BBC confirms Motorstorm 2 and comments on mystery 2009 game
In an article entitled "PlayStation bounces back" BBC's editor of their online Technology news index, Darren Waters, reveals why he considers the PS3 to be back on track. Waters has been shown a few exciting projects behind closed doors, including a gameplay demo of Motorstorm 2. No longer set in a desert, the game will feature a "lush island environment, full of interactive vegetation." Not only that, but in response to numerous criticisms leveled at the original Motorstorm, the sequel will have four-player split screen. The game is due out in time for Christmas this year.
Waters was also shown a trailer for Resistance 2, another huge upcoming first party title, which he describes as "epic." We're looking forward to seeing the trailer for ourselves whenever it's released to the pubic. Finally, Waters teases about a game which isn't due out until 2009 and which is shrouded in complete secrecy. It seems to have left him impressed because he states that he "was left speechless. If the footage I was shown truly is 'in game,' as told to me by the Sony PR people, then we could be on the brink of a step change in what games consoles are capable of in terms of story-telling and immersion."
Anyone else got goosebumps right now? It sounds like Sony have got some exciting stuff on the horizon for us. Judging from GDC, however, we need to remain patient for just a little bit more before we become privy to their plans.

4-Player Split Screen!!! I hope this marks a return to split-screen support in PS3 racers!
Nate @ Feb 25th 2008 2:00PM
Yes yes! Please, for god's sake, ANYTHING with multiplayer should have split screen support.
Justin @ Feb 25th 2008 12:42PM
the hype is killing me
ltefoe @ Feb 25th 2008 12:45PM
I can't wait till Motorstorm 2. I am glad that it has split screen.
Organic_Shadow @ Feb 25th 2008 12:46PM
I bet this mystery game is a game we already "know" ABOUT, but don't actually have a lot of info on yet. Go to Wikipedia and look at the huge list of games that were "announced" but never spoken of again since the original PS3 unveiling.

DamnBoxes @ Feb 25th 2008 12:57PM
Is the mystery game Heavy Rain?...
proArchy @ Feb 25th 2008 1:57PM
in the article the author said that when he mentioned this secret game to phil harrison, Mr H. was unsure to even acknowledge its existance, so its likely something other than Heavy Rain
Glen @ Feb 25th 2008 12:59PM
E3 is going to rock.

'We're looking forward to seeing the trailer for ourselves whenever it's released to the pubic'
I to am awaiting this incredible release to the pubic!
On a serious note, I'm glad they're putting decent split screen support back into games.
With the common adoption of large TVs it's never made more sense to split it into four for some multiplayer!
Water @ Feb 25th 2008 1:21PM
too*
Embarrassing... :(
John @ Feb 25th 2008 1:01PM
Pubic releases are the best kind of releases.
benny boy @ Feb 25th 2008 1:34PM
LOL.
Yeah... those pubic releases really are the best aren't they.
True_Darknight @ Feb 25th 2008 1:01PM
Hmmmm
L.A. Noir?
Is rockstar gonna do it all up for us?? MUAHUAHUAHA!!
Or maybe it's the new Cryotek game!
OH I'm just glad I have my sexy black box!!!
The PS3 is nice lookign too!!! :-)
Binaryfiend @ Feb 25th 2008 1:02PM
Imagine if it were Final Fantasy they were talking about.
SparkyJ23 @ Feb 25th 2008 1:06PM
Thats just wrong teasing us like this...
Binaryfiend @ Feb 25th 2008 1:03PM
But yeah Heavy Rain sounds more plausible.
frankym @ Feb 25th 2008 1:32PM
All of this sounds really great but were are the games Sony has been promising for so long now?
MGS4
LBP
Killzone
Haze
Socom
GT5
Home
GTA IV
They have all been delayed. Its like Sony keeps stringing us along but never gives us anything firm. LETS GET SOME FIRM DATES SONY!!
Christian @ Feb 25th 2008 1:40PM
You are aware that MGS4, Haze and GTA IV are not made by Sony controlled studios right? So there is little Sony can do there apart from wait for their completion.
LBP and Killzone are made by independent studio's under some kind of contract with Sony. So Sony has some kind of pull there although I don't know the details of course. And the rest of the games are by Sony owned studios so they could push them to release of course.
Yet at the end of the day what do you prefer? Getting buggy halfdone games early or accepting that things take time and get smooth running games when they are ready?
Sure I was as irritated as anyone when Haze didn't come out before Christmas, yet I prefer not getting the game at all before Christmas to getting something which is not enjoyable to play due to lots of bugs and glitches.
Noshino @ Feb 25th 2008 4:54PM
Christian, Guerrilla was bought by Sony...
Christian @ Feb 25th 2008 6:47PM
Ah right Noshino, had forgotten about that. Well it just change the gist of my comment :)
Christian @ Feb 25th 2008 1:34PM
The mention of interactive vegetation in Motorstorm 2 reminds me, I hope they make the trees destructible based based on your vehicle type. There is one track where you are racing as a truck in the current game and yet if you hit a puny little tree standing on the side of the track your truck comes to a immediate stop. Its been one of my few irritations with the current Motorstorm.
sean @ Feb 25th 2008 1:38PM
cant wait to see the resistance 2 trailer. and thatd be cool if the mystery game was god fo war 3.
SparkyJ23 @ Feb 25th 2008 1:39PM
Shenmue3!!!
frankym @ Feb 25th 2008 1:47PM
@16: Great point. Still pisses me off though.
When is Gamers Day this year?
Fraser JK @ Feb 25th 2008 1:51PM
So many games, so little money!
NATO_Duke @ Feb 25th 2008 2:20PM
I really am excited about some new game that was that impressive. I would doubt it was a sequel to something by the sounds of it. (I don’t see how GOW3 could be so amazingly immersive - I would think it has to be realistic to be that immersive.)
PS3convert @ Feb 25th 2008 2:27PM
I agree. I would much rather wait and get a solid game than be stuck with some glitchy crap.
The Sound @ Feb 25th 2008 3:04PM
I hope they took great example from Uncharted.
That chase scene in the jungle was pretty epic. Imagine racing in an environment that amazing looking.
*drool*
Oh, and 'epic' Resistance 2 trailer?
*double drool*
Cornerman8 @ Feb 27th 2008 6:43PM
This gentleman from the BBC went to London-based studios. If this mystery title is a sequel or at least been announced before I'd bet its either the Getaway 3 or Heavy Rain. The Getaway was made their and from what I remember from Indigo Prophecy, those guys are based out of Europe. If not those 2, then its a new IP.
Fatalassassain @ Feb 25th 2008 3:34PM
I hope this resistance 2 trailer comes out....i loved the first one and now that they are more fimiliar with devolping on are system it should look and play better:) and i hope this secret game is good...but i really hope socom comes out alreadyB)
hey_big_dck @ Feb 25th 2008 3:41PM
maybe its legand of the dragooooooooooooon 2! i loved that game
StevenRafael @ Feb 25th 2008 3:47PM
Yeah. Why was no sequel released for that game?
TheUsedVersion @ Feb 25th 2008 6:08PM
You just made me cry.....
I would seriously... probably faint if they announced Legend of Dragoon II.
bourne6 @ Feb 25th 2008 3:47PM
WMaby this is why all of those game are taking so long to be released. This "new" legendary game release could be conflicting with the other titles.
Who knows it sounds like Uncharted. "An island with lost of vegitation...lol"
Cheers
hpvs17 @ Feb 25th 2008 4:20PM
That mystery game... Could it be the next team ICO game??? possibly a shadow of the colossus 2?? ^^
Ninja Dood @ Feb 25th 2008 4:25PM
I think the "secret" game is either the next team ICO game or Heavy Rain. More so Heavy Rain 'cause that game looked great last time I saw it in '07.
TinyTim121 @ Feb 25th 2008 5:18PM
I wonder if that mystery game is Eight days or the getaway?
Either way, i am so happy i'm a PS3 owner right now!!
SolidSnake @ Feb 25th 2008 5:40PM
HOME soon.. a link from a comment takes you to a page talking about it being released next week, I doubt another beta will be released next week (i am assuming its a beta), but it doesnt hurt to hope.. by the way, where are rumors/footage/any thing whatsoever on God of War III?!?! damnit, I need some Kratos
halebound00 @ Feb 25th 2008 6:35PM
You know they've got GOW 3 cooking already. If you need your Kratos fix COO comes out next week if I remember correctly. My PSP is gonna melt between that, Patapon and Logan's Shadow.
captaingamer @ Feb 25th 2008 6:57PM
The secret game is The Getaway!
GamingGirl @ Feb 25th 2008 11:39PM
i think its Eyedentify i really wanted to play that game when i first saw the trailer for it back at E3 05 i think it was
Kalil @ Feb 26th 2008 12:24AM
dam the hype is killing me
but cant wait
georgester1993 @ Feb 26th 2008 4:15AM
it could be Eight Days. Its developed by SCE London Sudios and published by SCE.
Brodie-san @ Feb 26th 2008 9:54AM
It's not the cash to game ratio that is my problem. More the TIME to game ratio. Where do you people find the time for all these excellent games?
:)
Between work, family, commuting, Japanese, gym, reading, cinema etc. I'm finding it hard to fit 5 hours a week in! With such a problem you NEVER complain about the lack of games. I have 6 games sitting there on my shelf since Christmas still in the plastic!
Maybe I just need to be unemployed. But then the cash/game project resurfaces.
;)
IanC @ Feb 26th 2008 11:30AM
"Anyone else got goosebumps right now?"
No, just sounds like overhype. Until I see INGAME footage on my TV screen i don't believe anything from Sony.
Once bitten, twice shy and all that.
Or maybe im just not a blind fanboy....
