MGS1 on PSN could happen if Japanese interest is high enough

It makes so much sense for Konami to build hype (as if it needs any more) for Metal Gear Solid 4 by releasing Metal Gear Solid for the PS1 onto the PSN Store. So far, however, it's only confirmed for the Japanese market with no word on a European or American release. This is nothing new - Japan has been receiving large numbers of PS1 games twice a month since the store opened. (The last PS1 game the EU store saw was Reel Fishing. Oh dear.)

There is still hope, however. Ryan Payton, on the latest episode of the Kojima Productions Report podcast, stated that they will be gauging the response in Japan and seeing how many people download it. If interest in high then it could be released elsewhere. Considering we're putting our hopes in a nation who hates digital distribution, chances are you may want to just grab a copy of the Metal Gear Solid Essential Collection. Just in case.

The impression I get from this is that you have to pay some sort of lump sum to get something onto PSN. Otherwise why would they hold back?

really, f Japan. The US and Europe are the largest gaming regions and fastest growing. How about if WE want it, they will put it out?

Yeah, but the Metal Gear Solid appeal is much greater in Japan.

I mean, they're already sold out on the MGS4 PS3 bundle even though it wasn't even released yet... In the US, we still haven't sold out on preorders for the actual game.

I'd re-download it just b/c I don't own the first one (except as the import only, MGS Integral). Integral requires a modded ps2...

This doesn't make any sense to me at all. How can a business decide weather or not to release a product in another region based on the tastes of a completely different demographic?

I think that Konami is hesitant in releasing it on american PSN is because they recently released the MGSE exclusively in the US and didn't want sells of MGSE to get ; I believe Japan had a similar deal with bonus a year? before but was an excslusive of some sort.

I have the essential collection but I would still download MGS, I just love the game and it'd be sweet to have it on my psp.

completely different games. I really need to see something spectacular out of gtaIV to bring it out of "take from ex-roomate when he is done with it" territory for me. GTA has been stale since San Andreas and I just don't see the new one giving me something really new.

Gears of War 2? lol It will be fine but once again its a completely different game and its only on the other system, the one that barely handles 24 people in one online room without serious laaaaaag! :P

Well if it helps I brought the game off my Japan Acct.. Mind you that I can play the damn game b/c I can understand a damn thing.. There are alot games that are on the Japan store that I like.. I brought R types too cause thats more simple and easy to play without instructions.. But for Metal Gear you need to listen to what their saying.. I really dont get what is the big deal on putting the game up in other regions.. What does that cost Sony anyways?
