Valkyrie of the Battlefield gets western release

For the uninitiated, Valkyria Chronicles is a strategy RPG that incorporates the "BLiTZ" battle system. "BLiTZ" takes a unique twist on the traditional turn-based system by injecting bits of real-time movement and actions. As much of a paradox as that may sound, it really does makes sense once you see it in action. The game's gorgeous imagery is probably what gamers have noticed most about the game; the artistic style is brought out by SEGA's CANVAS engine which is said to take full advantage of the PS3's processing capabilities.
The game is set in a fictional world, and follows the story of a soldier named Welkin. The major conflict is a familiar backdrop with two huge forces waging war: "The Empire" and "The Federation." A smaller neutral country named Gallia, has the most unfortunate position of being right in between these two huge factions. What will happen as a result of this? We don't know, but we're certainly curious. Be assured, we'll be keeping a close watch on this one.

Yay! I've been watching trailers for months, wishing, PLEADING that Sega would announce it. And they have.
This news has made my week.
Nate @ Feb 25th 2008 2:54PM
Awesome.... I only wish it was coming out sooner :)
sicklesdawg @ Feb 25th 2008 2:56PM
YES!
Jason @ Feb 25th 2008 3:16PM
Yes!!! I was going to dedicate my life to learning Japanese so I could play the import version if they were not going to bring it to the states. This announcement just saved me a lot of time, money, and a big headache.
Kabapu @ Feb 25th 2008 3:24PM
... Why the name change Sega? "Valkyrie of the Battlefield" sounded so much cooler. Maybe they thought it sounded too much like Square-Enix's "Valkyrie Profile"?
Oh well. I'm just happy to hear it's arriving here. I'm very, very looking forward to this.
(Oh ... and Sega ... don't screw it up by not offering both audio tracks ... please don't screw that up ... there's plenty of space on the BD to have both).

Neptune @ Feb 25th 2008 3:34PM

What the heck kind of weapon is that she's holding??? And why are we not making immature references to what it might be?
Faar @ Feb 25th 2008 8:10PM
I was just thinking I should post that that thing kind of looks like the most uncomfortable suppository ever created, but you kind of beat me to it! :D
aaron_k7 @ Feb 26th 2008 2:13AM
Faar, I'm glad I'm not the only one that noticed, sheesh!
Lars @ Feb 27th 2008 2:46PM
It looks like an umbrella to me.
Speaking of immature references: Did you notice the size of her breasts? Damn!
ComicShaman @ Feb 25th 2008 3:58PM
Man, it's taken a while to get the RPGs going for this generation of consoles. Folklore is pretty much all we've had for the PS3 (unless you count Oblivion, I suppose, even though it was a re-release).
I'm liking how this looks so far. So glad that Sega is bringing this one over to our shores.
Laurens Holst @ Feb 25th 2008 4:49PM
Woohoo!
The RPGs are, after all, why I bought the Sony console and not the XBox.
aaron_k7 @ Feb 26th 2008 2:16AM
You may also be interested in the Persona 3 special edition coming out for PS2 if your PS3 is back compat that is. It looks like a sweet deal, but I'd order that one early if you want it. Persona 3 (regular edition) is now over $60 on Amazon + shipping.
Laurens Holst @ Feb 26th 2008 8:48AM
@aaron: yeah, I’m definitely looking forward to playing Persona 3. Unfortunately I live in Europe, and as far as I know there’s no known release date for it yet… Not even sure whether anyone is releasing it at all. :(
aaron_k7 @ Feb 26th 2008 1:47PM
Major bummer...if Sony wants to keep Europe as a viable market, they'd be wise to stop treating it as a second or third-class citizen when it comes to game releases :-|
Dehshizknight @ Feb 25th 2008 5:03PM
Lol, I didn't even know this was an exclusive title. Was it even on the list of games to look for in 2008? (That list you guys made a while back).
boxmyth @ Feb 25th 2008 6:18PM
Yay! Best news of the day!
I just hope they have the testicular fortitude to include Big the Cat as a playable character (kidding!)
Twelve @ Feb 25th 2008 7:58PM

defektedtoy @ Feb 26th 2008 1:04PM
SEGA does not have full access to the cell. Konami and Square/Enix do, but not sega, and not for this game.
rockeranimefreak @ Feb 26th 2008 1:46PM
haha great caption! I plan on getting this when it comes out! I love sega rpgs! =)
Ryan @ Feb 28th 2008 1:18PM
The Word "I'm comin'" And The shape of that weapon combined are slightly disturbing.
