Europe gets two new bundles (sorry, no MGS4)
When we heard about the MGS4 bundles a couple days back, we were wondering if Europe would be getting the same treatment. Apparently, Europe won't be seeing the 80GB MGS4 pack, but instead will be getting two new bundles in its place.
The first pack is the "movie bundle" set for a March 19 release. It includes three Blu-ray flicks: Spider-man 3, 300, and Casino Royale. The second includes a copy of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue; this one should hit Euro retailers by March 29. Both bundles are 40GB models (the only ones available in Europe) that come with the regular €399 price tag.
It's pretty sneaky of Sony to introduce a Blu-ray movie pack, especially with HD DVD out of the picture. It certainly is an intelligent tactic. To see the movie bundle pack shot, hit the jump.

Listen up Sony. I have a 60GB PS3. I have friends who *want* to buy a PS3 but do NOT want the measly 40GB version.
Release the 80GB version in Europe and stop messing about.
Thank you.

Dude, just buy the 40 gig, and replace the hard drive with a cheap $50 300 gig hard drive that's available everywhere now. That'll be tons cheaper than paying Sony maybe $200 more for just 20 or 40 additional gigs!

Probably because Sony wants the people who buy the movie pack to eventually pick up the controller to play some games....
NineT9 @ Feb 28th 2008 11:19AM
for media lovers this is brilliant, some of the top bluray movies in a whole package :)
Popfrogs @ Feb 28th 2008 12:55PM
Yeah but I gotta wonder why a movie pack didn't come with the BR remote packed in? With the expense and rarity of other BR players on the shelves, they should be stacking these boxes up at home theater stores right?
PSN: KillaKornbread (the shirt is a lie!) @ Feb 28th 2008 2:50PM
that is a good point. why not include the BR remote and an HDMI cable and make this thing a full high def theater in a box? i mean you can make the fair assumption that the majority of people that would buy the PS3 for Blu-ray are going to have a high def TV with at least component and more than likely HDMI. i mean if you dont have a high def TV, stick to DVD's cause Blu-ray is damn near pointless.
NineT9 @ Feb 29th 2008 2:34AM
very good point about the remote, it seems the movie bundle would appeal to those wanting a PS3 for HD Movies, so why not the remote?
Sad day!
ParmoPaul @ Feb 28th 2008 11:34AM
But is the Duel Shock 3 included with these? We still dont have a EU release date yet...
Eggy @ Feb 28th 2008 11:37AM
Of course not, the DS3 won't even be out in the US when these bundles will be released. Europe always gets stuff later.
Jm @ Feb 28th 2008 12:00PM
hmmm what about singstar?? mister eggy?
Zixxer @ Feb 28th 2008 12:31PM
ok, we need a PS3 for $300. with gta4 coming soon, masses of people will looking for an entry level way to the next gen consoles.
Popfrogs @ Feb 28th 2008 12:58PM
$400 is entry level enough. People need to get jobs.
Dahk @ Feb 28th 2008 1:18PM
THANK you popfrogs. That's more of what we need to hear =P.
Come on, I'm a student living on my own working through internships and I can afford one. Though technically I might put the PS3 on a higher priority list than others... like matching furniture.
Kabapu @ Feb 28th 2008 12:00PM
Hm ... Casino-Man 300 Royale ...
It's a smart move overall on their part. They need these awesome bundles to push sales.
Does the 360 have any offers like these?
xillentz @ Feb 28th 2008 12:01PM
screw ds3, those packs are more than amazing already ! ds3 is just extra lol
KayRazy Ken Kutaragi @ Feb 28th 2008 12:04PM
Good bundles SCEE, but please for my brothers across the pond GIVE THEM the 80GB 85%BC PS3. If as you said yourself that the 80GB sold 50/50 with the 40GB why not do the same in the EU?
WITH THE DS3 INCLUDED. Man I really wonder what the frak SCEE is smokin over there, they must spend 8+ a day in those coffee shops.
wilboss @ Feb 28th 2008 12:09PM
Come on Sony, if the 80gb is selling so well why aren't we getting it in Europe - SORT IT OUT! I'm just glad I bagged a 60gb before they disappeared...
TinyTim121 @ Feb 28th 2008 12:23PM
THESE ARE SWEET BUNDLES!!!
Alrite, 80gb PS3 would be better, but now that blu-ray has won the formatt war, this is a great bundle for movie watchers!
And seeing as most of the PS3 owners are going to be purchasing GT5:P, a bundle of GT5:P is surely going to be a geat incentive for non-PS3 owners to jump onboard.
Wonder if we'll see a GTA IV bundle? Or maybe not because its not a PS3 exclusive?
Zixxer @ Feb 28th 2008 1:00PM
lol, i hear ya.
Galley @ Feb 28th 2008 1:24PM
One bundle comes with $90 worth of movies, and the other comes with a $40 game, yet they are the same price.
Freemen @ Feb 28th 2008 1:54PM
Kinda rediculous they are still gonna bundle Casino Royale. That film is getting just a bit old.
benny boy @ Feb 28th 2008 2:14PM
You can buy 2 PS3s for the price of one Nokia N95 without a contract.
How is that too expensive!?
Everyone just seems to hear everyone else saying it is soo expensive and then they just repeat it. Come on guys!
benny boy @ Feb 28th 2008 2:14PM
Sorry, meant to be a reply to Zixxer.
Damn commenting system.
Fiddlesworth @ Feb 28th 2008 3:11PM
This story's a bit misleading, giving the impression we're getting these INSTEAD OF an MGS4 pack which isn't necessarily the case. There's several more months for an MGS4 pack to be announced.
John @ Feb 28th 2008 4:43PM
This is a brilliant move. But I am pissed, but not totally. Glad again that Europe is getting nice stuff while the US waits-- for Singstar and Prologue-- my most highly anticipated games. I don't want to hear any more Euros complaining that they don't get stuff on time. We have to wait for both of these quality products, while Europe and Japan already has them.
Andre_the_Devvil @ Feb 28th 2008 6:00PM
Man... I dont know who´s fault it is, but europeans (like me ) always get F-up by Sony. These packs compared to MGS4 one , are nothing.
dz @ Feb 29th 2008 8:15AM
I'm happy with these, I for myself will pick up one of them (probably the movie bundle, because BD movies are expensive here).
Though, for the sake of some other people, hope MGS4 bundle will come later.
An European.
GhostReconGuy @ May 2nd 2008 4:11PM
WE WANT THE MGS4 BUNDLE PACK!
Donr. @ May 27th 2008 3:07PM
Come on sony (re)release the 80gb/60gb version in europe. most people know you can replace the hard drive but we want backwards compatibility. i(and a lot of other people i know) will only buy a ps3 when that happens.
