Universal officially announces swap to Blu-ray
We know - for the last few days we've been more like "Blu-Ray Fanboy" than "PS3 Fanboy". You can't really blame us, though. Today is a big day for the High-Def DVD industry and one of the PS3's main selling points is Blu-Ray playback. So, with that said, we'll continue to cover the various announcements and industrial tectonic plate-shifting that occurs after an announcement like this morning's.
Craig Kornblau, President of Universal, has made a public statement in which he says "The path for widespread adoption of the next-generation platform has finally become clear. While Universal values the close partnership we have shared with Toshiba, it is time to turn our focus to releasing new and catalog titles on Blu-ray." There are currently no specific titles or dates mentioned, but a more detailed announcement is expected to come before too long. Any specific titles you'd be happy to see announced off the bat?
Can't be long now before Paramount does the same. We'll let you know as soon as it happens.

"...one of the PS3's main selling points is Blu-Ray playback"
You should edit that out to avoid major flaming from certain fanboys.
motorer @ Feb 19th 2008 6:17PM
word. i bought my ps3 to play games. blu ray movies are just a really really big bonus - not a main feature for me or lots of other gamers out there.
Mikezula @ Feb 19th 2008 6:57PM

OAKside @ Feb 19th 2008 6:28PM
I am not a big fan of any of the studios on Blu-ray's side (personally, I can't even find a must-own BD release), but bringing these last three studios on-board with quality releases like Zodiac, Transformers, Children of Men, American Gangster, and a majority of my favorites on DVD seals the deal. A shame it took the complete death of HD DVD (and a long time) to do so, but Sony and Blu-ray are looking better than ever.

I'm not huge into buying movies but now that Blu-ray is the new standard I can feel confident in building a modest film library to complement my HDTV and PS3
usagi704 @ Feb 19th 2008 7:17PM
Bring me the Back to the Future trilogy!
bs6268d @ Feb 19th 2008 7:22PM
hell ya and American. Gangster
P @ Feb 19th 2008 7:24PM
There isnt anything specific i'd list that i want, but simply the fact that whenever theres a decent film released, the fact that you wont have to start checking if its on the Blu-Ray or HD-DVD list, it'll just be nice to not have to worry about stupid things like this.
Theres tons of films i'd love on Blu-Ray, but most i'll already own on DVD so they'll just have to wait for special offers i guess.
Ben @ Feb 19th 2008 7:53PM

I'm holding out for Transformers 4 on HVD!
ryan @ Feb 20th 2008 4:12PM
that will be a long time before that is even available for personal use...
pingzing @ Feb 19th 2008 10:32PM
HVD....sure thing, you have $15,000 burning a hole in your pocket? I know people have tax refunds coming back reletively soon but between that and pimping yourself out to 15 fat chicks/dudes for $1,000 a piece, there aren't that many ways to come up with that kind of "money to blow" (pun intended)
John @ Feb 19th 2008 11:39PM
