Tiki Games officially presents NovaStrike for PSN
About a month ago we discovered that a new PSN game called NovaStrike snuck silently onto the ESRB website. Since then, developer Tiki Games remained hushed about the company's new IP. Today, however, that silence is broken as Tiki is ready to spill the full bag of beans on this top-down sci-fi shooter.
The objective of NovaStrike is to defend your home world from an invasion of Draelus aliens -- the very same aliens you've stolen military technology from. Ah, it's a bit ironicly satisfying to blow up aliens with their own tech, especially when you're piloting a highly customizable Scythe fighter with nine different weapon systems. As for your enemies, they've got a pretty good defense in that their ships won't go down so easy -- no, their ships are equipped with multiple destructible sections. So strategy-wise, focusing on what part of the ship to destroy first adds a bit of a spin on the usual arcade shooting experience, and it will definitely make the difference in a heated conflict.
Probably one of the coolest and most welcomed features of the game is that it supports the DualShock 3. Rumble support is always a win in our eyes. And better yet, Tiki Games stated that the company will be developing additional content in the following months after the game's release. While a fixed release date has yet to be cemented, gamers should expect to see this title floating up on the PSN sometime within Q2 2008. To find out more about NovaStrike, check out Tiki Games' website.

wtf this is a rip off of star dusk why cannt we get something new i gusse we only see new things from thatgamecompany
Solace @ Mar 11th 2008 2:29PM
First of all, it's Star"DUST".
Second, SSD:HD didn't invent that type of gameplay, it just made it prettier and more frantic.
Third, more of that type gameplay is a good thing if done right.
As for the game itself, even if it's half as good as SSD:HD, it'll be twice as good as most of the other games out there with that kinda gameplay. Sign me up.
finelicker @ Mar 11th 2008 2:14PM
very retro. Could be ok, I'll need a demo first.
Mein Bratwurst @ Mar 11th 2008 2:27PM
Is every new PSN game going to be a top-down shooter? :l /yawn
Solace @ Mar 11th 2008 2:32PM
Guess you haven't seen / played Pixel Junk Monsters, Eden, echochrome, HVBowling, PAIN, Wipeout HD, heck, even the Go! Sports games (while not the greatest) weren't top-down shooters.
Before running your mouth off about stuff you obviously know nothing about, would you like to buy a clue for next time? It seems you don't have one and I have a few to spare...
;)
Schoolimangooli @ Mar 11th 2008 2:34PM
Forgot warhawk..

I know, I own Pixeljunk monsters (love it) and Pain. You obviously didn't catch my exaggeration. I was simply expressing my boredom with these generic top-down shooters, not "running my mouth". Way to assume i've never played a PSN game in my life, thumbs up to you.

Dear Mr/Ms. Troll,
I was obviously exaggerating. I own both Pain and Pixeljunk monsters... as well as racers but I regret that. I was simply venting my boredom with all these top-down shooters. But then again, I don't have a clue now do I?
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go run my mouth about stuff I know nothing about. You get an A for your trolling efforts, thumbs up.
Kodros @ Mar 11th 2008 3:25PM
"I was simply venting my boredom with all these top-down shooters."
I can think of only 4 top-down shooters on PSN. SS:HD, Rocketmen, Everyday Shooter, and Nucleus.

@ Solace
Eden and Echochrome aren't even out yet (in the US, that is).
So no, we haven't seen those yet.
I tend to agree w/ Mein... seems like developers are getting lazy with these "casual" (shooting) games.
Mein Bratwurst @ Mar 11th 2008 6:17PM
Woops, sorry for the double post.. stupid email confirmation never got here.
P.S. Just cause i'm not a fan of the genre doesn't mean I didn't enjoy SSD:HD.
True_Darknight @ Mar 11th 2008 2:36PM
Oh woo another shooter!! oh oh oh..
oh wait... How about they put more PS1 games up or something????? or some more indie games?? (NOT SHOOTERS!!!!)
and yes i bought most of the stuff non-shooter mentioned above!
oh next week is hmmm R-Types!
sheesh
erico316 @ Mar 11th 2008 2:52PM
i agreed with you on that i would rather see more ps1 games than another top-down shooter on psn
Dahk @ Mar 11th 2008 2:52PM
I rather them not release PS1 games if they're not going to be anything mindblowing. If they release MGS and FF7/FF8 or DMC1 or any of the other major franchise starters, than maybe - but so far nothing has even slight appeal... maybe Crash Bandicoot Warped, but think I outgrew that 10 years ago.
Nothing wrong with another shooter especially if it brings some more pretty explosions and some good coop play action.
That's probably the only other thing holding me back from wanting this game right now =P shooters are way more fun with a friend.
phillip @ Mar 11th 2008 2:45PM
looks sweet to me, reminds me of some time pilot type game, i loved that game man!
erico316 @ Mar 11th 2008 2:45PM
first of all ssdhd is a remake so its is one of the first of it type gusse u didnt know that
secondly i think most ps3 owner like to play more than one type of game

Exactly, but you will now be accused of knowing nothing about PSN and running your mouth by a local troll. Excuse us for wanting multiple genre PSN games.
Solace @ Mar 11th 2008 4:08PM
SSD:HD is a remake of the Amiga title "Super Stardust", so yes, I DID in fact know this.
Robotron is often credited as the originator or these types of dual-stick shooters, so just because SSD:HD is based on an "old" game, doesn't make it original.
The fact remains that Mein's perception that there are too many "top down shooters" on PSN is FUD considering they are actually in the minority of games when it comes to gameplay types.
According to Wiki and most commonly held definitions, "trolling" means:
"An Internet troll, or simply troll in Internet slang, is someone who posts controversial and usually irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, with the intention of baiting other users into an emotional response[1] or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion."
Considering that I wasn't the one to post anything other than truthful facts in contrary to Mein's baiting FUD about the games on PSN, that'd make him / her the troll.
Geez - Mein can't even get the definition of "internet troll" correct, what makes you think he / she is correct about anything else?
Mein Bratwurst @ Mar 11th 2008 6:17PM
Eh, you felt the need to try and attack me. Like I said, it was an exaggeration when I made my comment about another top-down shooter.
Anyway, i've had my fair share of arguements with the morons on youtube and I refuse to do so with PS3FB's short bus members.. so flame away and keep pretending like I care what you have to say about me. I'm not a fan of the genre, if that bothers you then so be it, it is MY opinion.
Richard Marxism @ Mar 11th 2008 2:59PM
Sounds a little like Xcom.
reson8er @ Mar 11th 2008 3:25PM
tActually this reminds me of -a lot- of Time Pilot, though it adds ground attacks.
I loved Time Pilot so sign me up~
Dan Davis @ Mar 11th 2008 3:32PM
What? You want more Crash games? ;)
Ether02 @ Mar 11th 2008 5:29PM
I grew up on top down shooters and neogeo so more shooters doesn't bother me. Although I will admit psn is starting to have a lot of them. Anyway, this game looks like a cross btw super star dust hd and warhawk so sign me up.
Flame @ Mar 11th 2008 6:56PM
I think this shooter looks far more interesting than a couple of the other PSN titles (e.g. Nucleus). Shame I totally suck at them. Where are the cheat modes!
R.crisp @ Mar 11th 2008 7:24PM
I really want to mention a game from the PS1 of a similar style but side view rather than top down view which was alot alot of fun but I can't remember what it is! I'll get to that in a moment.
One major reason I would like to see that game remade, or in fact a game like it created: I tried the Rocketman demo, and I'm not sure yet what the other top down shooters are like, but I felt like there was so much going on and so much background detail it was a little distracting and hard to see what was going on. (I wouldn't mind info from someone on wether SSHD and Everday shooter suffer the same problems or not). Whereas this game was quite basic in that there wasn't alot of dots moving very fast but large spaceships moving fast and the occasional laser shot thrown in your direction (apart from bosses).
As for what that game was, can anyone remember a side scrolling spaceship shooter on the playstation 1 that had the following characteristics:
You could play co-op (red and blue chars/spaceships I believe) and there was an FMV at the start of the blue guy and red woman getting in to their spaceships.
The other major factor was that each boss fight was a giant spaceship but they all looked a bit fish like, and the boss fights started with a flashing red screen with an alarm siren sounding.
Sorry for going off topic but I'm annoyed at myself for forgetting what that game is called ^^
R.crisp @ Mar 11th 2008 8:21PM
Nevermind, just remembered what it was called lol.
Was playing CoD with some friends and just shouted 'G-DARIUS!' down the microphone. Don't know if anyone else remembers that game but it was the don of side scrollers back in my day!
Flame @ Mar 11th 2008 9:09PM
Haven't heard of G-Darius, R.crisp!
I found that SSHD does have a *lot* of on-screen activity; it can get really crowded and frantic.
russell @ Mar 12th 2008 9:25AM
does anyone know if this game will be in 1080p?
PaPa Slick @ Mar 13th 2008 8:08PM
With destructable parts of ships and upgradeable weapons, this sounds a little less brainless than some of the top down shooters out there. Keep up the good work Tiki.
