which Rock Band beats hands down. But it might be worth it if their kick drum is better than Rock Band's. Mine broke, as did those of many others, and I am currently researching a kick-drum practice-pedal and Radio-shack fix.
linebeginstoblur @ Feb 18th 2008 6:08PM
So it wasn't enough for Activision to buy the Guitar Hero series from Harmonix, but now they want to try to copy Harmonix's current project? Reminds me of how much I hate to hear Activision boast about GH sale numbers, because the only reason it's as popular as it is is because of the original Harmonix games. Had it started with Activision... wait... they never would have started something like that.
I haven't bought a Guitar Hero game before, but I had wanted to. Now that this childish rivalry is going on, in addition to the fact that, in the future, any GH/RB game will require $200+ of instruments just to play, I have been completely turned off. Harmonix, just go make another Amplitude, okay?
Adam mock @ Mar 1st 2008 1:18PM
guys come on, I love guitar hero and rock band, but just cause a freaking rb guitar instrument doesnt work on a seprate game doesnt matter i mean honestly who gives a shit? I will get Guitar hero:Aerosmith when it comes out just mabe not with another guitar, cause i love the game and always will, so something like this shouldnt stop me.
Ryan @ Apr 8th 2008 7:34PM
Ok all im hearing about this is GH vs. RB ok so hear me out i have rockband and gh 1 and gh 2 also gh 3 so as you can see i love guitar hero rockband may have drums guitar mic bass and what i thought to be amazing game play but when i got it i feel as if i was gyped of $160 ok so rockband has awesome graphics and sweet solo buttons but Guitar hero just blows me away with its game play and i also would like my RB guitar to work with GH Aerosmith which i do plan on getting but if it doesn't i'll work a little longer and get an extra 40 or 50 dollars it doesn't take much to get that kind of money . So this what i've come up with
Rock Band
Pros-Cool "Band Concept"
I like the varity of instruments
Cool guitar with the solo buttons
Amazing Graphics
and i like the creat a character.
Cons-A little sketchy on the strum bar
all the instruments in one room is a little tight of a fit
Kick pedal is quite defective (break wise i mean)
and play list could be better
Expensive
Guitar Hero 1, 2, 3
Pros-Love the gameplay
somewhat good graphics
also like the smaller guitar and easier buttons
Easier gameplay (i mean better hammer ons and pull offs)
More Challenging songs
Good complex guitar battles
Cheap
compact
Cons-No solo buttons on guitar
i wouldn't mind seeing some drums
no create a character
So heres my verdict- RB 5 pros to 5 cons GH 8 pros to 3 cons i gotta say if you look at it i think GH beats RB sorry to all you RB fans i mean i do like it but not as much as GH thats my opinion hope it helped
Sincerely,
Ryan H
