Game Republic developing a game based on a 'popular Hollywood film'
Game Republic, best known for Folklore and their PSN outings Toy Home and Dark Mist, have been signed on to produce a title for Brash Entertainment. The game, based on a "popular Hollywood film," will be released in 2010 for unspecified platforms. Looking at Brash's history, this doesn't really bode well - their software library consists of Alvin and the Chipmunks and Jumper: Griffin's Story. Both of which bombed. Hard. We're in two minds, then, about what we can expect to see coming in 2010. Game Republic is a great developer who, ignoring Genji II, has a great PS3 legacy. On the other hand, what was the last good movie-based game you played? We cautiously look forward to hearing more.

Sweet. Popular Hollywood movies make the second best type of video games. The best video games are based on unpopular movies that Hollywood trys to make popular by also producing a video game.

I think they should stay this vague through the entire development cycle. The game should just be named "?" and have strange fuzzy images on the cover. They should never say what movie they're tying into or even what the genre is. Screenshots should all be blurry and indistinct. This would be an awesome way to promote a game. So mysterious! So intriguing!
Maybe they could take it a step further and make sure the developers don't even know what they're working on! The script is kept secret from the directors. The character designers are given weird instructions, like: "Design a left hand with extremely long fingernails," and nobody knows what they're really working on. The whole project could be completely cloaked in mystery.
Hey, it couldn't turn out much worse than most movie-based licenses...

In other news: There was an Alvin and the Chipmunks game.
Seriously, who thought that was going to sell? Hell, I couldn't stand to watch the previews of the movie, let alone a game BASED on the movie! I think gaming has hit a new low.

WOW i didn't even know that existed. I actually just looked it up and OMG my stomach actually hurts - although it could be the dinner I'm eating.
I thought all these references referred to the NES version like 10 gazillion years ago, which imo was frickin' awesome with frickin' awesome coop play lol.

The game is Saw:The Videogame which has a tentative release date of October 2009.

Any of the Lucasarts Star Wars games on the SNES were good. But that was a long time ago in a galaxy...eh, nevermind.

Maybe publishers should think outside the box and take movie licenses that no one would think would work, like Deep Throat or Faces of Death... I mean, at least THOSE were popular and have never been done as a game before! Imagine the possibilities - and it would really shake up the press! =D

I wanna see a Battle Royale the game (granted, it's not a Hollywood film, but it would be awesome).

here's one for you
project mayhem the game
It would be based off off the book "Fight Club" by chuck palahniuk
You'd be a member of project mayhem periodically you'd receive an enovlope w/ a mission and you have to accomplish the task at hand... Tyler Durden and Jack would only be one person, and he'd only answer to Tyler, but would have conversations w/ himself, and you'd never know which personality you're dealing w/... It'd have downloadable missions, and online play... Bonus content would include fighting in the basement in lous bar, but it wouldn't be an actual part of the game...
The object: to mess stuff up, and to get high enough on the food chain that you start your own fight club and/or get close enough to tyler that you learn his secret....
I know an excuse of a fight club has been done, but this would sell....
