DBZ: Burst Limit screens burst into flames
Click for high resolution image.
Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit is actually shaping up to be a decent looking title. In fact, it's looking rather hot. Fire hot. It's definitely the best looking DBZ game thus far. The HD cel-shading looks fantastic. Burst Limit also probably has the closest resemblance to the actual anime than any other DBZ game. The blur effect and energy particle details are nice touches as well, and are especially befitting for the hyper-fast, energy-blast-filled world of DBZ. Check out all the rest of the screens in the gallery below.

Kabapu @ Mar 18th 2008 4:55PM
Wake me when they come out with a next gen Tenkaichi, then I'll be excited for a new DBZ fighting game.

The cut scenes look good, but the in-game character models actually don't look that great. The effects are good, just not the models so much.

Actually, I really hate DBZ. Anyone who watched the series with the Cell and Buu series, realize that they actually reduced everyone else's power to make GoKu and the other look more powerful as the episodes progressed.
A good example is Android 18 who could wield massive destruction on the battlefield... but when it came to Buu all the massive power was feeble. How could anyone that powerful be sooo useless?

Look yeah, in this day and age, I'll never PAY for a Dragonball Z game unless I can, and I stress this... DESTROY THE WORLD AROUND ME.
Yeah yeah, all this game will have is cool graphics as noted by the above Blog Post, but with all these Ki blasts, I want everything around me get blown to bits... permanently until the fight is over.
I won't pay for some lame earth cracks that heal or one time animated hills/rocks that get broken and rebuild for the next attack. Where's the PHYSICS used in this aye? I mean when CELL powered up in the Anime, he effin made a crater... and that's just from a power up.
Example: Look at this image ( http://playstation.joystiq.com/photos/dragon-ball-z-burst-limit/705652/ ) and tell me honestly, how the hell does the ground survive that? I mean beating up the guy over and over again gets boring if you don't get to destroy the eco-system around him.
Dragonball Z games are fun, but once you've played the first Budokai you've played them all and I don't see the point in putting this into the holy grail that is my PS3's Blu Ray drive unless it's worthy of the CELL chips and whatnots!
RANT END_

You should send that, although a bit more polite version to whoever is developing this iteration because I wholeheartedly agree.
Kabapu @ Mar 18th 2008 6:58PM
Agreed, sir. Agreed.
lenny0487 @ Mar 18th 2008 8:24PM
i am a big fan of DBZ fighting games, and I do agree as well. we are in a Generation were consoles have the ability to do all this, so why make such a graphical leap from last gen without inserting something that is already possible now (aka destructable enviornments)
shortyvs @ Mar 18th 2008 9:24PM
Here, here!

May I add that clothes should tear, limbs should go lame and the character should slouch. Not only that, I want bruises and pain.
I want to know that if this Big Bang misses you, your hand might get burnt a bit as you escape and that the ground below you won't be same again!
Street fighter will do all that to some extent. As a HUGE Dragonball Z fan it's a shame to see developers milking the license without delivering a game that will do it justice!
Trickob @ Mar 24th 2008 2:55AM
the most recent game that I played was dbz budokai tenkaichi and I believe that it had most of what you describe; the bruises and damage to clothes over time.
as for your first post, i agree whole-heartedly

So I take it none of you have played Tenkaichi Budokai (or is it Budokai Tenkaichi, I can never remember which order it goes in) 2 on the Wii?
There are destructible environments that stay destroyed the whole fight e.g. buildings, hills etc.
In some stages doing the right attack will destroy not just a building, but change the whole stage e.g. A planet destroying fireball by Frieza on some namek stages will change it from green to a burnt out wasteland.
Characters' clothing can take damage and they also show injuries and get brusied e.g. Vegeta at low health will hold unto his side and crouch forward as if in pain, just like in the series.
OK you cant create a crater by powering up, but everything else is there.
Buy this game for the Wii and put your money where your mouth is.
Can't Wait for part 3.

@ Kye
yea im with you. i had Budokai Tenkaichi 2 on Wii and i can back you up on your statements. it had destructable environments and the clothes got torn as the match went on and there were visible bruises and cuts. i also used to like playing in the level where it put you in the middle of one of the cities (cant remember the name and that might actually be in Tenkaichi 1) and you basically HAD to destroy the buildings and stuff to even FIND your opponent.
now some of the environment wouldnt stay burnt or crater ridden after a simple Ki blast or anything but they made strides. you guys make it seem like they didnt even attempt this stuff. Burst Limit really only needs a graphical update, better animations, and minor updates to their destructable environments and im sold (spoiler: two of those conditions have already been satisfied)

Ahh, what the hell. I'll give it a shot.
Mr.ESC @ Mar 18th 2008 6:52PM
I'm more interested in the new Exlcusive (maybe xbox 360 port) of Naruto.
The thing with DBZ is that all the DBZ games look exactly the same.
mmendoza27 @ Mar 18th 2008 8:41PM
Thanks to the import ability of the PS3, I know the first game that I will be importing! I always love buying fighting games like DBZ or Naruto from Japan, they are easy to play and I love the originality of them like original voices, bgm, etc.
However, isn't this game made from an American company? Or is it made from Namco Bandai?
shortyvs @ Mar 18th 2008 9:23PM
There is a trailer/gameplay video for this game on the Japanese PSN. Looks very good on an HD set. I think most of these screenshots are from that video anyway.
phrequency @ Mar 19th 2008 12:32AM
while i haven't looked into the details, it looks like this game may only go up to the frieza saga? if that's the case then it's a rather sneaky trick to sneak in x amount of iterations until they cover the entire dbz universe again on next gen...
while this game is looking pretty sweet, i think i might have to wait until their final iteration.
from the way it looks, it seems like it's being developed and/or published by namco-bandai (at least the same guys that published the budokai tenkaichi series).
Dark Archon @ Mar 19th 2008 9:57AM
You can clearly see Cell in the official trailer. Hope that helps.
Trickob @ Mar 24th 2008 2:58AM
Am I the only DBZ fan in the world who wants a good DBZ RPG in the vein of "Legend of the Super Saiyan"?????
Chopper @ Apr 1st 2008 3:38PM
Seams to be a ok game... based on the grafic.. But let's face it, the story line is way to short.. why don't drag evil shenron into it, the buu's for god sake... but past that, they seam to have forgot the multiplay funcion, player vs player.. you can only do that online, and not on the same ps3 consol in the same living room...that sucks.. split screen is ok.. just leave that option to us.. we will still juse the online mode to!! BUT GIVE US THE OTHER OPTION AS WELL!!
