Mint green makes PSP top selling console in Japan

Looks like the Japanese really love new handheld colors. Mint Green, recently released in Japan, thrust sales of Sony's handheld to the top position in Japan. According to Media Create, sales of the handheld jumped 20k from the previous week. Here's how the consoles broke down:

PSP – 73,706
Wii – 64,535
Nintendo DS - 51,922
PlayStation 3 - 13,520
PlayStation 2 - 10,986
Xbox 360 - 2,282

An impressive showing for the PSP, which managed to beat out even the Wii. It may be a short-lived victory, but overall sales of the handheld have been quite remarkable since the launch of the redesigned PSP-2000 system. Interested importers can also pick up a mint green system at Play Asia.

In all fairness it's doing quite well. It's just that the DS is the best thing to happen to gaming ever, for something to compete against that needs all the luck in the world.

Nothing against the DS(Lite)-- I own one-- but if that were true, then gaming is in a really, really sad place.

I agree with Don. I don't see how you can say that the DS is the best thing to happen, ever. Obviously different strokes for different folks, but c'mon? Best? Really? It will be cool to see what happens this month with two AAA titles for PSP coming out.

lol it was the color of our bathroom for years and then we moved. now have a Burgundy flower thingy, well at least in my bathroom anyway (yea i know its gay lol)

I'm only a fan of the black and white PSPs, but I think this one is tolerable. Them silver, red, blue, brown etc ones are just friggin hideous and if someone was to put one near my eyes I would shut them and lash out in a fit of rage, hopefully smashing the horrible coloured device.

The impeccable gadget preferences of the Japanese cannot be overstated.
There is something about this color that not only affects mood, but also rearranges the cosmic forces to combine asian rock gardens with cloudy skies and the most hyperbright glitz of Tokyo.

Color selection and object arrangement is, feng shui obviously, very imporant there, and it is not difficult to see why, especially when I feel the cool grasp of the gauzy mist and the glimmering stars convoluted and wound into the ancient gems and digital paradigms of beauty conjured via smartphones and broadcast throughout Japan and the universe.

Anyway, I love my PSP! :O)
