Rumor: In-game XMB done, Home on its way?

Aren't rumors exciting? They serve to raise your expectations, then dash them when you discover it was all a ruse some chump thought up in a fit of boredom. Before you run around claiming this story circulating the web as fact, let us tell you it's a complete rumor at this point and should only be recognized by a subtle nod if the rumor becomes truth. The rumor? In-game XMB is done and Home is very, very near completion.

In addition to that, it's being said that the in-game XMB will be used for all future titles and will be patched into old games via an update. We'll find out after GDC and the next PS3 firmware update, we guess. Until then, it's anyone's guess.

But In Game XMB isn't that huge except for replying to messages.
Music and all is nice but your custom soundtracks may or may not blend in well with the game.

i want in-game XMB mostly for messaging. only game i wanted custom soundtracks on were burnout. and maybe devil may cry 4.wonder if its possible for the internet browser in game. that would be cool

but home i cant wait for.

imagine u been stuck in a part and then pausing, going to google or wherever and then readin the walktrough! you can cheat your way trough a game real easly!

I use the official forums and am a frequent contributer as of late in the Home board. While it is true the dev kit got an update, most of the other stuff mentioned in theses reports have been largely misconstrued.

"Largely misconstrued." Nice use of big words, but how so? You didn't qualify your statement. You're supposed to say something like, "From my experience, on such-and-such a date, development was this far along, so it is unlikely, based on such-and-such variables (you supply them) that this rumor is true. Since you didn't do that, you haven't given us anything. You could have made this up. Which I know you didn't. But you have to backup your statements if you want people to actually accept your information.

The report for dbtechno doesn't seem to be too much off from what I have read, though it does mention that all older games will be patched for ingame-xmb which was never said in the thread. While quite a few others like QJ.net took it to a new level, all from a single forum post at which the creator said he could not guarantee the accuracy of the statements.

But the article didn't state where this rumor was from (which lends great mystery, yes). I don't know about in-game music-- it's cool and all, but now I have to bother about getting stuff on my already almost-max'd out hard drive (I know, I know, install another, said the brother). They can patch this into old games via an update? Any old games? That's pretty amazing. We shall see.

I doubt it unless they can find a way to keep you signed in when you play a PS1/PS2 game. Right now it signs you out of PSN when you start any PS2 game. Can't tell you about PS1 games since I've never tried.

The reason for this is probably similar to the 360 - because some old games have PSN access, so then the two would clash if you signed in on the PS3 and then the games PSN

I knew something was up in HOME as this past week when I went online to test I noticed the time in transitioning from different places sped up something fierce, now instead of a loading taking about 10-15 sec, it was like 2-3 sec, seemed like it was near completion for me :)

PS3 is the system of this generation. I'm glad 360 and Wii are winning temporarily, it will make Sony bring out its big guns and crush them all once again. :) Sony was getting lazy with the PS2, now that there is competition, the PS3 is turning out to be the greatest system ever. Highly reliable(1-3% failure rate), newest technology(Blu-Ray), superior online service (HOME), Best exclusives (FF13, MGS4, GT5, LittleBigPlanet, etc...) The only downfall is that is this highest priced system, but you get what you pay for. I do believe these rumors to be true. I read the original thread today at work and the guy who posted it is very honest and says the person who told it to him would have no reason to lie and that he doesn't know if its 100% true but that he believes him.

Everyone keeps talking about the higher price for the ps3 but you forget to take into account the fact that if you own an xbox you will have ot pay $100 to get it fixed. Trust me I know from personal experience so when you add in the extra cost of the repairs the xbox 360 is more expensive.

Sounds promising!

The guy who took a photo(shop) on the TV should really try to get a better camera and focus before telling us this. Perhaps even a video.
