Crisis Core is not the end of the FFVII compilation
1UP's James Mielke had a chance to chat with Crisis Core's director, Hajime Tabata. In the interview, he notes that the world of Final Fantasy VII will continue to expand even further. Crisis Core is but the most recent addition of a long series of works expanding the FFVII universe, such as Advent Children, Dirge of Cerberus and Before Crisis. Tabata notes that "the Compilation's finale will take some other form." Could the long-rumored FFVII PS3 remake become reality? For the complete interview, check out 1UP. Stay tuned for our review of Crisis Core next week.

If it's true, then all I ask for is for Squeenix not to screw this up. Please, that's all.

*Quietly prays for FFVII remake for PS3, or even putting FFVII on PSN, but knows it won't happen*
.P@BsLpKn @ Mar 21st 2008 2:50PM
if that ever happens ill buy a PS3 for sure.
dabamf @ Mar 21st 2008 2:58PM
Dang it man...for a split second I thought that was a real picture!
Nate @ Mar 21st 2008 3:05PM
Oh PSP Fanboy, why must you tease me so, with your fake PS3 Final Fantasy cover? You do wound me greatly.
Seriously though, FF7 remake for PS3 would be ridiculously awesome. FF7 on PSN would be a huge cash cow and a huge draw for people to upgrade from the PS2. To be honest, though, I threw in my friend's FF7 PS1 disks and couldn't take the graphics. They were just so bad. Maybe I'll give it another go, though.
I think, more likely, is that there will be another sequel/prequel/alternate story that comes out in the same universe with some of the side characters.
Can't wait for Crisis Core, btw.
Daniel @ Mar 21st 2008 3:20PM
Turn on smoothing and it's a lot better. Certainly not good (by today's standards) but it tones down the flashy-jagies a lot.
crisis_hero @ Mar 25th 2008 7:36PM
omg i know, my jaw dropped when i saw that, and then i almost started to cry, but then i realized it was fake. so i was like, .> no-one saw that.
lol.

Hopefully the finale will be a rpg sequel. To me, that just seems like the respectable way to end the FF7 story. I don't want a sequel to Dirge. If they do decide to make an rpg, it would need to have turn-based battle system. Although, they could use a real-time battle system, and have you control all the different characters individually. Imagine playing DMC, except you're controlling Clould!
I don't really care for a FF7 sequel, unless it has some serious new content. A remake is inevitable though.
Maverick Saturn @ Mar 21st 2008 3:26PM
I'm fighting with myself here, see, part of me is kinda fed up with all these hundreds of FFVII spin offs and remakes and remakes or remakes, and spin offs of remakes, and remakes of spin offs, whatever, you get the point, its beginning to do my head in, I sorta want FF to leave it alone, FFVII is a legend, but it only remains a legend so long as Square does not overkill it. Imagine hundreds of spin offs etc for star wars or LOTR or Matrix, in fact, look what happened to Matrix.
The other part of me can't wait for FFCC, the movie remake and any chance of a remake on PS3. But even with my excitment for lots more FFVII stuff, they really need to stop it now ¬_¬ Cloud's boring, painful and sorrowful life is beginning to drown me, let him get a gf, get married, have kids he'll call 'thundara', 'lightnine', 'raine' and 'haile' and end it at that.
ViagraFiend @ Mar 21st 2008 3:47PM
I just want a PS3 FFVII Remake. Then end it. No more spin offs. Make the game exactly the same in every way except for amazing graphics for PS3 and be done with it.
Alexander @ Mar 21st 2008 4:37PM
There needs to be some sort of sequel, whether it be a new Vincent game, a new rpg or even a new movie. There needs to be closure in the FF7 world, and I don't believe most of the compilations titles have truly provided that feeling. In the ending of AC, Seph says something like "I will not be just a memory". In CC, we have Genesis's character developed. Finally, there's the secret ending in DoC, which pretty much shows that a sequel is required.
I agree with Saturn. I'm fearfull that more spinoffs, sequels, or sequels to spinoffs will only hurt FF7's reputation, and make the story convoluted. Which I think might be a problem it has right now. Hopefully Crisis Core will put my fears to rest.
stoyan @ Mar 21st 2008 3:55PM
I would like to see psp remake of ff7. I didn't have a chance to play it on ps1 long time ago so that would be cool to play crisis core and then ff7 on psp!
yomachaser @ Mar 21st 2008 3:58PM
They (squeenix) said that the worlds of FFVII, FFXIII and Ivalice Alliance would 10 years of support with more games, movies, etc so we're nowhere near the end of the spin-offs in any of the game worlds.
Alien @ Mar 21st 2008 4:05PM
Well a remake will probably come sooner or later , the question is when and for what system . I agree that the ebst would be the PS3 though :)
Girl @ Mar 21st 2008 4:18PM
A Final Fantasy VII Remake would be a waste of money for Square Enix. They could take that money, an put it towards creating more new original games. (Which would be much better) Why Remake or Redo a game, that you can already play right now? What's the point? It's a stupid idea. MORE ORIGINAL GAMES PLEASE!!!
The only reason why people (FFVII fanboys/girls) want a Final Fantasy VII Remake, is because of graphics. That's the ONLY reason. All the FF graphics whores want this game to get made. But to me, that's not a give reason to Remake this game.
(I don't like Final Fantasy VII. An in IMO, when Square enter the Playstation generation with Final Fantasy. That's when the FF series went downhill. It become all about the visuals (FMVs) and what looked cool. An it hasn't changed since.)
Lulu @ Mar 21st 2008 4:22PM
as long as the games are great, i don't mind keep playing the expansions.
SpiderMike @ Mar 21st 2008 4:25PM
I gotta say Crisis Core is amazing. Ive been playing it over the past 2 days and ive been hooked on the missions part of it so much that when I actually went to do the STORY part of the game I was kickin a$$ left right and centre.
The cut scenes are PS3 in quality and the animation is SPOT on.
Totally the best FFVII game since FFVII

Graphics are the only reason why people (Mostly FFVII fanboys/girls) want this game to get made. Pure eye candy and nothing more. An i just don't think that's a good enough reason.

Remakes are fine, we don't mind playing remakes of old games if they are toned up, besides, gamers don't actually realise that 90% of games on the market are in fact remakes, they have different names and plots, but they are the same as older games, Halo copies many movies and games before it, Mario has not changed much in many years, and the list goes on.
It's when a series never seems to die and stay flipping dead that winds me up, games with stories are meant to end, not continue forever with 1000s of prequels and sequels. I don't mind sports games, they are fine, sports never change.
An FF7 remake could sell lots and be a success.
1: Because FF7 fans will love to relive the updated version of the game.
2: Because those that missed FF7 and can't be bothered to go back to the horrible graphics of 1998 or when ever it was released to play the game can now see what all the fuss was about.

"A Final Fantasy VII Remake would be a waste of money for Square Enix"
Your kidding right? They would already have half the resources finished! They have the Advent Children models, they have the story, settings to go off, and a whole lot of the other work already done for them! Plus it's pretty obvious this would sell millions right off the bat. So basically they would have to spend hardly anything and would make more than games they've recently put out...
Mills and Boom @ Mar 22nd 2008 6:00PM
Absolutely true.
Way back when Sony systems were the weakest in the markets the fans used to say "graphics don't matter!" and all that. Now we have the PS3 and PSP as the most (or equal) powerful systems on the market and the tune has changed.
It's now about making it the best looking. Which is what FF7 was never about, to their own confession FF7 is about story. That's it.
Personally I wouldn't buy FF7 again. I've just finished it on my PSP already (first time) and even though I'd rank it brilliant I'm not going to play the same story again. Whereas I'm hyped as hell for Crisis Core.
FF7 fans are a strange, hypocritical breed.
ViagraFiend @ Mar 24th 2008 12:26PM
@AZN_Girl
No, I just want what I see to be the greatest game of all time to get the spitshine it deserves. No, I dont want to see a whole bunch of remakes for past games. But this one time, I'd like to see it happen. If you don't like the game, of course you don't want to see it redone. When you said that, your whole comment became irrelevant.
towelie @ Apr 6th 2008 10:53PM
who cares about remakes????
i agree to a certain extend...but nowadays...try to find yourself a copy in a regular store....ebay is the only way.....or pay madly over price on other sites....i got my 360...i got my psp...heck i still got my workin nes and super nes...But dman me if i dont buy myself a ps3 if they make a remake of ff7...i dont mind the old graphic....but newer graphics on a game i play at least once or twice a year....wont be a waste of money for me!
so AZN......go hide in a hole
insane257 @ Mar 21st 2008 5:26PM
AZN Girl. Rubbish...
FFVII fans are in love with the story and gameplay, the graphics is just a fantastic bonus...
I can tell you don't like FFVII, listen to yourself! haha, when FF went to Playstation it went downhill? What are you smoking? Some of the best games ever made (FFVII, VIII & IX) came out for the Playstation.....
jesus, some people...

well said budday
Maverick Saturn @ Mar 21st 2008 5:34PM
The annoying thing is that every story needs an ending, FF7 doesnt seem to end, theres either other stories to be told or something else to add. Its slowly becoming like lost, everyone seems to have a story to tell, its only a matter of time before we are bombarded with a story about Aerith, maybe before she met Cloud, then her mother, then her after death in Heaven trying to help Cloud save the world....twice. Then maybe a spin off of that with the mother giving birth to her. Few years down the line, introduce a plot where you play as Sephiroth before he turned evil, and how his older brother used to tease him making him a c**k now. If thats not enough, top that off by making FF7 - 2, Sephiroth comes back for the third time after AC and fights them again, yet more pointless characters get added to the list, one with a donkey for a face, and another that looks like a Chocobo, maybe another remotly half dressed scanty clad woman with little or no brains, then if shes popular, make a spin off of her.
Its driving me mad >_< Finish the damn story and get onto the next story.
I often get the feeling that Square is having difficulty thinking of new and exciting plots (FF10 for any example) so just drowning us in the plot that was the biggest success, FF7. The FF name alone is already one of the longest lasting sequel involving games, please don't make the plots the same.
flameofdoom666 @ Mar 21st 2008 5:57PM
Final Fantasy 10's story was amazing.
mitdog @ Mar 21st 2008 5:49PM
I have never played a Final Fantasy game and I have no idea what all the hype is about. Having said that, I am intrigued. If I get FFVII CC will I be completely lost or is it something I can just jump into?
Curtis the Claw: Brawl Code 1075-0441-3284 @ Mar 21st 2008 5:57PM
All the Final Fantasies have different settings and characters, for example 7 is not a sequel to 6. So you don't need to play 1-6 as they have nothing to do with 7.
flameofdoom666 @ Mar 21st 2008 5:57PM
It is essentially a sequal to 7, but I am sure you could play it and understand.
stoyan @ Mar 21st 2008 6:55PM
Isn't FF7:CC prequel to FF7?
john @ Mar 21st 2008 6:39PM
I'd settle for a rerelease of FF7 for PS2... I sold my copy years ago and now it's not available at a reasonable price.
cafecito @ Mar 21st 2008 7:19PM
A FF7 remake on the PS3 would be the ULTIMATE reason for me to get a PS3. I wouldn't even give it second thought! Oh, And I don't really give a crap bout FFXIII. That being said, I'm really anxious for the release of Crisis Core :)
Maverick Saturn @ Mar 21st 2008 7:55PM
FF1-6 were simple, but classics
FF7 was legendary
FFDOC was wtf?
FF8 was fun, loved that game.
FF9 was a nice return to the classic epic feel.
FF10 was meh, and 10 -2 was stupid.
FF11 had pointlessly long battle systems against pathetic enemies such as rabbit sized creatures.
FF12 made up for losses to the series.
But FF13 looks way too futuristic, looks less epic and more Japanese anime Dragon Ball Z / RPG style.

I will love to see a FFVII game remake. But I have to wonder how long will us gamers eat the Kool-Aid... probably until we stop drinking it. Oh well I will buy it!
Sean jdahsdka @ Mar 22nd 2008 9:24AM
I just want SE to put FF7 on the PSN. I really don't want to buy a PS3 ever, but I'd love to play the orginal on my PSP.
Davin @ Mar 22nd 2008 5:31PM
Sound like Square has some tricks up their sleeve
Mills and Boom @ Mar 22nd 2008 6:02PM
Mad, my comment was deleted. So I'll repeat it with the power of nutshell-
I won't buy a remake of FF7. I'd rather SE make another game or a proper sequel (prequel passes).
fatherb @ Mar 23rd 2008 11:10AM
I never did finish FFVII I got to the end of disk 3 and my memory card crapped itself deleting everything it was one of those 4-in-1 types. I later got a memory card just for it so nothing could erase it or corrupt it and played through again and this time went through the game all the way to switch to disk 4 and it had disk read errors. I was very mad. I would diffently play/buy a remake of the classic on the PS3.
MetalKingSlime @ Mar 23rd 2008 6:24PM
cool if its true. definitely a way for them to get millions of more dollars in their fat wealthy pockets. it wouldn't be surprising if a remake actually is made in the near future. w/e

I truly hope they release a Final Fantasy VII remake. And with luck they will add a "hard mode" like they did with FF7:CC. I would surly pay for it.
SAi33N @ Mar 24th 2008 11:49PM
my god i almost soiled myself when i saw that picture!!! WHY DO YOU TORMENT ME SO!!!!
TJF588 @ Mar 30th 2008 6:59AM
FFVII for PSP. No more, no less. CC-FFVII- would be the graphical basis, and might allow for extra unlockable content in FFVII if the latter detects a save file(s). Ad-hoc, perhaps wi-fi, Chocobo Racing is a requirement, along with perhaps the entire Golden Saucer being ad-hoc co-op. This, of course, would lead to similar-level remakes of FFVIII and FFIX (which would retain the graphical style, lest fans of it get pissed; we're already getting proportionate Zidane in DFF), with ad-hoc Triple Triad and ad-hoc/wi-fi Tetra Master, with the online play tying in to the PlayOnline version.
PS3? Leave that to new FFs. The pre-PS2 FFs are goin' handheld, and I do not want to be stuck at my TV to play an enhanced FFVII (or a ported/spruced FFVII, should it appear in the Store).
Steve @ Apr 1st 2008 8:59PM
why dont they do something different and let the bad guy win? i mean sephiroth seems invincible yet he keeps losing? let him win kill everyone then fly away through the stars THE END
Flame @ Apr 3rd 2008 10:40PM
Because unless you played as the bad guy you would not be able to "beat" the game?
BustLord @ Feb 20th 2009 4:08PM
to flame,
even though the hero is supposed to win, Zack Fair dies fighting shinra in the end. he did not win neither did the "bad guy". in other words: final fantasy has let you lose b4.
Steve @ Apr 4th 2008 2:59AM
exactly you lose the game
