Deal of the Day: 8GB Memory Stick for $65
Well, it took a while, but it's finally happened. 8GB Memory Sticks are now in the realm of the possible-to-attain. For example, this 8GB Memory Stick from FRYS.com is only $65, plus shipping. Remember when these babies used to go for over $100?We think the 4GB Memory Stick is plenty enough, but a whopping 8GB would allow us to store even more music, videos and games from the PLAYSTATION Store. We like the sound of that. Even Sony's official 8GB cards are getting cheaper -- we spotted one for $90 on amazon.com. Now, the next thing we're eying: the 16GB Memory Stick. How long before that becomes a bargain purchase?

damn dude 300 bucks for 16gb?! heheh that's a bit too much^^ I might get that 8gb though... for anime, music, and ps store games! I wonder if they have any fake 16gb's out there in the wild. If those worked I would pay 70 for one lol. X)
other than that I'll head over to fry's today and check if they have that 8 gb.
thissceneisdead @ Mar 1st 2008 3:46PM

What website or store ripped you off?
Julio @ Mar 1st 2008 4:28PM
anything wrong with getting one of these lexar memory sticks? are they any worse than a sony one or does it not matter
Hoffer @ Mar 1st 2008 5:20PM
I paid roughtly $65 shipped for a 4 GB memory stick in December of 2006. Thing is, I don't know that I even use half of it. I also have a iPod and use that for music and video. The PSP is a gaming only machine for me.
sean @ Mar 1st 2008 5:47PM
i have a 4GB lexar and no problems at all.
Strike009 @ Mar 1st 2008 6:19PM
Lexar sticks are slower to load from. I got a 4gb SanDisk from Amazon for $40.
lyingit @ Mar 1st 2008 8:12PM
well dammit to hell...
I drove to frys today and got the last 8GB they had for 79.99 (ad price in flyer yesterday)...
they didn't have any 4GB's, but like always, some things on their web are cheaper, and some things in their store are cheaper.
oh well.
at least I can fit all the games I want to on my stick now.

No such luck in the UK. £86 ($172) for 8gb.
Lul, but then again it's Sony and Europe so we've probably got 9 months to wait. 8gb is my next purchase though so hurry it up Sony.
Kspraydad @ Mar 1st 2008 11:24PM
Dude...Amazon has it for 49.98 http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000K7UCLU?ie=UTF8&seller=A5KNPZPNKUO48&sn=gr8%5Fmemory
and I'm sure you could even find better...you have to look harder.
Mills and Boom @ Mar 2nd 2008 6:35PM
Sorry to burst your bubble. My last 4gb card was from Amazon (a seller not the store itself, just like that link you posted) and it was a fake. I reported it but it looks like nothing has been done.
Even mymemory.co.uk has them for £80 and they've been the best for price and delivery speed.
Amazon is up there with eBay on the fake memory card front. Just so you know.

That's pretty cool. I'm probably going to get one of these (have to upgrade from my 32 mb memory stick) soon. I remember when a 128 mb usb flash drive was running for $60...

i was really excited for these to drop in price before, but ive decided that im just going to buy a Zune80 this summer. i use my PSP for my music, videos, and pics right now with a 4GB stick and i just have too much music for that. i guess id rather just make a big jump instead of the small jumps ive been making over the years (32mb, 1GB, 2GB, and 4GB). getting HDD based MP3 player should leave me with alot of space on my PSP for games and stuff like it should have.
Alien @ Mar 2nd 2008 6:22AM
Great deal IMO ... I will deffintraly pick a big stick up soon :D
lyingit @ Mar 2nd 2008 11:40AM
I'm not sure of the need if you're running OFW...perhaps music/videos...
but I'd think if you're not running CFW, you wouldn't need anything bigger than the 4's...
the 8 is sweet though
Mills and Boom @ Mar 2nd 2008 6:38PM
Heavens no. My save files take up about 10mb, I have about 500kb worth of pics (various wallpaper graphics) and 100mb worth of music (just my game OST). I could live on a 32mb card to be honest.
8gb? I could almost fit all my ripped PS1 games on there! Soon as the UK price matches the US one...

That's in GBP. This post is in USD, and yes, it is the cheapest around.

Pay attention...I was responding to a UK resident talking about UK prices.

Oops. Sorry, KY. A misunderstanding on my part.

I bought a 4gb off ebay (I know, it's a love/hate thing) for $35 shipped and you'd be surprised how easily it could filled up. 8 gb is righteous, and at $65 is a great deal.
DrXym @ Mar 3rd 2008 6:27AM
Beware of buying any kind of memory (sticks, SD, CF etc.) off eBay. Most of them are fakes. If you absolutely must buy one, load it up with 8Gb of content as the first thing you do to test you have a genuine one and report the seller if it stops well short of that.
scott @ Mar 3rd 2008 7:58AM
newegg.com reputable and good prices - got mine 4 months ago and have basically decided not to get an iPhone--my psp is all I need.
Mills and Boom @ Mar 3rd 2008 4:56PM
Wow. If only I could fit my library on an 8gb card, along with save files and other needed stuff.
Whenever I'm doing heavy work I'd load up the PSP and play a few tracks or the radio off that instead of plugging my iPod into my amp. It's no comparison at all since it just plays an music file with no bells or whistles. But it did get the job done.

i was wondering if anyone has this or another size memory stick made by Lexar? If so is it as good as the Sony memory sticks and will it work with the PSP Phat?
Ahrel @ Mar 3rd 2008 8:29PM
I've got a couple 2GB Lexars that I bought from Fry's last year for like 25 a piece. I wanted a 4GB but it was more expensive...but after having them for months I realized that I should have just got a Sony or Sandisk Ultra II instead.
They work fine for game saves, music, and most movies. Some movies at high bitrates will skip occassionally. But nothing show stopping.
Games like God of War CoO demo and Beats from the PS Store will also have some slow down you won't experience on a Sony/Sandisk Ultra II stick. Before GoW boots up it even says that the game experience may differ for people with different media (memory sticks) and that it's not indicative of actual UMD demo speed.
You can use a program like HDTach to test the read/write speeds of the Memory Stick yourself, its a few tens of milliseconds slower, doesn't' sound like much but it's big enough of a difference that I experience problems occasionally with them. So I use them for nothing really anymore...Use my 1GB Sony and 4GB Sandisk Ultra II, game saves also tend to be just a little faster, but I haven't timed them so it could just be something I want to see.
lyingit @ Mar 3rd 2008 8:58PM
I'm not sure with the fat...
but I have a slim, and I have a 2GB Lexar, and now this 8GB that I bought at Fry's this past weekend.
have yet to have any issue with them...
