Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G sells out
Considering the success of the previous Monster Hunter games on PSP, we're not surprised by reports of the game's incredible performance in its recent Japanese launch. "Things haven't been this lively since Smash Bros X.," an employee of the Akihabara Yodobashi Camera, itself having served a line of over 200, told Famitsu. "No, actually it's probably livelier than that. At this rate, it's possible that we'll sell out by the evening." [Via IGN]
The game has been reportedly sold out everywhere -- in mere hours, in fact. To think that the game's launch was met with as much, if not more, excitement as the latest Wii Smash Bros. game is an incredible testament to the game's selling power. Undoubtedly, this will be a very strong week for PSP in Japan (again!).

These games always seem to get really bad reviews, but people in Japan are crazy about them....i don't get it?
I mean, i can understand getting nuts about Brawl, Mario Galaxy, a Final Fantasy game, or a Dragonquest release, but Monster Hunter?...

Haha I know, and every time I hear this sort of thing it makes me want to give it one more chance. I'm not falling for it again, I refuse!

Yeah, I don't understand either. I'm not saying I think MH games are bad, because I like them. I just find it amusing by how popular they are in Japan, and how everywhere else, people don't care nearly as much, if not at all.
Squenix should look at this game's success, and try to come up with their own MH type game. Who knows, maybe they could add...INFRASTRUCTURE!

Monster Hunter is good, giving it 6/10 is the reason I left Gamespot. I came to the realisation they were biased, plain and simple.
The best thing they could come up with was to complain that you often end up with things you don't need in your inventory when you plainly have the option to sell them or combine them to make useful products and items for weapons or alchemy.

I am in no way surprised by this news. Hopefully they will get this shipped to Canada and America as well, because i own both previous games, and i would have to call them the best games available for the PSP. If there were commercials, or some kind of advertising, I know the game could be close to this popular in North America.

The game sold 670k in its first day ... could easily beat even Brawls opening :D Amazing :D:D:D

hey s.mario
this game gets bad reviews because many reviewers (dunno exactly how many) dont take their time playing the game.
People expect something like/compare it to God of War's gameplay, but it isnt!
but there are some downfalls 2 the game.
-hard camera view/angles/controls?
-sofisticated gameplay mechanics(if your new)
-some control issues
but yet its still a top of the line game. has lots of replay value.
still packing a punch on my psp for more months 2 come! hehehe ^_^,
and yeh FF ftw!

Forget the reviews, try the game out yourself, at least just rent and see for yourself.
MH2 is one game that did not deserve the reveiws it got, especially after seeing the likes of Halo 2 get 9.4 despite the fact it was boring as hell.
Umbr @ Mar 28th 2008 3:47PM
Agreed
As far as I'm concerned, the only explanation for bad reviews would be the reviewers sucked at the game. I mean seriously this has got to be one of the few games that actually requires some amount of skill, and if you cant handle it, you should be driven to do better. if reviewers took the time to play the game, the review would be much better.
If you want a game thats easy as hell, go play pong or something.

It got around 75% on metacritic. That seems about right, really. I know it has a reasonable sized following of people that really dig it, but most everyone else finds it an average action rpg with a cumbersome camera and fun but repetitive gameplay (if you're trying to collect a certain material.)
I know way too many people that had a ton of fun with Halo 2 over xbox live to really attack its score. I didn't care for it, but I was way in the minority.
Maverick Saturn @ Mar 28th 2008 5:58PM
70 / 7 or 4/5 is about fine.
However, its no more repetitive then halo 2.

I hope games like this will push psp software sales, these past few months ive spent way too much on psp games, I really dont know how people can still claim the psp has no quality games on it. As for reviews i never check the score anyways, everyones taste is different so it doesnt mean that much.
This kind of success might push more developpers to make top quality games for the psp aswell so its definatly good news for psp owners wether they like the game or not.
I guess the person who bet that this game wouldnt make 300k sales in its first week in japan made a big mistake.
TWIMTBP @ Mar 29th 2008 5:15PM
Thats why I look at metacritic scores instead of any individual review.
the Alphons @ Mar 29th 2008 7:43AM
Very good MHP sales, but people really shouldn't use this as a defense for PSP software development... I mean just look at last week's weekly numbers. Monster Hunter is the exception, not the rule.
Mills and Boom @ Mar 29th 2008 10:12PM
I can't wait for this, it'll be my first Monster Hunter game too. Was going to get 2 but then I heard about this.
And isn't it coming to the Wii too? Looks like I've got 2 Monster Hunter games to look forward to!
Great Golem+ @ Mar 30th 2008 8:09AM
Another Monster Hunter??? And i'm still trying to get that #%&¤ Rathalos Ruby in MHF. 0_o
