Pre-order Metal Gear Solid 4, get access to online beta

Metal Gear Solid 4 will launch on PS3 later this year. In addition, players will be able to enjoy a Metal Gear Online "Starter Pack." Online features support for up to 16 players using "the latest weapons and stealth techniques."

Konami will introduce a pre-order campaign through a nationwide pre-sell promotion will enable gamers to pre-order Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and be guaranteed access to a multiplayer beta test. The beta would occur in late April.

This is a great incentive for fans that already planned on picking up MGS4. We're curious as to see how extensive the "Starter Pack" for Online will be.

You can pre-order it and we have been able to for a couple of months but they are not sure about the promotion coming to Canada as always. I am sure it will be available though.

Just came from my local EB and the guy said yes. If not Im just cancelling and waiting for the release. Also preordered GTA 4 special edition.

You can already pre-order it. They will probably have the offer in april for those who already Pre-ordered.

What do you mean "came with it"? MGS4 is supposedly coming with the "online starter pack". This just allows you to preorder MGS4 with Online Starter Pack AND reserve your spot in a multiplayer beta.

Aww man, I just ran out and pre-ordered it but it seems like you'll have to pre-order thru Konami's promotion to get access to the beta.

Oh well, I'll just cancel this one when there's more info on it

Well, nothing official.

I figure if they're having a beta open to all pre-orderers.. (is that a word?), then they'd have to have a way of counting the pre-orders or "knowing" who's pre-ordered.

Take me, for instance. As of this news, I now have a $64.19 receipt in my hand from Gamestop for "Metal Gear Solid 4 Reserve Order Deposit".

But how would I be included in the MGO beta?

I figure you'd maybe have to pre-order from Konami or something for them to be able to know who gets into the beta or not. I could be VERY wrong, because I honestly just don't know.

Is this only for the US or does this also apply to Europe? From the news reports on PS3 Fanboy it is not always clear whether they apply to the US or Europe only, or worldwide.

yea, a way for all you glitchers to find exploits EARLY.
(thus eventually get this version canceled in a year or less)

gona bet that Canada gona get screwed out of this extra as well. plus everyone who has pre ordered the game since the RELEASE of PS3.

Hey guys, I work at Gamestop. This is news to all of us there. The way pre-order betas work through us, is we usually get pre-order beta cards that we can hand out to people who have it reserved. You then go to the website on the card, register, and usually enter the code thats on the card. I suspect from there, you put in your PSN account and there you have it. I'll keep you guys informed if we get any of these pre-order cards in. (I have it paid off already too!)

I am very curious how such an expected game will play online. This game uses stealth to a high degree-- I am curious how they figured out the manifestation of this online? It seems that this could be a weird new paradigm of the 'shooter' genre, unlike anything we've ever seen before. I do not envy the programmers.

Yeah, all it takes is 5 bucks and it's technically reserved. However, some stores are stingy about giving away stuff like that if they dont think you're not going to pick it up. But keep checking in and see if Gamestop/ EB games is even going to be getting them. I'll let you guys know, but you can always cancel the 5$ after the game comes out.
