Interview with SCEA's Hight confirms PSN redesign in April, Warhawk expansion, PS1 games

Wow, more and more rumors popping up on the interwebs are proving to be true. This time around, the rumor about an April PSN store overhaul has been confirmed in an interview with John Hight, SCEA's director of product development. Hight is quoted saying, "I think you will see a pretty big change in the PlayStation Network in the early part of April, where we roll out some new interface stuff largely based on customer feedback." So, we now know there's definitely a redesign coming, but we're still in the dark about new content like, oh say, that rumored video download service.

Also in the interview, Hight confirms that the rumored expansion for Warhawk should hit the PSN by April, too. Hight stated, "We just released an expansion on Warhawk in September, and we'll release another one in April." Further more, when questioned about Japanese PS1 games on the American PSN store, Hight had this to say, "I'm pretty darn sure they will [appear on the American PSN], but I don't know which titles." Now hold your horses, what that probably means is that we could be seeing a similar title catalog, and not that Japanese version games will appear on the US PSN. Nice, but not a guarantee. Well, we'd be happy if we could just get Resident Evil 2 in our store ...

Agreed. This could be awesome.

I HATE going into the store on the PS3. It is slow and cumbersome. Most important though is that it is so sparse. Even a year after it launched and there is barely any reason to go in there.

Sony, please spend a bit of time analyzing the Xbox Live marketplace. Do focus groups, and click tests to make sure that people can easily and quickly get to content.

Other great additions would be the ability to vote on content. Thumbs up or thumbs down. That way, people could browse by user popularity and find the most exciting things on the store.

Hopefully the new store rocks. Sony has a lot of catching up to do compared to the 360 in this regard. Hell, I even enjoy shopping more on Wii than on my PS3. :(

I always thought the DiRT interface would have been a mint front end for PSN. The PS3 has the horsepower to run a beautiful swishy, graphics flying all around type interface.

I cannot wait to see the new interface. Rock my world Sony.

The only PS1 game I want is Final Fantasy VII. I'm really hoping they release it on the psn to go along with Crisis core that is due out later this month, but I doubt it will happen. Oh well, I guess I can play crisis core to get my VII fix until it does.

Have you tried looking for a used copy? (Remember the PS3 can play PS1 game no problem)

Are you serious? Nobody wants to swap 3 cds, it'd be much cleaner to have a bundle you can download from the PSN and play it CD-free.

dear god, when did people become so lazy that they cant change a disc twice? i mean throughout the 100+ (i put in upwards of 150) hours that your going to be playing it, getting up form your beanbag chair to change the disc two times is that much to ask? just change the disc when you get up to get ur Hot Pockets and Mountain Dew.

a PSN download would be easier but come on, dont miss that great game cause u dont want to get up and change a disc.

My guess is April will be that 2.15 update that got leaked early. I could care less about PS1 games. I want movies and more content in demos and trailers. Why isn't Sony putting up all these trailers for games that we see on all the sites like gametrailers? I doubt we'll see in game until Home drops.
