God of War PSP bundle this May: includes red system [Update]

Well, that makes sense...

Sony is planning to release a new PSP bundle this summer, which includes the upcoming PSP-exclusive God of War: Chains of Olympus, according to an announcement made at retailer conference Destination PlayStation today. The package will include the game, a UMD version of Superbad, a certificate for Syphon Filter: Combat Ops, and a brand new red PSP system. This would be Sony's third PSP bundle in the US. Previous bundles included Daxter and Star Wars Battlefront. Just like the Star Wars PSP, this system will feature a special faceplate -- a rendering of Kratos. The bundle is expected to retail for $199.

I sure hope it looks a little nicer than the image Kotaku whipped up.

I'm also kind of pissed cuz I pre-ordered this with a $5 Amazon coupon and now I dunno if I should cancel said pre-order, get this, or wait in case Sony decides to drop a FFVII Crisis Core Bundle on us...

People don't seem to understand -- this is a picture of the "Deep Red" PSP Sony released in Japan. Nearly all of the Japanese Slim colors have been pastel or eye shadow-friendly. That aesthetic is not likely to cross over to UK or the States.

Even on Kotaku, people thought this was a Photoshopped Spiderman PSP, which has black buttons and is a far more masculine shade of red. It resembles the red and black Gundam edition, which is my favorite red PSP so far.

I'm guessing that a GoW-themed PSP is going to look more like blood than lipstick. Not to worry -- Kratos doesn't carry a compact.

Unbelievable -- it really *is* going to be the Deep Red edition! At least my lipstick PSP will be a lot less expensive and play US UMDs.

On the less crepuscular side, the shade looks far better in person than in the official photos. Have a look at a few youtube vids and you'll see what I moan.

looks good, nice job sony making cool colored psp's. i'd rather not though, i like my current psp and don't like god of war. also, $200 is rather steep.

I wish I could buy this one too. I have the Star Wars one and an old black one. But I really like this one more. Its to bad I am not going to buy another.

I really am not a fan of either this color or the new slim as a whole. While I'm certainly missing the internal improvements to the system, the original PSP is just a better feel to me. New one is too much like a toy...which I guess is the point.

heh I bought my phat last June might as well get the slim this June! :) and red just looks plain sexy! ;) Kudos on this bundle Sony you've done good! now if i get this I definitely need a screen protector! :P wouldn't want 200 bucks to look unpleasing now would I?
