The May issue of EGM will have a cover story, likely going into great depth about the upcoming PSN title,
SOCOM Confrontation. However,
1UP has a small sneak peek: it's given readers a list of all the special forces squads that players can join. 1UP explains: "Joining a special force is now a perk associated with joining a clan ... special forces (and their associated uniforms, gear, and weapons) will only be available to clan members." As expected, the SEALs and SAS are available in the game. But what else can players find?
[Thanks, Philip K.!]

Dang. I was kinda hoping for the Dutch commandos (KCT) or Marines (BBE) to be included.
Andy @ Mar 20th 2008 8:15PM
Another one of these sleeper games, that gets very little info and attention. I am really looking forward to trying this one out. I missed out on socom last generation and know lots of people who play it.
TheMagnificen7 @ Mar 20th 2008 8:40PM
Darn. No Canadian JTF 2? Bummer.
Haiddasalami @ Mar 20th 2008 11:39PM
That would be so awesome.
KFBradley @ Mar 20th 2008 11:53PM
I was going to say the same thing, but I guess they aren't well known enough. Hell, even most Canadians don't about them, which is really too bad because they ARE better than the SEALS and SAS. But perhaps that's why no one knows about them...
TheMagnificen7 @ Mar 21st 2008 9:50AM
Yeah, they really need JTF2, kicks so much ass, widely regarded as the most secretive and professional special forces group in the world. Should have been there instead of the UOE.

Holy crap! News on this game is coming out finally! Don't toy with my SOCOM heart strings!
SOCOMRAIDER @ Mar 20th 2008 8:49PM
Only two things I want to know, when and how much?
TriFF51 @ Mar 20th 2008 8:53PM
How ive longed for another Socom....sounds sick, can't wait to get Confrontation and that new headset.
Kattleox @ Mar 20th 2008 8:52PM
What? The lack of Spetsnaz is disturbing. In fact, it nauseates me just to think of it.
Fiddlesworth @ Mar 20th 2008 8:58PM
Sweet, wasn't expecting anything like this. British SAS FTW!
Chowley @ Mar 20th 2008 8:59PM
Ach no Spetsnaz? Thats not all of the special forces in game is it?
Would have loved the Irish Army Rangers myself, a lesser known special forces unit. hehe.
LoCuSt @ Mar 20th 2008 9:29PM
Is there any other information about this game? Is it all online or what?
Bram @ Mar 20th 2008 9:33PM
How about some IDF or Shabak!
recon @ Mar 20th 2008 9:48PM
LoCuSt,
Yes i do believe, this one is all online, however, the SOCOM being produced by Zipper, the original creators of SOCOM, will have both the campaign modes and online play as in all the SOCOMs from before. The Zipper one is to be released later in the year.
grief @ Mar 20th 2008 10:42PM
Yeah seriously, where are the Spetsnaz? I think more people know of them then France's special forces.
Chowley @ Mar 20th 2008 11:03PM
Slightly surprised they went with that French special force as opposed to the GIGN and the German GSG9. Or is it the other way around. :P
The Sound @ Mar 20th 2008 10:52PM
Oh man.
Can I has now?
CL34N3R @ Mar 20th 2008 11:32PM
There are gonna be a lot of 1 man clans out there.
brettjr @ Mar 21st 2008 12:03AM
Oh come on, Warhawk I understand but these lazy bums could of came out with a one player story.
They better have an offline 1-4player and no I don't mean a server where you can play with other people on the same console ie warhawk.
RazLeboL @ Mar 21st 2008 12:15AM
There is 2 Socom games in the work for the ps3. The other one will include single player.
hal.issa @ Mar 21st 2008 12:19AM
Spetsnaz and GIGN?
anyway, im keen as mustard.
hugznpunches @ Mar 21st 2008 1:00AM
Doesn't France need to have an army before they have a "special forces". France and special forces that's an oxymoron.
shaker @ Mar 21st 2008 6:25AM
Oh you're funny. Not.
Anyway where's the MJK? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marinejegerkommandoen
jonondaspot @ Mar 21st 2008 5:53AM
Nothing but posts of people flipping out about the lack of a particular unit. the SEALs have to be in there as that was the foundation of the title.
This is hardly a sleeper. it has only been off the radar. A sleeper is a game that is hardly known and comes out of no where. This is the sequel to the biggest online games from the PS2. At one time, SOCOM II had more people in that game than all of Xbox LIVE.
Seth Luisi has stated multiple times that this game is designed for PSN integration and that new SOF units and maps would be available for download on a periodic basis.
The issue now is they need to announce a sufficient number of Terrorist units to balance the game out and give people the rich choices they had in the first 4 titles.
Dan Davis @ Mar 21st 2008 8:42AM
No love for the Rangers or the Green Berets? DE OPPRESSO LIBER!
usmc @ Mar 21st 2008 11:05AM
@kula Yeah I saw a documentary about the MKJ when they helped our special forces in Afganistan. They deserve to be in the game! They even got the Navy Presidential Unit Citation.
Juggy @ Mar 21st 2008 7:50PM
I need now.
NyghtcrawleR @ Mar 22nd 2008 12:30PM
lol at the offline single player comment. It official and has been, no single player. Warhawk has no single player either. Who played socom for its single player? honestly...haha
..Jedi.. @ Mar 22nd 2008 4:39PM
SOCOM FOREVER!!! None of these others need to be in teh game at all - this is about the NAVY SEALs vers TERRORISTS. Not every one else... I dont care if they are there, but dang - all you whiners out there complaining one or the others NOT in the game... if you want Spetznaz - then go play Call of Duty 4 - got them in there. As far as the comment on the canadian special forces...thats the funniest thing i have ever heard. They are so NOT better than the SEALs - or they would be the ones in Iraq/Afganistan/Serbia/Bosnia Etc... - not the SEALS - LMFAO at that DA...
Bone-Collectors for life!!
.. @ Mar 23rd 2008 7:24PM
Its funny how people will comment without reading up on the facts. JTF2 is in Iraq. JTF2 doesn't announce where they go and they are rummoured to be in Kosovo, parts of Africa and South America. Just because you are deployed to more areas doesn't mean you are better...
Magnificen7 @ Mar 25th 2008 4:49AM
I fully stand by my comments. I'm not really sure why the SEALs are so hyped, they actually tend to be messier and less professional. Kudos to them, I wouldn't want their job, but Canada has committed to JTF2 in a way that you wouldn't believe. I am sure that many people owe their lives to JTF2, just ask the Marines, Allied Forces in Afghanistan, or even the SEALs.
