PS3 Firmware 2.20 now live

Whoa, what a surprise tonight huh? We've got some really dedicated readers here; in just a few seconds, our email inbox was flooded with tips about the new PS3 2.20 firmware going live. Indeed, it is. Go update your PS3 now.

In case you don't remember what was previously revealed about this new firmware, allow us to reiterate some of the highlights: DivX content can now exceed 2GB, and resume play enables PS3 to play a BD or DVD video at the point it was stopped, even if the disc had been removed. Most of all, it now adds Blu-ray Profile 2.0 support.

If you don't know what it is, you probably don't need it. It reduces a nasty little mpeg encoding artifact.

and I think under photos 2 new slideshow options appeared Photo Album & Photo Album 2 which are pretty cool maybe old.

wow, i was playing warhawk at 9pm and heard from a friend that 2.20 was live so i downloaded it at 940 pm cst and my system has locked up 3 times while playing warhawk. the only thing i've changed is my firmware to 2.20. and i'm PISSED!

Sorry. Uh... WHY are people so excited about this update? Yes, Profile 2.0 is great, except there are... two discs out right now that support it. I love a firmware update as much as the next guy, but compared to an update that adds something like divx support (good GOD that was nice), I don't seen the big deal here...

Resume Play is pretty nifty (although, I admit, not THIS nifty.)

If you've ever accidentally pressed Stop during DVD/BD playback, or mistakenly thought these fancy-schmancy players were already capable of "Resuming Play" (like, I dunno, every DVD player in existence) then you'll be as excited as me about this update. *party horn*

I will be downloading tomorrow when I get home from work. One of the biggest fixes I have been waiting on is an Internet browser update. Does anyone know if you can now at least view video on the official PS3 site? I have always found it funny that the PS3 browser couldn't even view its own official site.

You can now access certain items from the "settings" during remote play. Also all audio can be played via the PS3 during remote play including movies and games and not just music. Anybody find anything cool?

Bloody hell. I downloaded 2.20 and within 10 minutes my PS3 has crashed three times. I hope Sony fixes this soon. What a drag.

we both have 60gb models and the same thing is happening to them. for christmas i chipped in with my best friends wife and parents and we bought him a 40gb system and we were both playing warhawk with 2.20 and my system was locking and his wasn't, that's all the proof i really need. i'm pissed because it happened to me 10 minutes after SCEA went home for the night. just so they'd have something to do in the AM when they get there. but i'm going to chew some service rep ass tomorrow morning.

Update 2.20 breaks something in MP4 video playback. Files that played just fine previously either don't play at all or play in a stuttery, unwatchable state under 2.20.

On the other hand, some deinterlacing issues with 1080i MPEG2 content seem to have been corrected.

Has any had problems with WMV files from DVD? I am getting no audio/sound on playback. The movie I'm viewing is over an hour a 720p and the disc works on the Xbox 360.

All turd ass comments aside, I have an 60g and shit is working for me,WarHawk, Pain, all my music and videos are fine, and I noticed a faster browser load rate, two big ass problems 1. No F**king Flash upgrade. 2. No sequential playback. Avery nice update, but feels a little rushed.

I noticed the 2.17 update seemed to have made it so that online play sucked up a TON of bandwidth and made the internet either unusable or just not work. And I didn't think it was possible, but split screen warhawk shut my internet down (save for online play) and I have FiOS....

Hopes that it's fixed *crosses fingers*
