PSP takes top spot in Japanese hardware charts again
This is becoming a trend, isn't it? Once again, PSP manages to climb its way to the top of the Japanese hardware sales charts, besting even Nintendo's almighty DS and Wii consoles. With 57,651 units sold last week, Sony's handheld is already inching towards selling one million units in Japan this year. The sales spike is surprising, considering the most major release this week was echochrome.
- PSP - 57,651
- WII - 55,845
- NDS - 53,266
- PS3 - 14,934
- PS2 - 9,930
- 360 - 1,744

Excellent news. I really think it's time for me to take the plunge. I think it's a great all in one media device with a ton of potential.
So who's game to drop suggestions for the initial "must have" PsP list (games, gadgets, cases, etc)?
LaughingMan @ Mar 21st 2008 10:55AM
Patapon is an obvious choice. This game is just about perfect on the PSP.
pixelator @ Mar 21st 2008 1:52PM
The PSP isn't only appealing as an 'all in one' device. I think it's an evolutionary and excellent game system that has pushed the technical and critical envelope with its now-matured library. I play my PSP more than my DS - it just has more games that *I* like to play.
Some of the better games I've enjoyed are (in no order):
GTA:LCS
Ace Combat X
Daxter
Ratchet & Clank
Dungeons & Dragons Tactics
Jeanne D' Arc
Puzzle Bobble
Burnout Legends
God of War
Ridge Racer
Loco Roco
My Katamari
Dungeon Siege

I think PSP system sellers lineup are starting to wind down or at least in my opinion. After Pataon, God of War and Crisis Core, what else is there? Sony needs to step up to the plate and bring more to the table if they don't want to lose the no#1 spot to the behemoth Nintendo.

Must haves: god of war: coo, patapon, crisis core ffvii, tekken dr, wipeout pulse, monster hunter freedom 2, hot shots golf
I only listed the games i thought were best, as those are the ones I own and i really only buy the best games, but there are some I havent, but you could try: crush, exit, final fantasy 1/2
ps: i favor japanese games a lot more if you look at that list so these may not be ideal for you, but these are some of the best games on the system. If you can serious try out monster hunter freedom 2, if you end up liking it, it can be the best game on the system.
jeez... that was long.

Hori Screen Protector!!! ($4.99)
A must have...
I also like these: www.decalgirl.com
Fry's has 4GB Sandisk Pro Duo's for $45 (awesome deal)
I would also recomend the Pelican Travel Case...its does a nice job protecting the PSP, its compact, and it can hold 6 UMDs, and two mem sticks...
Personally, i didn't care for Patapon that much, but the PSP has so many great games, i don't even know where to start...
s.mario @ Mar 21st 2008 11:16AM
Kingdom Hearts!!! I CANT BELIEVE THE SCREENS I'VE SEEN!!!
I can barely contain my fanboy'ism...

I just think it's funny that the PS2 did better than the 360.

Surprising that the PSP has edged the Wii and DS at this late date. Then again, Sony has given the Japanese market MUCH more love than USA and EU... Despite more units having been sold in the US than anywhere else (although that could change as the software sales stay in the toilet).
Safiel @ Mar 21st 2008 4:10PM
Yeah, it's sort of surprising to continue to see great hardware sales followed by very low software sales. Maybe, everyone in japan wants to use their psp for everything but gaming (or at least gaming the requires purchasing umd games). If you look at the software chart you'd see only 2 psp games on it (as opposed to 15 ds games).
Looking at the US release of psp games, there's not nearly as many coming out for the psp then other systems. Of course quantity does not equal quantity, but it would be nice if there were more games coming out.

Wonder what the attach rate is there, if the folk are just putting M33 on it or using it as a "media" device.
rosemarie @ Mar 23rd 2008 5:43PM

KaliKot @ Mar 28th 2008 1:14AM
