You thought you heard the last of
Lair, didn't you? While at GDC, a man we will call DugBuzz, states in his
IGN blog, seeked out the Factor 5 booth and played around with their new build of
Lair that incorporated an analog function. He made a comment about the guy who reviewed the game on IGN after playing the new version: "
Greg needs to give them a new score. It was kind of clear that Factor 5 put in the extra effort a little begrudgingly, but the results were amazing. This might push me over the edge into the "must buy PS3" territory."
So there you have it. If you haven't played Lair, or rented it and had a bad taste in your mouth, should this analog patch (which also might fix other things -- just an assumption) come out, we'll let you know. It's then your call whether or not to try it out again, but if this guy has decent tastes, it might just make a potentially great game great. Get it?

I am one of the few who actually liked Lair and really thought the controls were good. If this will help sales then it's good news to me because I would love a sequel from the same team.

same here, I loved this as one of my first introductions to using the SIXAXIS on the PS3 fully in a game, and not just a small game like flOw or Super Rub-A-Dub. But if this pulls some people off the fence to try out or even buy the game then good for Factor5.
Phileoca @ Feb 23rd 2008 7:29PM
same here. The only people who hated the controls were people that suck. I Love Lair.

Hey, the controls pissed me off, but I liked it. If there is analog though, I might have some dust cleaning to do.
Rowdehaj @ Feb 25th 2008 3:53AM
You *had* to ruin a perfectly good string of praise for a generally unloved game with a fanboy statement like that?
tyba @ Feb 23rd 2008 2:42PM
This is really pretty big for me. I was so pumped for Liar when I bought my PS3, but once I heard it was pretty much a waste with the control scheme I passed. I'm sure there will be plenty of reviews once the patch drops, if it's considered to be a large improvement I'll definitely buy this game.
Has a game ever had a 100% total sales increase 9 months after it's release date?
Daniel @ Feb 23rd 2008 2:50PM
same here. Sounds cool, I was hoping this would happen. :)
Quantum @ Feb 23rd 2008 2:47PM
i was never interested in Lair because of its poor reviews.
I don't know if there is going to be a re-review or something but i hope there is so i can get a better insight to the game and see if its worth buying.

Just saw this game from start to end on GameplayHD on satellite. It actually seemed like a good game, good voice acting, decent story- only thing bad were the transitions in animation. Whoever was playing it didnt have a problem with the motion controls. Id probably rent it when the patch drops.
Rival Of The SilverFox @ Feb 23rd 2008 3:13PM
One thing for sure, people are going to Gamefly the hell out of this game when the patch drops.
sean @ Feb 23rd 2008 4:09PM
i was just thinkin the same thing. lol
xrich @ Feb 23rd 2008 4:20PM
i havent played lair, but i thought that there were more problems than just motion control...(1) i thought the targeting was bad in that it just auto targeted for you which took away player control and made it frustrating to hit specific targets (2) also, alot of people said the gameplay was very shallow and monotonous...not sure if a patch will fix this too...anyway, i was very excited for lair pre-release so i hope this makes the game finally worth buying...
sojojo @ Feb 23rd 2008 6:54PM
I'd buy Lair now if they released the patch.
I've never found the PS3 controller's motion control to be very good in any game and I stayed away from Lair because it only used motion control.
Because of this rumor, I'm pretty excited. I think Lair would be a great game with analog controls.
jonondaspot @ Feb 23rd 2008 5:00PM
Controls confirmed

Random1448 @ Feb 23rd 2008 5:12PM
There's nothing wrong with the controls, if you have problems with controls it's most likely because your trying to use it like a Wiimote. The game is just kind of repetitive is what the problem is.
Dahk @ Feb 23rd 2008 6:25PM
Sweeeet I accidentally have a second copy (cuz I initially bought it, and then my bro bought it for my birthday -_- and never bothered to return it). Now I might actually be able to sell the copy!
Anyone want a brand new shrink wrapped fresh copy by any chance? =P Willing to ship within Canada ahah.
Either than that, I was one who was pretty frustrated by the controls. I hated having to land and hated the imprecision =/ I ... never actually finished it in the end though. Maybe I'll go back and do that if the patch is released lol.
Hope it fixes framerate issues too.
George Arauz @ Feb 24th 2008 7:47AM
NOTHING will make this game much better
drdre74 @ Feb 23rd 2008 8:07PM
I played it at GDC with the new patch. I'll be renting the game off gamefly once the patch comes out to the public. I was never really into the game before all the reviews. But it kinda reminds me of the old Panzer Dragon game on the saturn.
Kevin @ Feb 23rd 2008 10:55PM
Does Lair have an Online Mutliplayer thing? Cause mix Warhawk and dragons!?!?
That would be crazy awesome.
jonondaspot @ Feb 23rd 2008 11:48PM
No. There are Leaderboards but only for SP scores. I never had a problem flying easily and accurately. At least this way people less able to handle the Sixaxis controls will be able to enjoy a really good title.
balaam @ Feb 24th 2008 7:12AM
I might pick it up if the patch turns out well
you can get it for £15 in the UK now

...Nick, you know that "seeked" isn't a real word, right? It's "sought"?
Nick Doerr @ Feb 24th 2008 2:52PM
Hmm, true. Another reason to blame my 3am drinking & blogging habits, I guess!
pixelsword @ Feb 24th 2008 3:53PM
anyone having problems with Lair currently, look at my tutorial on gametrailers (pixelsword) in my blog or 1up.com (pixel_sword) in my blog.
