Logitech has today unveiled the Logitech Driving Force GT, the "official wheel of
Gran Turismo". Available in May in both America and Europe, the completely over the top (but totally cool) steering wheel will retail for $149.99. There's no suggested European price, but don't expect it to be much less than £100. It'll be totally worth it according to Logitech's Director of Marketing, Ruben Mookerjee, who says that "with the Logitech Driving Force GT, you're not playing games anymore – you're racing!" Hilarious!
The Driving Force GT is built especially for
Gran Turismo 5 and
Prologue, but will also work great with
Gran Turismo 3 and
4 on the PS2. It has full force-feedback support and if you want to see what the wheel looks like from all sides, be sure to check out our gallery below. We'll have some hands-on impressions up for you from GDC before too long.

What is that piece of plastic coming out of the bottom that goes towards the ground? What is that for? How do you keep the steering wheel in your lap and does this come with pedals?

The piece of plastic is designed to go inbetween your thighs to prevent the wheel from coming out of your lap.
There are differences between GT5 and GT: Prologue
One is called Gran Turismo 5: Prologue which is a taster for the big Gran Turismo 5 game. Think of it as a big demo. The second is the big game Gran Turismo 5, which will be a finished game, much bigger than GT5: Prologue.

Dude, the plastic piece attaches the wheel to a table.
That's why it has 'teeth' on top, a lot of wheel do that. It sucks when the wheel is loose on the table.

Will there be someway to hold the wheel in between your thighs? I don't play at a table. Or do you need a table to play with a wheel? Never used one before except at like arcades

The thick hooked pieces of plastic attach it to a table top. The thin piece of plastic that looks like an antenna is the cord, they just cropped the rest of it out.
It doesn't have lap use facilities. Logitech will sell you a wedge you clamp the wheel to to use it in your lap, but honestly at that point, don't bother, just use a regular controller.

There is a difference between Gran Turismo 5 and Prologue? I thought it was one game named Gran Turismo: Prologue. Can someone please explain to me?

G25 looks way better but is more $
THis has no clutch pedel and not H pattern shifting. Which GT5P totally support.

Geeze I should have spell checked it before I sent it.
I have a G25 and GT5P so yes I can confirm clutch pedel usage and H-pattern shifting works. Also the G25 shifter is not attached to the wheel so it can be mounted better.
This is probably ok but if you have the $ the G25 kicks its butt.

How come no paddle shifters on the sides of the wheel? I mean, if your going to make a game that emulates real life, then why not make a steering wheel that emulates real life. Also Logitech could have went the extra distance and built in a LCD panel that can be used as an in-car audio system allowing you to access your PS3 music from the steering wheel. I mean again, if your going for reality you might as well include all the distractions found in today's cars. Finally, where is the cup holder, FTW!

Look at picture 5. There is a small button on the back of the wheel that says "L1" on it. There is another on the other side that says "R1". These are the equivalent to paddle shifters. This is the same as the GT4 wheel, and they actually work very well, except when you wrap the wheel up so far you have to remove your hands from it (in which case you can use the bump shifter).
They're not as real as paddles, but they work very well and can be pressed very rapidly for repeated fast shifting without taking your hands off the wheel.

Yeah, this looks to me like an overhaul of the Driving Force Pro wheel, and the price seems to indicate that is likely the case.
If I'm correct in my assumptions, then yes, this will have 900 degree steering. And since they don't have a gated shifter, I'm guessing that there won't be a clutch either.
The adjustment dial seems like a nifty feature though. I'd like to see how that's implemented in the game.

nope. if you look at photos 4&6 in the gallery, you can see that the wheel and pedals both have cords at the back of them.

This doesn't really seem to add much more to the GT4 Driving Force Pro. If you want a good wheel for a better price pick that one up. Works great with the PS3 and supports force feedback and rumble.
The G25 is kick ass but it costs twice as much. Better pedals but how much are you really willing to pay. Some people have mouted this damn thing to a real car dashboard and placed the shifter and pedals where they really would be.
