DualShock 3 coming next week, compatability list revealed
America will be able to get its hands on Sony's DualShock 3 next week. A new post on the PlayStation.blog reveals which US titles are rumble-ready. It's been a long time coming for rumble fans -- let's just all forget how Sony touted rumble as a "last generation" feature.Future titles will feature a DualShock icon (featured, right) if they are compatible with the new peripheral. That's rather unnecessary, in our book. Why? Because we expect every game from this point forth to rumble when played on the PS3. That's the way it was always meant to be.

Great to hear. My import (from the play-asia 20% discount sale) should be here end of this week. But it is good to know that everyone will be able to enjoy rumble.
johnny @ Apr 2nd 2008 10:26AM
I still dont see why its important to some people. The people who thought ps3 sucked because of lack of it is ridiculous. It is ok to have but it didnt make the system any less enjoyable.
Christian @ Apr 2nd 2008 10:41AM
I agree, johnny. I still had a blast playing all my games, but rumble is very nice. I only imported mine because it was cheaper than if I bought it in stores (it was $54 including shipping, as opposed to $55+tax)
dan @ Apr 2nd 2008 11:45AM
I don't see the excitement in the rumble either, I imported as well, and i hardly ever use the DS3 controller anyway, I just grew used to the SIXAXXIS... Sure rumble is cool, but im not throwing a hissy fit for the 18 months we went without it
Dahk @ Apr 2nd 2008 11:52AM
One of the things that it's definitely useful for is the upcoming GT5: Prologue. It was quite difficult to gauge how your car is actually handling without the rumble, cuz everyone got so used to it in GT4.
That being said, I'd probably be playing with the wheels, but still, it's damn important for that =P.
Kinda sucks though, because i have 4 SIXAXIS's... and don't know what to really do with them once I get one or two dualshocks.
... and the logo is pretty stupid. lol just another thing to slap on the back of a game cover to make it look more hideous and irrelevent -_-.
RazLeboL @ Apr 2nd 2008 11:59AM
I imported one as soon as they released it in Japan. I love my rumble and playing PS2 games that supported it with the sixaxxis was a letdown. I had to play MSG2 without it. :(
Popfrogs @ Apr 2nd 2008 2:02PM
@Dahk: Well one thing I can see it maybe being necessary for (besides GT5:P) is MGS4. Kojima has always done crazy and interesting things with the controllers.
Nathanical @ Apr 2nd 2008 5:59PM
@popfrogs.
yeh, i heard rumble absence blocks psycho mantis' ability to use telekinesis(sp?)!!!!
invaderekim @ Apr 15th 2008 1:36PM
I bought a white ds3 from playasia and I don't know if it is compatable with the systems in United States? Will my white DS3 work? I think its a japan version
Johnny Kielbasa @ Apr 3rd 2008 9:16PM
I appreciated rumble when playing metal gear. Usually I had it off. Still, I'd rather have rumble than a Sixaxis. At least I haven't found that ideal game for its use.
_sean_ @ Apr 2nd 2008 10:52AM
I got mine 3 months ago for $45.
TOTALLY worth it. Makes all the difference in GT5: Prologue.
FrankTheCrank @ Apr 2nd 2008 12:06PM
Not only that game, but a slew of others.
I've been enjoying my sating silver Dual Shock three for about 4 weeks now. It's great. There are a bunch of games that already support teh rumblz. I was actually enjoying Stuntman Ignition last night via teh rumblz. DMC4 is good...and a bunch of others.
baby sea tuna @ Apr 2nd 2008 1:03PM
While I still think it sucks that this costs almost as much as a game, I'll be picking one up to use as my primary controller (SIXAXIS FTL). I can only assume that something that I actually want to play is coming out eventually...
Lee Richards @ Apr 2nd 2008 11:10AM
So is it compatible with GT5? I didn't see that listed on the original blog posting.
_sean_ @ Apr 2nd 2008 11:24AM
I'd imagine it's compatible.
I have the Japanese GT5 though.
まつが大きらいですよ
Phizzy @ Apr 2nd 2008 12:35PM
There are rumble options in the EU version of GT5 Prologue, and I imagine they'll leave them in for the Yank release, so yes.
Phizzy @ Apr 2nd 2008 12:41PM
I don't suppose hating to wait matters if you can understand Japanese. Or did you just cuntpaste that from somewhere?

_sean_ @ Apr 2nd 2008 1:04PM
I'm in Japanese II at the uni.
I'm actually minoring in it, both for games, and because I want to work there! ;)
SimplePanda @ Apr 2nd 2008 11:12AM
This list really isn't complete I think - Dark Sector, for example, supports the DualShock3 on PS3 (so says my PS3, my copy of Dark Sector and my imported DualShock3).
Also, notably absent from this list is Call of Duty 4! Come on Infinity Ward, get with the "so last gen"!
tingawinga3 @ Apr 2nd 2008 11:30AM
What about europe when does ti hit europe!!!!!!!!
James @ Apr 2nd 2008 11:47AM
Would have bothered if I didn't buy my console with 2 controllers already -- I have no use for more. As it is, I'm just mildly pissed at Sony for this glaring oversight in the original product.
Wulf @ Apr 2nd 2008 11:51AM
I have a fairly extensive comparitive review of the SADS3 vs. the SIXAXIS here:
http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=0&t=770472
motorer @ Apr 2nd 2008 3:49PM
you keep calling the old controller a "SADS2". there's no such thing as a "sixaxis dual shock 2"
Daniel @ Apr 2nd 2008 12:02PM
I just want the DS3 for the weight addition. The SixaxiS is creepy-light.
Daniel @ Apr 2nd 2008 12:18PM
too bad there is no hot shots golf support yet.
DirtnSky @ Apr 2nd 2008 1:21PM
Well, Sony got that statement right in regards to the tech that was placed into this "new" controller. It's the same one they used in their older versions!
Imagine if, say, your playing GT and take a hard turn and run off the track a bit. Than suddenly- You feel that Side of you controller shake!
While in a FPS, some jerk shoots a RPG from behind at you, but misses and it flies by your left side and you not only hear the passing in surround. You feel the left side of the controller rumble its passing! Then you whip around and fill the fool with lead and enjoy the shaking on the right side as your weapon empties out!
Imagine a FPS style adventure where your in a room trying to feel the walls for a clue and so you move against it and Feel the subtle changes in textures thru your controller. Thrill in the parry and strike on a beasts head thudding thru the controller on the right or left side as well if you bash it with your shield first!
Be amazed in a WWII fighter taking hits on the left side of the plane and feel the shuddering on it as your engine shakes and finally dies! Feel the distinct differences btw the damaged machine guns on that side as you're firing afterward!
Just think about how THIS GEN it would of been had sony even gave a damn about this rather then simply taking an OLD design- slapping new logos on it- and charging you extra for the "joy" of having the SAME STUPID JUNK right in your palms AGAIN!!!!
IanC @ Apr 2nd 2008 1:50PM
Hmmm. Should of had rumble FROM THE START. Stupid Sony and stupid Sony fans sticking up for them on this issue.
Popfrogs @ Apr 2nd 2008 2:03PM
Yeah there was this little lawsuit from Immersion (Microsoft sponsored) that kinda prevented that.
JKPierce @ Apr 2nd 2008 3:47PM
And now it has the option. I thought you liked options, with the hundred dollar wi-fi and hard drives.
7egend @ Apr 2nd 2008 2:50PM
Wells ince the DS3 controller is out, the real question is when can we expect the DS3 and PS3 120GB package to come out. Cause I am positive that Sony was waiting to releases this controller before they started releasing bundle packages so you would buy the controller for your original PS3 and then have to turn around and buy the new system with the same controller so they are making extra $$$.
I have got some serious cash saved up for the 120GB PS3 and I don't know if I can't wait much more :(
I don't know how many more times I can play through KH1 & 2 on the PS2.
Ripcord83 @ Apr 2nd 2008 3:11PM
You know it would be cheaper to get a HDD from the store.
You can even get bigger then 120gb for cheap nowadays.
LoCuSt @ Apr 2nd 2008 6:09PM
I blame Activision for fucking it up with CoD4. Screw you activision! And yes Dark Sector works with it as well.Glad to see my two favorite psn games work with it; I have yet to try high velocity bowling or pain with it but I'm looking forward to trying them now.
Lilinka @ Apr 3rd 2008 4:07PM
Wheee... I have mine in my hands -now-. (And I didn't import)
ERS @ Apr 4th 2008 11:08PM
Picked up mine today at Gamestop. Trade in for a SIXAXIS is a measly 10 bucks...not even worth it.
