SCEA is best reviewed publisher of 2007
SCEA has had a rather stellar lineup of games in 2007. On PS3, gamers were treated to titles, such as Uncharted and Ratchet & Clank. On PSP, gamers could enjoy Syphon Filter and Jeanne d'Arc. Even the PS2 got some love, with God of War II and some strong ports of PSP titles. Sure, it's had it's share of stinkers (what publisher doesn't?), but it managed to best the industry with the most critically acclaimed lineup of the year.
Next-Gen's Matt Matthews sorted through GameRankings data in order to gather his findings. What was undoubtedly a tiresome process becomes a fascinating read. Notice the incredible absence of prolific publishers, such as Ubisoft and Midway on this chart? Why? They're pretty far down the list.
Phil Harrison, who is moving from Sony Europe to Atari, will have quite a task at hand. Atari currently stands with a 55.5% average. We wonder if Harrison's Atari will be able to compete against the offerings of Sony and its various Computer Entertainment first-party divisions. We doubt it.

I enjoy my SCEA games. I only have 4 of them, but I play them a lot.
yomama07024 @ Mar 4th 2008 5:38PM
The fact that SCEA is doing so well with its games is amazing. EA has been going down the hole :(
They used to make awesome, quality games.
Fiddlesworth @ Mar 4th 2008 5:42PM
The first-party lineup for 2008 is way better, too.
Nate @ Mar 4th 2008 5:42PM
Well done Sony! Fewer and Better is definitely the way to go for games!

I really hate doing this, but should "One notes the incredible absence of prolific publishers, such as Ubisoft and Midway on this chart?" end in a question mark? Maybe I am misreading it.

I hate doing this, but should "One notes the incredible absence of prolific publishers, such as Ubisoft and Midway on this chart?" really end in a question mark? Maybe I am reading it wrong.

I would like to apologize to everyone for this :P

Okay, why did that go through? Anyhow, should "One notes the incredible absence of prolific publishers, such as Ubisoft and Midway on this chart?" end in a question mark? I may be reading it wrong.

Hmm, I though Nintendo might be the top publisher :P

3, okay, this is so annoying, I am not getting any e-mails to confirm my post, and the number 3 goes right through. I was just wondering if "One notes the incredible absence of prolific publishers, such as Ubisoft and Midway on this chart?" should end in a question mark. I was also going to comment on the article, but this is taking way too long.
matthew_neitzer @ Mar 4th 2008 6:06PM
What, do I have to write in leet-speak? dngfkjds I'm not getting any email confirmations, but the number 3 goes right through. I think you have already changed what I was going to comment on, but I as just really annoyed now. Yes, in fact you have corrected it.

SCEA has always had a strong line up of games, and it's great to see them coming in #1 in reviews. A major part of why I bought a ps3 is the first party titles that will never show up anywhere else.
Now, back to Patapon...
Leonhart @ Mar 4th 2008 8:20PM
It's pretty hard to say that ps3 has no good games when articles like this come out. i wonder what SCEA's score will look like this years strong line up
Consolcwby @ Mar 4th 2008 8:51PM
Leonhart: The bots will always say 'no good games' - it's their mantra/chant/prayer/wish/self-deluding crap. Let them have it - it's the only thing they have besides a copy of Halo 3, a useless HD-DVD addon, and a packing slip for UPS (that their RROD'ed box is on it's way to MS). Everyone who's been on here long enough knows: Xbots needs the PS3 to fail in order to justify their puchase of a badly designed money sinkhole.

Sony has some great first and second-party developers, which is why their publishing is so strong. I mean, companies like Insomniac, Naughty Dog, and Incognito have some really great stuff...
Evolution8 @ Mar 4th 2008 9:03PM
The only game i liked was uncharted.
PSN: KillaKornbread (the shirt is a lie!) @ Mar 4th 2008 11:19PM
alot of the Playstation series i play are 1st party (Gran Turismo, Ratchet & Clank, Warhawk, God of War, Resistance, etc.) and that is why i own a PS3. Sony does have some A-List publishers under their belt with Insomniac, Polyphony Digital, Naughty Dog, and even some good sports guys apparently with how MLB 08: The Show is being received. its times like these that make me proud to be a Playstation fan.
John @ Mar 5th 2008 9:53PM
This chart is interesting, because while Sony didn't see many awards at whatever the last big game award ceremony was, these numbers speak for themselves. And one reason I am such a fanboy for Sony is because of the quality of their exclusives. You look at the work of Naughty Dog, Insomniac, and others, not to mention past things like Parappa and Wip3out and they consistently deliver. There should be some kinda award for this sorta thing.
John @ Mar 5th 2008 9:55PM
Is it just me or were Okami and Shadow of the Collosus Sony exclusives? Where else are you going to get content like that? Of course they're rated highest. It's the art. The ART, FTW!
