Fatal Inertia won't stay dead; makes an appearence on ESRB website
We thought we'd heard the last of Fatal Inertia after problems with the Unreal Engine 3 forced it to be delayed indefinitely for the PS3. Though it was originally pegged as a PS3 exclusive an Xbox 360 version was released to a fairly mediocre reception. It was assumed that that would be the last of the futuristic racing game, but we were wrong. A new entry has appeared on the ESRB website for Fatal Inertia EX for the PS3. We guess the fact that the name has been updated (notice the extra "EX") that this will be an improved version of the game that shipped on the 360. Even so, we're not interested. Koei are insane if they think that this game is going to be able to compete with WipEout HD. Too little too late, Koei. Save yourself the effort and nip this in the bud right now. We don't want it.

to be honest this is not too surprising.
it is still listed on some websites as coming soon, for example play has it coming out 30/03/08 [http://www.play.com/Games/PlayStation3/4-/1021978/Fatal-Inertia/Product.html]
I do hope that the extra time has helped improve it. the demo on the 360 looked good, but just didn't play well. in all fairness it could have been a poor demo.
it would sit well on the ps3, offering up a game with similar play to wipeout, but also different to not feel samey. it could also be described as something similar also to motorstorm, so it is in good company.

Yea, I played a demo of this game on XBL and it blows. At least on the 360, it doesn't really have any competition, but how can it compete against Wipeout HD? Maybe if Koei recruited G-d as a programmer, but even then...

This has nothing on Wipeout...a failed attempy might I add.

Wow...that's harsh.
Wipeout HD isn't the 'full' Wipeout game for the PS3 right? It is glossied up tracks that already exist on PSP/PS2. The REAL Wipeout game is at least a year away.
Perhaps, in the meantime, FI can garner some sales. And more publishers and more competition within genres is a good thing (I'm looking at you EA Sports)

If I had a 360, I would pick it up, because there's nothing else like it, there. But when I watched someone playing the demo on youtube, I was surprised at how it 'felt'. The graphics are very detailed, and the framerate is a pretty firm 30fps, but this is no Wipeout. It has the feel of a Commodore 64 game trying to emulate speed. The whole time, it seemed the processor was struggling with the code. And the ps3 version will be no better. It reminds me of when Lucasfilms ported pod racing to the ps2, and it was crap-- why play that when we can play Wipeout original on the ps1, which was better? I would rather play the original wipeout for ps1 than this thing, from what I've seen.

Also, the music for the demo I saw totally sucked. Just a bunch of drum machine stuff with a simple bass. Part of Wipeout's legacy has always been the amazing music. I watched the demo of Wipeout Pulse for PSP, and Fatal simply doesn't compare. Wipeout puts you in this futuristic universe, with great music, you can get absorbed in it. And, on the psp, it still had better framerates than Inertia while panning. I can't stand when you can see the code having trouble panning. It's like Koei doesn't understand the engine they're using, and are taxing it. And the music sucks, and there's not an over-lying story arc. In wipeout, we have a sense of being part of something. In Fatal, we feel like we're playing a mediocre videogame. Not sure they can fix this. Stick with Gitaroo Man, Koei.
