PSP-3000 reference discovered on PlayStation website
On its online instruction manuals, Sony Computer Entertainment has a few images for use as labels. There's one for the original PSP-1000 series (click here), and another for the current PSP-2000 series (click here). However, curiously there's also a placeholder image for the logical next-step: the PSP-3000 series (click here). The availability of the PSP-3000 image on the PlayStation site shouldn't come as a signal that a redesign is impending -- it's clear that Sony plans on revising the hardware through its supposed ten year life cycle. However, it does seem to display a bit too much forethought from the web designers that created and uploaded this image. How long will it take before we hear rumblings of yet another PSP redesign?
[Thanks, GSK!]

It's too soon for this! Let the rumors begin.....
How long will it take before we hear rumblings of yet another PSP redesign?
Asnwer: A day from now.
Lars @ Mar 28th 2008 3:30PM
And how long until it actually comes to the US? Forever and a day from now.
misterdbarton @ Mar 28th 2008 11:18AM
A redesign before 2010 would be a big FU to those who bought the slim (mysel included) if you ask me.
ClarkyCat @ Mar 28th 2008 12:03PM
Just like the Slim was a big FU to those of us who put faith in the system in the first place? Well it wasn't really, I couldn't care less about Skype.
I wonder how exactly they can improve on the system without rendering the previous versions obsolete? Force feedback? Hello, 1 hour battery life! Maybe some of that debated phone functionality, but I can't really see it.
misterdbarton @ Mar 28th 2008 12:52PM
There was at least 2 years between the original and the slim. Hence why i said no 3000 series until 2010.
naxe @ Mar 28th 2008 11:21AM
maybe the redesign will include anti theft. finger print and retina scan.
Thoas @ Mar 28th 2008 11:25AM
Lol.....we can only hope.
thissceneisdead @ Mar 28th 2008 11:38AM
I bought a Slim, but I'm up for another one!
Dahk @ Mar 28th 2008 11:40AM
Think tomorrow's rumour will be 802.11n, 3G, and an automatically spawned Cheese Croissant every morning.
PSPHONECROISSANT ftepicw.
Dahk @ Mar 28th 2008 11:41AM
Oh... and for the obvious joke, after PSP-2000, skip 6 generations of PSPs, and on the 7th Generation, you geeeet:
Macha88 @ Mar 28th 2008 11:53AM
wouldn't that be the 8th generation...?
on the 7th generation though....
i dont get it.
psp 7000
with a 77,777 sales of ffVII stuff?

TJF588 @ Mar 31st 2008 3:49AM
You obviously don't know how to read a scanner...
Bad Mojo @ Mar 28th 2008 11:45AM
Of course this comes out a mere 48 hours after I bought my Daxter packaged PsP...
Back to the store it goes and wait a month or two to see what shakes out.
Phil S. @ Mar 28th 2008 11:56AM
Wow... I sold my original PSP so I could get the Slim. I wonder if the slim will last 2 years before they officially announce the 3k model?
Maybe this is a placeholder for the PSP Phone that we have heard rumor about?
Hashbrown_Hunter @ Mar 28th 2008 12:00PM
That's the only logical reason Sony would have for posting a 3000-series label.
toefer @ Mar 28th 2008 11:58AM
If the PSP-3000 fights back against CFW (by doing something to prevent Pandora's) then count me out.
Macha88 @ Mar 28th 2008 12:27PM
ditto
segadc @ Mar 28th 2008 12:05PM
I was planning on getting PSP Core pack next month. Hmm...wonder if I should wait a little longer...
Jacksons @ Mar 28th 2008 12:18PM
No way. Already? I'll believe that when I see it.
Joe @ Mar 28th 2008 12:23PM
Well I for one could care less if the new PSP comes out tomorrow or in five years. Just as long as Sony does what Apple does with the ipods. Each new version is better then the last but apple still supports the older one too.
So may be version 3000 could just have 4 gigs or so of built in memory. So you could use that instead of having to buy a memory card.
So that would be all that is different. I think new versions of the PSP like that would not get people mad if they already own a PSP.
Matt @ Mar 28th 2008 1:08PM
I don't think they're going to release yet another one, hell, a ne GoW bundle is coming out soon.
I imagine it'll be in the next 2-3 years, or it'll be a Sony product made to combat the iPhone. It'll probobly be some kind of PSP-compatible device, but not a PSP.
thissceneisdead @ Mar 28th 2008 12:32PM
I think also, it might be more like a Computer.
To where you can listen to music while browseing the internet, playing games, etc.
Or having a web page up and be able to do something not related to browsing without having to reconnect back to the internet.
If i made sense..
richard @ Mar 28th 2008 4:23PM
it'd be nice if you could run skype, along w/ other programs, like a break in the program, for it to ring through, maybe run the radio (or mp3s) while gaming, and an internal hard drive would be nice, but still have the pro-duo so you could "upgrade" your space.... I wouldn't mind it if they made it water resident as well..... keep all the current features (skype, rss, internet radio umd, video output, etc....) as well, and heck I wouldn't care if they had the thing brick if you thought about hacking it, heck I'd even buy one if it came out the day after I buy the GoW bundle (btw I'll be selling a copy of GoW, and suoerbad in may if anyones interested)

if it doesn't have a second thumbstick, don't bother.
Cool P @ Mar 28th 2008 12:48PM
you guys are reading way too much into this.
it's just a placeholder so that the designers can make a webpage that will work with multiple systems. it was probably just for some comps and mock ups to send around for approval.
and at the pace sony moves we won't see another version for another 3 or 4 years...even if they said one will be out in a year it would get delayed a few years. we all know it.
AruWolf @ Mar 29th 2008 8:21PM
This is gotta be a joke right?
I only got my slim this morning :(
Alien @ Mar 28th 2008 2:01PM
Yay ... Im buying it :D Wait ... where is it ? I want my redesign allready :P
Semi @ Mar 28th 2008 2:04PM
if it doesnt have minimum 20GigHDD... its a waste!
tom.b @ Mar 28th 2008 4:16PM
Hard drive? I hope not.
8/16/32GB flash memory please Sony.
ArmorForVictor @ Mar 28th 2008 4:12PM
glad i haven't bought a slim yet then :)
bryansurvive @ Mar 28th 2008 4:28PM
Cool, I didnt get a slim. If this is worth it ill get it cus my 1000 model and is still healthy.
edge @ Mar 29th 2008 12:06AM
I'd go for 802.11n (which means this probably won't become a reality until early 2009 when 802.11n is finalized). But I'd also like it if they had dual memory stick ports (so you can use two seamlessly, including copying data between them) or built-in memory of some type (at least 8 GB).
Short of overhauling the system entirely (keeping UMD, but upgrading the memory, processor and display significantly), that's all I can think of as far as upgrades.
bigboy88 @ Mar 29th 2008 4:43AM
PSP Fanboy already said this. Hackers found this while working on 3.80 M33.
Yadamon @ Mar 29th 2008 6:18AM
or maybe it'd have dual screen with one being a touch screen.. oh, and a motion sensing capabilities built-in lol.
I don't know, but improvements on batteries would be nice.
MetalKingSlime @ Mar 30th 2008 1:31AM
sheesh, already? who knows when this thing would be released. oh well i don't have a psp but i would like the new silver one. w/e
Jordan @ Mar 30th 2008 10:44AM
Call me crazy, but couldn't this just be a mere typo that someone put on the site and forgot to delete? I mean, it doesn't necessarily mean a 3000-Series, it might have meant to be the 2000-series, but someone misheard and put a 3 instead of a 2. People seem to jump to conclusions very quickly.
TJF588 @ Mar 31st 2008 3:50AM
This news... makes me wonder if getting a PSP-2001 would be worth it...
digiboi @ Mar 31st 2008 1:33PM

Lilinka @ Mar 31st 2008 2:02PM
Just as an update, the link now produces a 404, my guess is some eager web designer jumped the gun with a mockup, it's a little too early for the PSP-3000 unless it's that fabled PSP Phone.
youngcitya @ Apr 1st 2008 4:41AM
