Music lovers, this is a good week for you. Three new songs for
Guitar Hero 3 (overpriced, as usual) and six for
Rock Band account for the majority of this week's update. Also, there's a new game available -
Rocketmen, courtesy of Capcom. An arcade shooter featuring online co-op and RPG elements. Might be worth a look. Here's the full release list:
- Rocketmen full game ($9.99)
- Rocketmen demo (free)
- Guitar Hero III "Modern Metal" track pack ($6.25)
- Avenged Sevenfold's "Almost Easy"
- Thrice's "The Arsonist"
- Deftones' "Hole in the Earth"
- Rock Band "Grateful Dead" pack ($9.99)
- "Casey Jones" ($1.99)
- "Sugar Magnolia" ($1.99)
- "Truckin'" ($1.99)
- "Franklin's Tower" ($1.99)
- "I Need A Miracle" ($1.99)
- "China Cat Sunflower" ($1.99)
- NBA Ballers: Chosen One trailer (free)
- Lost Planet theme (free)
- 3 Condemned 2 wallpapers (free)
- Hancock movie trailer (free)
- 21 movie trailer (free)
All in all, not too bad - but only because of Activision, Harmonix and Capcom. Sony itself has given us very little (if any) of this week's content. Hopefully we'll see some more content of various types (more PS1 games please!) in the future. Perhaps after April's upcoming store redesign.

Finally, Deftones on GH III!!!!!! I love it!!!
mathab @ Mar 6th 2008 5:44PM
Deftones on GH is good, but Deftones on Rockband is much nicer. I needs Change, Be Quiet and Drive, and Hexagram. Man, I have such a long list of songs I want for DLC ...
aaron_k7 @ Mar 6th 2008 4:24PM
Rocketman for me thanks! Why else would I get four controllers!?
Haiddasalami @ Mar 6th 2008 4:27PM
Was looking forward to an Army of Two demo.
OAKside @ Mar 6th 2008 5:17PM
GameFly that shite.
aaron_k7 @ Mar 6th 2008 4:38PM
Seriously, what's up with the lack of PS1 classics on the American PSN????
JayVe @ Mar 6th 2008 4:39PM
I dunno, but I hope it turns around quickly.
Snuffulufugus @ Mar 6th 2008 4:48PM
Goddamnit. I want Grateful Dead on GH 3, the songlist sucks!
Andy @ Mar 6th 2008 4:56PM
"I want Grateful Dead on Rock Band, Guitar Hero III sucks!"
I fixed your statement.
xrich @ Mar 6th 2008 4:54PM
another week and another meh.....
Eggy @ Mar 6th 2008 4:59PM
Another week, another whine. Sony should just quit updating altogether, people whine no matter what.
RevN8r @ Mar 6th 2008 5:00PM
I just played and deleted the Rocketman demo, didn't do it for me. The Dead pack is quite nice, but I agree that we need more content from Sony. My kids and I have loved the Crash games, I just wish there was more.
Nate @ Mar 6th 2008 5:02PM
Finally, a PSN game and a demo for it at the same time! Keep it up!
Can't decide if I want Rocketmen or not. A 4 player shooter like that would be a nice RL multiplayer option on the PS3, but only if it doesn't suck.
Lars @ Mar 7th 2008 12:49PM
I was on the fence with Rocketmen too. It's got some elements I really like (such as upgrading your character/weapons), and I like the cell shading animation. I like the storyboards but they're a bit rough. I love the arcade feel and the fact that anyone can jump in and out of the game at any time.
But it's got a few negative points:
1. The acting is pretty bad. That's not horrible, but it would be nice if they maybe reviewed their acting in the final product and re-did a lot of lines.
2. Background music isn't engaging, which gives the gameplay a general malaise feel to it.
3. Character animation is wonky. This is just annoying.
4. Camera/progression is not controllable. This is absolutely the worst thing about the game. You can't go backwards and often the camera progresses when you don't want it to. Often you'll loose tons of loot and such because of this.
If it wasn't for #4, I think this would be a must-buy. As it stands, I love the concept, but the poor production values severely hurt the game. I hope they'll tweak this stuff eventually.
Popfrogs @ Mar 7th 2008 10:41PM
@Lars: I played the demo, and I'd classify this game as shovelware. It's crap. The easiest way to tell is by the deceptive "buy me" tactics they use when you complete the demo.
Hit O to cancel purchase? Who said anything about buying it? Then it acts like I'm not sure I don't want to exit and not buy it. Yes, I'm sure.
Graphics look like crap, cut scenes are tedious and ultra boring, animations look like some kinda stiff zombies (seriously, make it cartoony animation if you're gonna cell-shade), camera control 'shoves' you from room to room and you end up missing items as a result. Oh and the music sounds like a midi file from 1987 that loops in the background and is the single best reason for in-game XMB music ever.
Can you tell I hated it? I wanted to like it, I loved R&C Future...
djRidz @ Mar 6th 2008 5:07PM
Rocketmen sucks more then anything ive ever played on my PS3... it is the first thing to get deleted within 10 minutes of download...
totally NOT worth it...
Emophia @ Mar 6th 2008 5:38PM
Really needs an Army of Two or Dark Sector Demo.
matahtak @ Mar 6th 2008 5:50PM
I'll trade you all the crummy Deadhead songs for the ability to play Almost Easy for Rock Band. It's not fair! Yo, gotta try Rocketman at least.
JKPierce @ Mar 6th 2008 6:21PM
You can't have 'crummy' and talk about Grateful Dead in the same sentence, unless it's in reference to how completely opposite of crummy they are.
kevin @ Mar 6th 2008 5:52PM
i just played rocketman and beated ti, 10 levels wow its shit thank god i didnt buy it
JerJerBinks @ Mar 6th 2008 6:35PM
There you have it folks ... the public school system wins again.
Lars @ Mar 7th 2008 12:53PM
LOL, I was thinking the same thing!
Stef Geiger @ Mar 6th 2008 6:25PM
So... how long is it going to take for the COD4 patch to go through Sony's certification? Infinity Ward said they were JUST about to send it off to Sony right after they sent it to Microsoft, and the 360 has had it for a week now.
NACHO @ Mar 6th 2008 7:12PM
Lots of Rocketman bashing. Honestly, the cutscenes blow, but i love the actual gameplay. It's like arcade shooters, and reminds me of a game that i dont remember the name of. Anyway, for arcade fans, it's more than worth the $10. At least for me.
Dullshimmer @ Mar 6th 2008 10:18PM
Rocketman wasn't too bad, sure the graphics aren't the greatest, but it's pretty fun. Reminds me of Smash TV to a certain degree.
rudy @ Mar 6th 2008 10:18PM
FINALLY!!! Avenged Sevenfold on GH3! Woulda rather seen Afterlife, but Almost Easy is good enough for me
chimaera9 @ Mar 7th 2008 4:44AM
I enjoyed the Rocketman demo enough to buy it. I like the upgrade options and the somewhat RPGish nature of the character leveling, plus the variety of weapons and secondary weapons, in addition to the character classes, which add more replayability. I like the style: the cutscenes, while simple, have a little tongue in cheek humor and a fun setting in the Rocketman universe (if you're familiar with the strategy game), and the multiplayer aspect makes it a good quick-fix arcade style game for when friends are over or when my daughter wants to play a co-op style game with me. It's fun to just pick up and play, so I say it's worth the $10.
drdre74 @ Mar 7th 2008 9:11AM
Rocketmen is the worst crap I've ever played for 5 min. That game is pure trash and I dont see how in the hell they would even post that on the PSN thinking people would like it.
John @ Mar 7th 2008 9:39PM
You didn't say why. You didn't even give yourself a realistic name-- Dr Dre? That's an actual person, a music producer. You mentioned that you don't see how it could be 'posted' on the PSN thinking people would like it. Yet you never said why. So, essentially, you're a troll, an x-bot, or someone who has their head up their a**, maybe all three. Read a book.
Chicken Raze of Portsmouth, Alabama. @ Mar 7th 2008 10:51PM
I think people should be embracing love and peace. You know, like what Vash the Stampede preached during his 26 episode tenure as the main character of an anime series. To everyone on this site and others like it I say this, don't hate something because it is cool to do so but hate it because it truely deserves to be hated. Things like racism, ageism(or however that goes), alienism, xenomorphism, Don Kingism, Rocket Manism, ismism should not be tolerated. If there is an 'ism' that must be spouted throughout the interweb, it should be 'love and peaceism'. A thank you is you!
