Rumor: Second PS3 Singstar?
A second PS3 Singstar game is in the works? This speculation started when a June 2008 listing for Singstar Vol.2 popped up at an Australian retail listing site. According to Kotaku, a SCE Australia rep couldn't confirm the title, but did hint at the possibility of SCEE's London Studio expanding the franchise via another disc-based update. Is a second Singstar volume really ready to hit retailers so soon? It wouldn't be too surprising seeing as these titles get churned out over in PAL territories every six months on average. Then again, shouldn't the PS3 Singstar have better longevity than its predecessors due to the addition of the SingStore? Also, hasn't the SingStore just recently been updated with a sizable amount of tracks? Color us negative, but if we see more huge updates like the one on March 7th, then why would there even be a need for a second volume so soon?

Im hoping if they release a new singstar, it will be the same as the original Singstar for PS3,but with different songs.

O_O When the f*ck do the non PAL territories get SingStar??? Isn't there a law forbidding publishers making sequels to games that are not fully released yet??... =( i want my singstar! )=

Not as stupid as it sounds.. it keeps the series in the public eye (and on the NEW RELEASE shelf), and offers something to those who don't have access to the DLC (and access to the downloadable software updates).
I'd guess that the songs from a new release would be available from the store at the same time it's physically released either in pack form, or for individual download. Of course, the current disk songs aren't on the store, but songs you've already purchased remain visible, so it's possible they could be added later for consumers who buy vol 2 and want some of the origional songs.

I don't get this at all. Why would you go through all the trouble and expense of pressing discs, designing packaging, etc. when you could just sell a downloadable package from the PSN?
Fiddlesworth @ Mar 10th 2008 1:01AM
Not everybody can or wants to download extra content for their games. Singstar's also the kind of game you take round your mates house and you can't easily take DLC with you as well.

What if it's a 70's.. or 80's... or 90's version?... Pop, Rock, Rnb?
Whats if it's a SingStar Party edition?
Or some entirely new concept over all. Maybe they have different ideas this time around?
Gotta take those things into account.

Already said in an interview on the french website jeuxvideo.com. Volume 2 is made :
- for those who can't or don't want to download extra titles
- this volume 2 will have wireless mic, which are not sold with volume 1. It's the biggest difference. And they are not meant to be sold separately at the moment. You'll need to buy Volume 2 to have wireless mic.
Rich @ Mar 10th 2008 9:03AM
I'd like to see the following:
- wireless mics available separately
- full PSN download and install
- choice of SD and HD download from the SingStore
- ability to go left and right on the saved player names when choosing a new song or in the high score table
Latest SingStore update was pretty good, except that my eight year old daughter is now singing the chorus of Wannabe on permanent repeat....

I think people really overestimate the percentage of people that care about online stuff. Especially the people playing Singstar games and other main stream products.

Maybe it's a new bundle with bluetooth mics? I'm waiting for the wireless mics. I sold the old ones with my PS2, and I definately want singstar back - pure party bliss.
JaffaBoy @ Mar 10th 2008 10:44AM
"Need vol2 to use wireless mics".... I damn well hope not! No reason they could not do a downloadable update for original users to enable something like that. It's one thing about singstar i hate... always getting cable tangle with passing mics around.
linebeginstoblur @ Mar 10th 2008 9:46AM
I was hoping that there would be one SingStar PS3 game (to rule them all). You want to make a rock-based SingStar? Add a lot of rock songs to the SingStore. Pop? R&B? Just expand the SingStore.
Also, it's nice that they're working on a PS3 sequel and more PS2 SingStars, meanwhile Americans have no PS3 SingStar at all yet... And yes, I admit I'm impatient.
Popfrogs @ Mar 10th 2008 10:21AM
They'll release it here once it gets out of the European beta test. ;)
Da @ Mar 10th 2008 6:28PM
Pop, it's sad but it's true. Stop complaining american's, the reason for the delay is so they can have a decent catalogue of downloadable content before they launch there.
Josh @ Mar 10th 2008 1:03PM
My guess, it will just be the same game but with a new pack of songs (likely released on the SingStore simultaneously) for those who havent got broadband/dont want to use the store. Add-on content is still not that massive in the UK at least. Wouldn't surprise me t see this packed in with the wireless mics though, highly likely. Probs be available seperately also.
Mr Khan @ Mar 10th 2008 2:42PM
Singstar should get on board with the whole procedural generation thing that Harmonix was talking about
Open up all the songs. Although it might be hard to get Sony, of all companies, to agree to that.
John @ Mar 11th 2008 12:19AM
Yeah, I'm peeved that Singstar isn't out in the US yet. I just hope it's because they want the Singstore to be fat. Surely they're aware of American Idol and all our wanna-be karaoke/irish pubs! I would buy the 2nd disc, I don't like DLC because I don't have credit cards, and you can always take the disc to a friend's, as mentioned. This and Prologue will be my bliss. I'll get MGS4 and have my friend play it (I suck at these) while I watch the gorgeous graphics and story etc.
John @ Mar 11th 2008 12:20AM
Also it's brilliant that they pair this with the wireless mic. Therefore, a must-buy, though eventually the wireless should be available separately.
