New King of Fighters XII scans show off 2D glory

Since April 1st is no more, we can resume our duty of bringing you news with a fair amount of confidence that what we see is some semblance of truth. Sometimes we get tricked, too, you know. Anyway, some new scans from Famitsu show off a couple screens of the upcoming King of Fighters XII and we've got to say -- it's looking very, very nice. Athena seems to have gained a little weight, but perhaps it's our imagination. Everyone's gotta be really buff to be a king amongst fighters, right? Enjoy.

SF IV ain't got shit on King of Fighters!! I can't wait for this to drop. KOF XII and Blaze Blue are going to be sick! Good to see PS3fanboy spreading the KOF love. SNKP and KOF FTMFW!!

I can agree, athena seems a little more chubby, but still, pretty cute. Still, is she really stupid??? How long has it been since she has to had already graduate from high school? Or is she just cosplaying a High School Girl???

On the other hand, it's pretty rare seeing her in some normal clothes, year after year been a kinda redish original custom and this year (or iteration) we only get a plain school uniform. I don't complain, but athena was the most original character of all and seeing this, i'm losing my faith on her.

Good thing my best character is Terry, xD, this will be a must on my collection

Wont be coming out in the US on the PS3 will it - Sony hate 2D games because they dont show off the consoles power. (at least thats there excuse for stopping so many 2D games coming out on the Ps2 in its first few years)

Actually, being as the sprites are now high-res and the game looks like it uses a fair amount of next-gen sound and video- I'd say it has a decent chance of coming to the states. On the ps2 or ps3? Who knows.

Chubby Athena is HOT. She was waay too skinny in 98. And she did have the school uniform before too, its just she transformed to the other outfit. She is adorable with those curves.

Finally, a KOF game that can compete with other fighting games. Don't get me wrong, ALMOST every KOF game delivers a fun, great fighting experience but KOF games are always ignored because they lack in the graphic department. I mean, 10 years of the same old sprites? The KOF series might actually make a come back: it has changed it's numbering system from years to roman numerals (now they have more time to polish the games) and they have decided to upgrade graphics. Now, if only Sony would let SNKPlaymore bring it here to the U.S...

I'm not much for the fighting games these days like I used to be in my younger years... I do love this series and Terry is my favorite so I may just have to pick this up if it comes out here.
