Soulcalibur IV box art: PS3 = dark side

Ooh, our comrades at XBF found these two uber-cool box arts for Soulcalibur IV. The cover art, minus the lightsabers, showed up on Gamestop's website. It appears that these pack shots play heavily on the Star Wars guest characters, Yoda and Darth Vader, creating a strong light-vs-dark theme. The box arts seen here could very well be just placeholder until the actual ones come out; however, they do look quite similar to Soulcalibur II's artwork that also featured guest characters.
While we've definitely got the cooler guest character in Darth Vader, the 360 version has series heartthrob, Siegfried on the cover. They've also got the Soul Calibur sword and the new female character Hilde, while we've got Soul Edge and everybody's favorite buxom babe Ivy. Now XBF asked their readers which one do they think has the better design, and we're doing the same! So which one do you like better?

I would have prefered Yoda honestly.. The ps3 cover is better though.
johnny @ Mar 10th 2008 10:43AM
Yoda? Hes an old short green midget with big ears and you would choose him over vader?
RazLeboL @ Mar 10th 2008 11:55AM
That's what I said. He was awesome in Episode 2.
mint400 @ Mar 10th 2008 12:20PM
don't ever use "awesome" and "episode 2" in the same sentence again!
gooftroop @ Mar 10th 2008 3:30PM
Awesome in episode 2? Everyone laughed at how stupid it looked when yoda had a lightsaber fight :/
ryan @ Mar 10th 2008 2:15PM
exactly, a dueling Yoda is unfortunately tied to the BAD star wars trilogy. not the good one with a dueling Vader. so VaderPS3 FTW!
JAH75157 @ Mar 10th 2008 10:19AM
ps3 >
being the bad guy is so much more fun.
Saffie @ Mar 10th 2008 10:44AM
...my thoughts exactly.
The PS3 version looks way cooler!
AL7AIR @ Mar 10th 2008 10:30AM
Come to the Dark Side ... we have cookies :)
TinyTim121 @ Mar 10th 2008 1:07PM
..and blu-ray
=)
Dullshimmer @ Mar 10th 2008 10:33AM
I like the PS3 cover, too bad we can't have both Yoda and Darth... but oh well.
Schoolimangooli @ Mar 10th 2008 10:42AM
Dam right were the DARKSIDE!
TinyTim121 @ Mar 10th 2008 1:06PM
lol yeah i was glad we got the dark cover as well
Looks more aggressive, which is what i want for a fighting game!
Matt @ Mar 10th 2008 10:42AM
Hard to choose. I like Yoda better, but for a fighter? Definitely Vader wins due to the size factor (Yoda is the Oddjob of the Star Wars universe, let's face it...)
Beyond that, the covers themselves...they're alright. I don't really like either of them THAT much. I guess they're effective in showing the unique characters but beyond that I liked II's cover better.
Doesn't really matter much since they're not definitely final yet though I guess...
Carlton @ Mar 10th 2008 11:07AM
Oddjob? I think you mean Nick Nack. Oddjob was the Japanese henchman from Goldfinger.
And are you saying that you wouldn't want to play a game in which you could fight as Hervé Villechaize?
Dwarves and midgets FTW!
Matt @ Mar 10th 2008 12:21PM
Actually I meant exactly that. Oddjob did horrible things to Goldeneye for N64. We had to make "No Oddjob" rules to keep things fair. He was a much smaller target and was unfairly unbalanced.
So yes, I meant Oddjob, haha...
Wonderflex @ Mar 10th 2008 12:26PM
Although I'm off topic now, I'd have to agree, we had to have the same, "no oddjob," rules. It's completly unfair.
Evolution8 @ Mar 10th 2008 10:42AM
Now the question is do I believe what namco said in game informer and just get one version because they will have download of each character or do I get both versions of the game. Personally I think a vader and yoda fight would of been sweet.
xFenixKnightx @ Mar 10th 2008 11:13AM
"do I believe what namco said in game informer and just get one version because they will have download of each character"
Really? Oh well damn that will be cool. I def wanna see Vader vs Yoda.
MouseyC @ Mar 10th 2008 10:43AM
Oh god, he's on the box art aswell.
Am i the only one who thinks Star Wars shouldn't be anywhere near this game?
xFenixKnightx @ Mar 10th 2008 10:49AM
No, your not. I don't like that they did that as well. You have to understand though. Anything and EVERYthing that has to do with Starwars = $$$ so I dont blame them.
Noshino @ Mar 10th 2008 10:56AM
just like how Link appeared on the ngc version of a previous installment? I for one am glad that they are listening and doing what the fans ask for...now if they put Zero or X on it...I will be able to die in peace
Dahk @ Mar 10th 2008 10:57AM
Eh Soul Caliber traditionally features random guest stars. So it's not THAT much of a surprise. And like Fenix said, its all for the cash associated with the name lol.
Plus, Big N fighter supreme SSBBrawl just got released with flippin' Solid Snake =P. They gotta find something to counter that lol.
Xoonaka @ Mar 10th 2008 11:02AM
Bonus characters are fun. Link, Necrid, Spawn, and especially Heihachi should've never been near this game, either. But damn did I have fun playing as Link and delving into "dungeons" with him, taking out various enemies.
I'm sure no official tournaments will allow the bonus characters, and you can tell your friends not to pick them if you please. I don't remember bonus characters ever showing up in other character's story modes either, so they aren't there.
Just consider it for it's fun. Cause damn, it's going to be great!
MouseyC @ Mar 10th 2008 11:14AM
Don't get me wrong, i liked the extra characters. Heihachi, Spawn, Link. Atleast they looked like they fitted in a little.
Vader and Yoda, i dunno. Something just doesn't sit right with me.
maverick_saturn_626 @ Mar 10th 2008 10:48AM
PS3 version looks better :) Vadar is better :P Red is better
sean @ Mar 10th 2008 10:49AM
of course most people on here will like the PS3 one better and same with 360 and theirs. but even if i was a 360 fanboy(and im not) i would like the vader one better. i never was into star wars really but playin as vader will be sick.
xFenixKnightx @ Mar 10th 2008 10:56AM
I like both covers but you do have to admit that PS3's boxart is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY better and cooler lookin' =)
Heres the problem though. Do I get this game on PS3 so I can play as Vader or do I get this game on 360 so I can play as Yoda and also get to play with all my buddies that have 360 and this game as well.
This one is tuff because I prefer the ps3 d-pad although 360's dpad is good enough to get the job done once you get used to it.
Ahhhhhhhh, 360 it is.

I doubt I will seriously ever use Darth or Yoda at all anyway.
Hyams @ Mar 10th 2008 11:35AM
Oh man, I hate the 360 d-pad. I can't even imagine trying to play a fighting game with it - it's so imprecise.
Although I have to admit, I haven't really used it much; maybe there's a knack to it I just haven't picked up yet.
mccomber @ Mar 10th 2008 11:53AM
The knack to using the 360 dpad is to mash your thumb into it until your thumb starts to turn red since just pressing it normally doesn't seem to work very well. Then yell at the controller a lot, asking it questions you can never hope to have answered like "since when does pressing right also press down?!?" Grow more and more frustrated with it over the course of time until you reach the point where you refuse to even play games that rely heavily on it. Eventually forget about that vow and start the cycle over again...
At least, that's what I do everytime I play a game where I have to use it a lot. YMMV.
brettjr @ Mar 10th 2008 10:56AM
You should see the Wii cover, they got the Ewok.
moogle @ Mar 10th 2008 11:07AM
damn, i was hoping for jar jar binks
xFenixKnightx @ Mar 10th 2008 11:15AM
Theres a Wii version??? o_O
Noshino @ Mar 10th 2008 12:16PM
gawd you are so slow Fenix, but yah, brettjr you owe me a soda! and also send a keyboard cover with it...
sean @ Mar 10th 2008 11:04AM
this game will kick ass no matter what but i still think they should toss kratos in the game. make this game 1000 times better for me. or sony should make a regular fighting game like soul calibur with all their game characters.
Titty Pink @ Mar 10th 2008 11:05AM
Yoda looks kinda pissed. Cool. Its pretty much a wash to me, I AM looking more forward to Vader than Yoda though...
Ryan @ Mar 10th 2008 11:31AM
I actually like the 360 box art better, but I'd much rather play as Vader and can't see how anyone could play a fighting game with the 360 controller (great overall controller, but useless d-pad) so this will be the first multiplatform game that I get on the PS3 instead.
Maverick Saturn @ Mar 10th 2008 11:51AM
Try playing DOA
ThePremierAssassin @ Mar 10th 2008 11:32AM
OMFG...thats freaking HILARIOUS
We all know the Dark Side LOSES!
maverick_saturn_626 @ Mar 10th 2008 11:49AM
Only so that the film can end with a happy ending, predictable huh?
In my book, the darkside wins :) The Jedis are gay :P
Jay @ Mar 10th 2008 11:32AM
Ivy,Soul Edge and Vader. PS2 cover is the one I pick.
naxe @ Mar 10th 2008 11:44AM
PS3 for me!! VADER... VADER.... VADER!!
nothing against my box. i had taken it back to the store for credit but felt like something was missing. so i caved and got the cheapest they had. still had an extra HDD that M$ sent me. (RROD) so its cool.
classic controls.
Free internet.
blutooth headset.
and my white imported DS3. bring on the vibs...
I hope this games pushes PS3 to the limit. I want to see what true blu game can do. i know sony hasn't even scratched the surface of the POWER the ps3 has.
(Crossing fingers for a smooth launch) no delays.
xFenixKnightx @ Mar 10th 2008 1:03PM
"i know sony hasn't even scratched the surface of the POWER the ps3 has."
A classic blind fanboy. I know this is PS3"Fanboy".com but c'mon now be realistic.
Christian @ Mar 10th 2008 11:49AM
The big question though is if Yoda and Vader will become DLC on the other platform.
Maverick Saturn @ Mar 10th 2008 11:50AM
Nope, never has before, doubt they'll start now :)
RazLeboL @ Mar 10th 2008 12:10PM
I am sure they will do that. It would stupid not too since it's already done and would sell like hotcakes.
Noshino @ Mar 10th 2008 12:20PM
actually RazLeboL, the smartest move would be to not make them available through DLC, so all the fans of both characters will end up buying both versions...
Anyway, if Im not wrong, Namco already announced that they are exclusive to each console....
Maverick Saturn @ Mar 10th 2008 12:23PM
Would sell even more if they kept them seperate, I mean, why pick up the PS3 version or 360 version if you can get the character on your home console :S
naxe @ Mar 10th 2008 1:24PM
@xFenixKnightx
trust me when i say that i do really enjoy sony for what they did with the PS PS2 PStwo PSP and now PS3 i dont conisder myself a fanboy. maybe a little. LOLz. but look at the PSP it was out for a while before the real power was unleashed. 222mhps to 333mhps. (dont quote me on the MHPS i'm not really sure if that's what its called.) but i still believe that the ps3 needs more time for devs. to open pandora's box. it has been said many times that a port from 360toPs3 is good but not GREAT. but a port from Ps3to360 is Killer. i know that was off topic. but what iam trying to say is that sony has alot of "stuff" in store for the ps3 in terms of Firmware updates. I've watched the psp evolve and now iam starting to see the big black monster starting to do the same.
i dont want to bash. i have alot of love and respect for any gamer out there. its hard.. between work/family/ real life.
TheEnd187 @ Mar 10th 2008 5:07PM
ok? so which cover do you like? me i like the PS3, because it has my fav Character Ivy
